I’m 66 years old. Probably the oldest person in here. I kind of get a laugh from hearing those who are 40-50ish etc talk about how they don’t want to live past such and such an age or whatever.
I identified with whomever it was that said they never think like an old person, no matter how the body tries to be a jerk and mess with that.
I had my children relatively later in life. They are still in their 20s and early 30s. I have grandchildren that are 6, 4, and 8 months. I certainly don’t want to be a burden on my children or be hanging around with dementia or such, but barring that, I want to live as long as possible to see my grandchildren grow, and marry and even have children of their own. I want to be around as long as possible to support my children.
I hope that I am fortunate enough to have good health going forward and when the end does come, I will be ready to accept it with Grace, but damn, I can’t fathom how anyone can decide that this precious life we have isn’t worth living past a certain age.

Very close to getting shot earlier. Visiting NC while they are remodeling our office in DC and working via Zoom...was at a bar with some friends, a group of folks got kicked out and one of them started firing indiscriminately.

My grandfather dropped dead at 68 of a massive heart attack while running his bird dogs on his farm -- his absolute favorite thing to do. They found him with his dog licking his face. He'd been retired for a while and was as physically active as men far younger to the end.

I'm pushing 59, and if I could get 15 more perfectly healthy years, and then, just drop the **** dead, with no lingering illness, I'd say, "Where do I sign?"
Ya gotta go sometime, and who wants to hang around 8 decades, the last 5 to 10 years with something always hurting? Arthritis, giant prostate, hair falling out, constantly having "procedures", getting poked and prodded, etc.
**** that, I'd rather go out like a boss. If I go terminal, I'm not waiting around for that crap. Big blowout weekend, and then, drive off a damn bridge (probably put one in my temple on the way down, just to be on the safe side, so I don't miraculously survive and end up in a wheelchair.) I'm not scared of death, at ALL, and I'll be damned if I'm going to piss away a crap ton of money on chemo etc. just to "hang on" for another year or so. The thought of wasting that money irks me WAY more than kicking.
Sign me up right now.
* In my experience, divorce / custody law isn't that much worse than any other area of law once you learn how to set boundaries with people and realize that you are there to solve their legal problems, not their lives. The absolute worst thing about the gig is when you've got a client that you really like and who is being taken advantage of by the other party but who does not have the financial resources to pay you. That sucks because you want so bad to help the person but you can't work for free, either. (I'll beat anyone who mentions pro bono to death with a wiffle bat -- most people have absolutely no idea how many pro bono hours even the most heartless, blood-sucking attorney in the world does in a given year.)
Family law work can be a solid living once you get things rolling but it sure as hell is not passive income.
The child neglect and abuse cases are what eat at me. (Again, respect knucks krazy.)
I work for myself and have since 2015 so I take the position that if I don't like what I'm doing for too long, then I need to fire myself as a manager and take a new approach. It has been an interesting and (largely) enjoyable ride. Stressful as f*** though and running a business in addition to practicing a highly stressful and complicated career is sure as hell not for everyone. There have been many days I've lusted to work for a law firm but I would never actually do it.
* Last "work" (HA!) day without a recent Cayts game to breakdown until at least March. Giddy up.
The older I get its rather amazing to me how people age at different rates. I’ll see a person at work who’s bald with a gray-ish beard talking about his middle school kid and then I’ll find out he’s 36 and I’m like WTF. August always posting on here about taking his granddaughter to school and him widling wood in his rocking chair before mowing the lawn and he’s in his mid 40s. ThroughBlue posting about government conspiracies and right wing crap at 29 years old (how awful is he going to be at 50? Jesus). Rogue posting like a 16 year old and bragging about having sex with people his own age because he’s so much more immature he literally thought she was 15 years older. Quite a different journey we all take in this crazy life.

In regards to UK basketball, I used to be able to name every player, walk on, assistant coach, dude that drove the bus, where they were from, stats, recruits, etc. These days I've got no clue on anything regarding the basketball team other than they play at Rupp Arena. Insiders are telling me that they look like they'll be pretty good this season and may have some dudes who can shoot.

Speaking of this, my wife is a teacher at a… rough.. school. Had to make a report for possible abuse yesterday.
Doesn’t matter how many times she’s had to do it, I can see how awful it is what she’s had to see and/or do.

- Yesterday was rough, for reasons I've shared on social media. Didn't also expect the day to involve dealing with a schizophrenic stranger leaving ominous messages on my voicemail and FB account, too. Thankfully nothing for the past 24 hours, but it made an already difficult day that much worse.
- Just bought a ticket to tonight's local HS football tilt via the app that most schools are using for ticket sales. Beats standing in line for 15-30 minutes while kids try to scrounge up the $3 their parents should have given them before being dropped off at the gate. Unreasonably excited about crisp early-fall air, the smell of popcorn, the sounds of a marching band, and a community coming together to watch the local team take on the big-city boys.
- When Lane Stadium is full and rocking, Virginia Tech's entrance to "Enter Sandman" is top-five in CFB, easily. Not sure why Justin Fuente hasn't quite worked out there, but that may be a situation where the fit may just not be right. Both would probably benefit from a change of scenery if they don't hit eight wins this season.
- I don't mind P.J. Fleck, but I hate all those little slogans/catchphrases that Minnesotasucka football has. He's a character, and college sports needs more characters.
- Neyland Stadium had a lot of empty seats last night. I realize it's a pandemic and the opponent was Bowling Green, but still, thought there'd be a bigger turnout for the first game of a new era. Wait-and-see, atkot.
- How did our parents watch "M*A*S*H" regularly? Some funny episodes, but it's so depressing/preachy. Even the theme song is titled "Suicide is Painless". Good grief.

Suicide is painless…in the movie the dentist, who they called Painless-and who had a massive member, was depressed when he came to the conclusion that don juanism was really just a sign of latent homosexuality. So he wanted to kill himself. But Hawkeye was able to talk a nurse into sleeping with him to prove he wasn’t really gay, and saved his life…bet that would translate well into today.

First 3 years, Trapper and Henry funny...Alda started writing more and became more serious, political, less funny, humor bits were not of the year 1-3 variety but jokes you and I could write. People liked MASH like the music group they liked that puts out mediocre records long after their major hit and still thought those follow up records were great when they were not.

- Nice turnaround game overall for the team last night. They won big, and I can proudly say no bean balls this time. Then again I didn’t pitch, so…yeah.
- On that note, you know you messed up when a team mom emails you offering to have her husband, who isn’t even on the coaching staff, pitch. That said, we found our guy, who is on the staff, last night. Was holding out on us.
- Friend on the football staff got CF and CE pre-game field passes for tomorrow. CE won’t really know or care about what’s going on yet, but CF already can barely contain his excitement. Another one of those awesome dad moments, reminding me of sitting in our old end zone bleacher seat season tickets with my dad around the same age. My love of UK Football was instilled early, and the torch is being passed.
- Hoping to see a lot of you at the Schemstravaganza tomorrow. I know it’s early and a bad OOC game, but it’s the first real one in almost two years. No excuses.
- This time of year especially, it’s still surreal to me to drive by the World Famous, which I do often on the way to work, and see it closed for good. Just can’t even fathom a fall semester/football season starting without it. UK students today have no idea what they missed.
- I seem to be in the minority of really enjoying Outer Banks’ second season. Cocaine Cowboys was also decent, though nothing that blew your hair back once you’ve seen enough of those types of docs. Thus concludes my months-too-late Netflix wrap up.
- Truth is, I watch almost no TV other than sports anymore. I don’t know how people find time for all these movies and prestige shows honestly. So, sorry I don’t have any decent recs, Geese. You can easily find ROTY streaming, though.
- Lass woke up to find hair in the kitchen trash can. Turns out CE got hold of some scissors and cut a decent amount of hair off because something was caught in it. I laughed. Lass did not.
- We got hit by the armyworm invasion. The damage isn’t too bad yet and the yard is being sprayed today, so hopefully the repair won’t be too extensive. Still a pain.
- With a stacked defense and a revamped, highly powered offense, Stoops & Co. usher in another season for the University of Kentucky Football Wildcats on September 4th, 2021, a day that will go down in history as the beginning of a new, unprecedented era, reaching heights never before seen by the program, its fans, or the nation.
