Flipping between this, the triple OT Xavier-Providence game, and WWIII erupting was um, stressful.
Which is part of why I think we would be better with 1 of Wheeler/TyTy playing PG than starting both.
What we lose from him isn’t worth it to me. Every team in the country will over play him and that opens the court too!
Just an impressive team.
Love how happy they were for Hopkins.
And my gawd Tschibwe is incredible. I may have witnessed some better Cats (Davis, Mash) but I can’t recall anyone more consistent.

I was a little too young to really appreciate Mash. Davis was phenomenal, but he doesn't really have the personality, and he's been made of glass during his pro career (how did he not get hurt in college - we got lucky). So John Wall was my de facto favorite. He made us cool again.
OSCAR is fixin to be my new favorite cat. He has it all. Personality, consistency, and now he wears a headband. I really think he can be a better version of Ben Wallace. Just a total fanboy for that guy.

Thinking of how good Oscar is at rebounding- some of the balls he got to last night seemed to be physically impossible- and trying to compare it to another player + skill we’ve seen like this.

A lot of Oscar’s offensive boards look easy. Like he’s just in the right place at the right time. And then you realize it’s because he’s so good at positioning himself based on where he thinks the ball is going to come off the rim. It’s pretty astounding.
A buddy of mine said the other day “Oscar is having a better season than AD”. My immediate reaction was GTFOH. The more I looked into it though, the more I think it’s closer than you’d think. My comment back to him was “if he can win a title, it will be hard to say Oscar’s season wasn’t better, but he’s gotta win a title or get damn close”.
AD’s “problem” was that everybody on the team was so freaking good he didn’t stand out as much, nor did we need him to just flat out dominate games. Especially offensively.
That one he got in the first half where he caught it like you catch an underhanded pop fly…it went right over the LSU player’s head and he didn’t see it because he was watching Oscar.
“Rebounding gravity” is right there for Jimmy Dykes to say 30 times a game and all he wants to talk about is fighting Oscar for 40 minutes.
And btw, if you are Brooks and every team is sending multiple bodies at Oscar on every shot and you give a single board in a game as a starting PF ===> pine time.
I cussed Brooks enough last night to even out the average for the lack of cussing in his good play since Kansas.

Late in the game, LSU misses shot, about 5 bodies go up for the rebound, 4 fall away like bowling pins and then you see Oscar right in the middle of the cluster, still standing and holding the ball with a vise grip --->
At that moment I told my son that Oscar may be the best rebounder I've ever seen. And the only reason I say "may" is several years of watching Moses Malone.

Oscar’s rebounding reminds me of this. Like he has notes on how all of his teammates shots bounce off the rim.
~ I don't know how many players were labeled dick fingers over the years. I know Nick Richards held that crown for two full seasons before becoming a pretty reliable big man in his Junior year. I've never seen a man grab the ball and mercilessly grip the life out of it like Oscar. It looks like he's trying to recreate Mash's iconic deflated ball picture every time he gets a rebound.
~ As Bill Self recently said, these grown men that will dominate CBB moving forward are our game changer. The moment I saw Oscar come out talking about Lion and Sheep while everyone else is memeing, I knew he was about to break it off in some fools. He literally got a rebound last night with a man of equal size/stature IN HIS JERSEY trying to hold him down. Huggins has to be kicking himself.
~ I cannot stress enough how important it is for Bryce Hopkins and Daimion Collins to continue to get spot minutes and shine. Will be very important pieces on our squad next year (barring some tomfoolery). I know they play out of necessity right now, but it's also just prudent.
~ Mintz and Grady have run their asses off for nearly 40 minutes in each of the last two games. If Tyty and Sahvir are > 90%, we really need to incorporate them some. Not asking for 32 minutes from either, but that's a lot of wear on two of our oldest players late in the year. Just some breathers would go a long way.
~ This team will thrive once the shackles of SEC play/officiating dissipate. Much like our best teams, this team just wants to flex it's muscles and run. The rock fights will certainly help when we have to play some junk teams early on, but the true tests (Duke, Purdue, Gonzaga, Arizona, Villanova, etc.) are all teams that play similar to the way we do, which I'll take my chances on.

Oscar is a modern day Moses Malone if Moses actually had played college ball. Soft spoken, head down worker. Moses was once spotted just practicing throwing the ball up against the glass and jumping up to catch it. When asked why he wasn't trying to score but just catch it he replied, "Can't score the ball if I don't get the ball." Oscar is of the same mentality. If he helps us get #9 and even stays next year, he's everybody's favorite Wildcat in the past 25 years. His popularity will rival Mashburn's.
Really happy Bryce got his moment last night. Cal and others really hyped the kid up in the preseason, and he's struggled with that until last night. He came up big when others shrank in the face of aggressive defense and physicality. I'm looking at you, Keion.
Kellen finally got more assertive in the 2nd half after bitching up in the 1st. He has to get his shot, and he has to take his shot. Passive isn't going to win in March/April. Scared money don't make money ATKOT.
Poor Dontiae got a shot, long 2, airballed, then sat on the bench the rest of the game. I think he's got to go elsewhere for his own good next year.

A “one more year” chant with Oscar at the charity stripe in our last home game may be warranted if he keeps playing like this

My current issue are the people who say “we need to stand up to Putin” without describing what it is they want us to do. This isn’t a non-nuclear Iraq in 1991. My red line to get into a thermonuclear war ain’t the Ukraine. Putin basically said don’t f around with Ukraine re NATO and we called his bluff. He attacked and now we have a couple of options.
1) *****, moan and impose sanctions
2) Attack and risk billions of deaths
And for those who are saying, “what about Taiwan?” Well, you wanted cheap products from China for the last 30 years so Taiwan may have been the price you pay for that.
I don’t disagree but this has a lot more to do than just NATO expansion.
The Russians don’t like they have to pay the Ukrainians two billion dollars a year to lease one of only two pipelines they have to pump natural grass to Europe.
