Correction, they have 3
They claim 6 or 7 like UNC.

Shorts:

- Well yeah if Roach plays well, Duke can be a problem. Just pray for a ridiculous effort from Notae and Williams duking Duke Saturday. Jesus Christ.

- Got to root UNC tonight. I still don’t believe in Hubert but I definitely think UCLA can win the whole damn thing.

- I’ve always considered Elite 8 the baseline for a good season at UK. Sweet 16 is the last line before embarrassment. Lots of factors of course that could come into play, but thats where I’ve always stood. Cats standing at Disaster level.

- Bare minimum you need 3 shooters on the floor at all time - not 2.5, 3 and preferably 4. Cal needs to get with it and not sacrifice toughness and athleticism in the process. We had one tough guy on the team - two counting Ware- and usually played a shooter short.

- I don’t know how great of coach Muss is, although definitely pretty good, but he has intangibles out the ***. His enthusiasm and personality makes him a great head of a big program. Plus he’s hungry. I miss seeing some hunger from my coach.

- Of all the ******** we’re dealing with, the fact I have to compromise my morals and values in rooting interest right now is in the Top 10 of what’s pissing me off.

- I tend to be pretty distracted in March so once UK gets knocked out, I always try to take my wife out as a way of saying “sorry you had to deal with my crazyass the last month.” Well first time I did it about a year and a half into our courtship, she burst out in tears mid-dinner at Scotti’s after realizing I was not in fact proposing that night. “You told me to dress up and get my nails done!” Fun night. No good deed and whatnot.

- This dad thing has made a complete sap. That Google commercial with the deaf grandparents almost got me (again) last night. I’m turning into Dick Vermeil.

- Sampson’s incredible and may be the best coach at purely molding a team into his likeness despite talent level going right now. Always tough. Always disciplined. Always poised. As my friend Butch would say, “they shaved it and ate it last night.”

- Best college coaches I’ve ever seen in framework described above:

1. Pitino
2. Knight
3. Majerus
4. Stevens
5. K

- You can always feel that moment in the tournament usually 5 minutes out when things tighten up, there’s a lid on the basket and you can barely breathe and you hope your team nuts up. Funny thing is, with the truly great teams, you don’t see that moment. It may be a tight game but there’s no panic ever in the air.

1996
2012

^ Won every tournament game by 7 or more, and never had a moment I couldn’t breathe.

It was interesting seeing Duke get poised at the end of the game and Tech get all nervous. I rarely watch non-UK bball games to be honest. But I was just thinking to myself “well that’s the whole point at playing at a big program - the fact that so many of the games you play in are big throughout the season it kind of hardens you. Everyone’s Super Bowl!”. But then I started thinking how often we actually play like **** at the end of important games even though we have so much big game experience. I’m slowly turning into the guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall that starts having flashbacks of how ****** it actually was to date Sarah Marshall. He was just attracted to all the flash. Very sad feeling tbh

Poise certainly has much to do with it. These Duke dudes all have pedigree and are well-coached.

BUT it also comes down to having guys who can create their own shot- Roach, Moore, Griffin and Banchero. Then Williams is the kind of 5 we used to get.

I mean we were 1-7 from FTs in overtime with an 80% and 70% FT shooter.

I expect Arkansas to attack the paint and get Duke in foul trouble just like they did Chet last night. I love their tenacity and they don’t really give a damn that it’s Gonzaga, Duke, UNC etc.

Notae absolutely causes havoc, but I assume K will be teaching an extra effort to take charges today and tomorrow morning.

It really looks like Duke/UCLA and Kansas/Houston.

If Jay wins a third this year I will personally drive to Hillsborough Village and take a **** on Cal’s fancy new front porch.

I’d be embarrassed as a coach if my peer won three titles in the same span with far less talent. I’d be calling Jay up and asking “Please Jay. How do you do this? I need tips”.

Spaz was kicked out of the game
So let it be written, so let it be done. Henceforth, his name until proven otherwise.

- Was looking over Jay Wright's resume this morning and shew boy, think those pining for him after BCG are going to come out winners on that what if?

-
It wasn't always pretty but the Hogs kept attacking. Muss didn't clam up and scare the **** out of his guys by micromanaging. And he didn't yank a guy for being aggressive. Would much rather lose that way than constantly going out like b*tches.

- Think the general sentiment is anyone but a blue blood. Purdue or Houston would almost elicit a grin, knowing who they prevented hanging a banner.

- Probably best not to keep relitigating the St. Pete debacle unless you enjoy giving yourself heart palpitations. Best to take that memory out back Old Yeller style and never speak of it again is the play.

-I assume Muss is headed back to the NBA sooner than later, and he'd be a tough pull from the Hog's endless resources, but he's firmly on the radar.

-I'm almost of the belief let's get the worst, other than Duke/UNC, case scenario and really take this son of a ***** to the ground. UCLA, meh, they already hold the lead and that's who Cal was chasing plus he hates Cronin.

-I don't like losing Allen because I think if given time he would've matured and become a nice player over the next couple seasons. However, he got a chance this year. Even though it was mop up minutes he refused to go in a game. Think it's pretty fair to say he wasn't giving this season his full attention.

- If Cal has any read on the pulse it really comes down to Sharpe. Dressing the kid, putting him through warm ups, sitting him when we obviously needed his help. It's one thing if he's training at Craft but to be on the bench with no intention of ever playing. There's no lipstick that covers that **** up. Plus, it solidifies the biggest gripe and " most important night in UK history" stance.

-I understand if Oscar goes but man I want him back something fierce.

-Neck and upper back have been a wreck all week. Tens, stretching, biofreeze, ice, dry needling, sauna, chiro has me back to 80ish %. Back pain is just the worst. You can see how it gets to people. Can't be comfortable in any position and lying down makes it worse.

-week without twitter, I'm good with leaving it behind, but where do you nontweets get a solid stream of customized news?

- finally fish sambo night

-i guess it makes me old but I still love a good meme.

-Rogue on that gorilla test? Take it easy, buddy.

For as hardass as Pitino was, by gawd by March, his boys thought they could hit any shot.

Look we’ve had some awesome March moments from Cal, won some huge games. So don’t take this as a shot at him.

I just miss coming out and bombing Utah, Wake, etc.

I’ll send you my passwords for The New York Times, Washington Post and the Atlantic so you can give those a run before subscribing. Also would suggest the Huffington Post.

I've got WSJ and NYT as my only 2 scrips. Twitter is a cesspool but it giving you instant customizable news ticker is hard to replace.

Me and a guy from work were reminiscing about that 1996 ambush we put on Wake and Tim Duncan.

I just don’t get the feeling we go hard in practice. I have no clue what we do in practice, but just based on how we half *** our games, slowly weave around the court, NEVER pressure the ball on D, have no idea what a pick is, etc…I don’t think we’re really physically prepared for March.

Like my favorite Peacock coach said. “This? This was easy. Practice is hard”.

Our kids get in these games, Cal’s going psycho, and they have an advanced calculus sort of look on their faces. This is supposed to be fun! This is supposed to be what you trained for!

I don’t think we’ve trained for ****. Not like these other teams have. We got combines to go to, and ****. Dreams, and ****.

Quick Friday shorts:

~ Anyone ever met a Kaycee that wasn't a total smoke show head case? Worked with one this morning, mercy.

~ Jay Wright and Brad Stevens are tremendous in game coaches. The ending to Villanova/UNC that focuses on Jay during the last play is the smoothest effing thing I've ever seen.

~ I'm done trashing Cal. I've said my piece and made my feelings known. Have no power to move on from him by myself so I will just sit back and be a distant observer of UK basketball rather than hardcore fan.

~ The fact that ^ has to be my take is a ******** travesty.

My Friday five has been all Mastodon this morning and I've been more productive in two hours than all week combined.

Re: Sharpe playing at Top 5 Auburn: "I’m not just shoving him in so we can win another game or stay closer. I’m not going to do that.”

Re: UofL/Payne: "It's one game. Who cares?"

Re: SEC Tournament: Calipari not worried. "I said, let's go home. I'd like to be home by 8:30. I'd like to see my dogs and kiss my dogs."

Re: Losing to 15 seed St. Peter's: “Sad day, not just we lose a game, it’s that the season ended with this group and how much joy they brought to me and our staff.”

Stop caring, people. It hasn't been about you or Kentucky Basketball in years.
