-what is needed is a reckoning, but that ain't gonna happen.

-the best we can hope for is some raised self awareness, and an understanding that it's healthy* to question experts/govt even(especially) if they're on your team.

*as opposed to labeling everyone who doesn't fall in lockstep w/ govt/big tech et al as a qook, not holding my breath.

I can't get my 13 year old daughter to take her mask off. She's at the age where she is self-conscious about her appearance and so she uses it as almost a security blanket.

I couldn’t imagine being a high school junior or senior and missing most of if not all of my extra curricular stuff.

Probably wouldn’t have been too great of a student without those

Come to FL. It’s just not a topic down here at all. Few wear masks, no judgement. Most don’t, no judgement. Wife had a positive test (ended up being a false positive) the day we went in for birth of #2. I went in with her and never got tested.

No ****. 2/3rds of my 3 year old's life has been covid. My daughter's life has also sucked. I'm mad, too.

Athletic events cancelled while traveling on the bus, awards banquets, class trips, renting shore house, homecoming… gone.

And there it is. Have to be a right wing nut job to want schools open and end (cloth)masks, which everyone has said don't do a f*cking thing and are literally ONLY about to be required in schools.

Because it doesn't affect you, who cares? We're all aware the people the people that could WFH and bake bread all day did just fine in the pandemic. Too bad you're not exposed to more of the people, parents, who are really struggling.

Discovered O'ROurke in the 80's when he wrote an article for Rolling Stone, "Attack of the Euroweenies". If that's not going to grab your attention.

Read an article he wrote about driving a new Ferrari across country, for Car and Driver or some other car magazine. Fun read but can get tiring with subreferences and elongated adjectives to simply describe something.

Growing up in New England, hard to beat high school hockey, most rivalry games sold out, as rinks held 1500 at most. Fans of both teams on same side of the ice usually, which led to a couple of alcohol infused, good old, high school brawls where no one really got hurt. Good times.

There's nothing wrong with my 13 y/o daughter but thanks for the concern.

PJ O'Rourke was a hero to young conservatives in the 80's/early 90's. He was a right-wing Hunter S. Thompson who enjoyed taking drugs but also talking about supply-side economics. But, after awhile that schtick got old.
