I heard this morning that Ohio State and Villanova were 2 of the lowest tempo teams in college basketball. What happened to Villanova’s style that win them 2 titles?

It’s amazing watching basketball players routinely hitting 3-pointers in these games - many times without splendid offense to give them open looks. Just guys shooting and hitting shots. Like wtf

It helps when their coach doesn’t get in their head instructing them to drive non stop during practice and then act like a maniac with his hair on fire on the sidelines yelling non stop during games.

The issue is our shots are supposed to come on play design, only when Cal wants it.

What you saw when Wheeler and Washington were out was the ball was in shooters hands and they just played ball, which led to them shooting better and more.

You wanna know what mind-f*cks good shooters?

Insisting over-and-over that they look to drive first on the catch rather than shoot in rhythm. Or worse, look to force feed the post. It leads to a shooter second-guessing if they should just let it fly.

The only thing that makes it worse is course-correcting and publicly admonishing the shooter for not shooting enough.

Another thing that helps is running sets occasionally. That way a defender isn’t always standing there waiting for our guys to get to their spots out of the weave. We do nothing on offense - that’s why we are so easy to scout and are always grinding out 65 points on our leather asses once tournament season comes around. The players nut up under pressure, miss ft’s, throw bad passes as a result.

Wife just informed me that we’re going to a 90’s party at the skating rink today. That’s right, today. The party starts at 4. Nothing like skating with a bunch of dudes from the neighborhood dressed up like a bunch of **** in the mid afternoon. And I had the perfect excuse to get out of it. But Cal effed us.
The Clown would love to go roller skating.

Might even see if I can dig up my old Speed Skates. (The Clown could prolly still tear it up out there)

Takes me back to my youth; Tearing through the slow folks, backwards, getting the whistle and flashlight, with a stern warning.

Getting kicked out for smoking heaters in the bathroom, dumping a cup of bearing balls on the floor, making out by the arcade with Susan Williams.

Doron Lamb looks better and better as the Cal years go on.

Yes I’d agree with all of this, but when I say by design I’m being sarcastic because even in design the reality is he wants layups and rebounds.

His 2 designed plays are a down pick that all defenses read and beat our guys to the spot, or sticking Grady in a corner and running PnR action that way in which he wants action to the basket but if Grady’s guy helps he is there and open.

Those are his designs.

Amzingly watching St Peters you’d see Murray guarding up tight, as did UK, and then BOOM they ran back cuts which were wide open. Then after that worked they ran down pick action and amazingly skinny Ron Jeremy popped Murray for a dagger 3, just like he did us in a moment that mattered.

Just intelligent and situationally aware basketball.

Cal couldn’t dream of that type of action! Which is nothing but sad at this point.

All of the sudden I am becoming a huge Gonzaga fan because they may be the last real threat to take out Duke.

Watched Duke - MSU at a buddy’s house who is a huge MSU fan. It’s always amazing to me watch other teams play with their homer fans but with an objective eye. I bet I heard, “we’re done, it’s over” 20x during the game”. I’m like, “you’re down 5 with 14 to go…plenty of time”. Reminded me of me!

Also, Mich st fans aren’t all in on Izzo as you’d expect.

Great game, Duke made shots at end. My buddy and I agreed they are our #1 team to root against going forward.
