Orrrr, you get offered $150mil for three years and $10mil consulting/yr after you retire...and you still are trying to work out being a Laker.

Puts a "small" market team paying more in luxury tax than any team in any sport ever.

I’m no cap expert but can the Lakers even fit that type of contract within salary cap rules? They essentially already have 3 max players and usually when teams have that, the rest of the roster is mid level exception guys and minimum guys? Don’t think any team has ever had 4 max guys bc math just doesn’t work.

Suns offered that...he'd have to take substantially less to join the Lakers, like the mid-level excpetion. But is still somewhat considering it.

Ever get on a bus headed to an event, half drunk, and to your surprise see some old buddies walk on you've not seen in a while?

I did.

What a pleasure to see my old pals Anth and AP.com and get to catch up in person this weekend.

-I thought the Olympics have been alright. No fans stinks but at least they got the games in. I've done a pretty good job tuning out the other nonsense.

-Hell UK runners went 1-2 last night. We've got several medals so far.

-After 15 years of being invited I finally made the Bourbon/Cigars event and it was a hoot. WWTH and Huber in their elements. Drunk coaches. Great weather for the event. Ap.com and I declined the post party invite though. Did get to sample a few dusty bottles. Some 60s Dant, an old Bacardi, 70's Beam, pre fire Fitz.

-S2 of Lasso started out great. Wonder how long it can keep this level up because it's outstanding right now.

-SAE's brother showing him how to properly wear a white jacket. Looked sharp.

-Bunch of people used to bury booze in the infield at Churchill during the car show and then dig it up 8 months later at Derby.

-I'm at the age where the Lalapalooza crowd looks MISERABLE.

-Shout out to the CDC/Media for scaring the f*ck out of everyone even though this is the 4th time we've been through the same ****. Just a remind the vax works(stolen from twitter), "Of the 164 million vaccinated Americans, less than 0.1% have been infected with the coronavirus, and 0.001% have died, according to data from the CDC." Prior infection is even better but not something you should be striving for.

Hey, let's tell a bunch of skeptical people the damn thing doesn't work as a plan to get them to take it. Great plan.

* If there is one area of life where the lass and I are completely different, it's in the level of stress. On a scale of 1-10, I typically operate around a 2, and that's only when I'm up against a tight deadline. She hovers around a 93 or so once she calms down.

* Soccerheads --> who's more disappointing at the sport -- England or Mexico?

* Bojangles, lol.

Can't even imagine what the NIL would have done for Richie Farmer's career. In fact, that should be it's own KSR parody article. Top hypothetical sponsors for former athletes. (you're welcome to steal this idea, mags)

* Hitler used the '36 Olympics specifically to promote white supremacy. The Russians and Americans boycotted each other's respective Olympics in the midst of the Cold War. Palestinian terrorists used the '72 Olympics to murder Israeli hostages. Countries are routinely banned from participation due to the actions of their government.

I mean, if you wanna watch every couple of years, ya better get used to a little background noise. Feel awfully sorry for those of you who can't tune it out.

* If there is one small silver lining at the thought of more lockdowns/government mandated closures, it's that I'm fairly certain we would see more all out riots. That was appointment viewing last summer. Maybe just try it in a couple cities to see what happens, and give us something to watch on tv.

* During the medal ceremony, athletes are handed their medals on a plate as opposed to having it hung around their neck, in order to promote social distancing. Lol that COVID can even possibly spread with these strict protocols in place. BELIEVE IN SCIENCE.

* Grandpa hated Mexicans, too. So he would have loved last night's futbol match as well. Go U-S-A!

* drxman is the type of guy who routinely uses the term "tig ole bitties."

* Always thought it was stupid to say athletes "have all the money they'll ever need," or anything along those lines. I mean Chris Paul would have to walk away from like $100 million to sign with the Lakers instead of the Suns, if I'm reading that correctly. There's like 10 people on earth who have that kind of "F You Money,", and Chris Paul isn't one.

* drxman is the type of guy who routinely uses the term "f*** you money."

If your top priority as an individual or team is something other than winning the dang tournament you’re in, well it’s going to be tough to win the thing. It’s great that these folks want their voices heard, their causes addressed, and their influence acknowledged. That’s all fine. But when that takes top priority, hope you like third place or worse.

Meanwhile, there are athletes from other countries whose number one top priority is to beat the Americans’ ***. And that is happening to some degree.

Just a theory based on a few observations. Could be wrong.

The Bourbon and Cigars event raised $1.1M Saturday night for UK Children's Hospital.

Huge.

Won't ever forget my buddy Steve Wilson for inviting me to the first event years ago when Coach Brooks, Lori "Wilson's wife", and some others first started it. Drunk Brooks hits the podium, jar of moonshine straight from Pikeville in hand to address the small crowd of bourbon soaked boosters and starts his speech by saying, "There's no press here right? If so, I love you motha f**kas!"

From that night on, I was hooked, and the rest is history.

Stoops & Staff have only made the event better than what it was, and the money raised helping local kids in need is just the cherry on top.

Anth, you're coming to the after party next year. No excuses. But Miami will be 😎

Olympics Randoms:
  • Ratings are way down. But isn't that because people just watch TV differently now (and less)? It used to be you'd get on the cable and flip channels. When's the last time you did that? And it's reduced my skill at even finding the Olympics. I know it's on NBC, but is it covered elsewhere too? I don't even care to look, frankly.
  • The schedule isn't really in front of me. I wanted to watch the men's 100M. So I looked it up Saturday night to find that it was in about 8 hours. Oh well.
  • The woke crap falls in the same category as the sob story crap. I do not care about it and it takes time and coverage away from the actual events. But NBC knows that the sob stories and non-sports related coverage drive ratings. Especially among women. I remember reading years ago that NBC figured out that men will watch almost anything when it comes to the Olympics, so they need to tweak the coverage to appeal to women to improve ratings.
  • Tape delay is so much worse in the world of Twitter, text, internet, etc.
  • The Olympics should extend to 3 weeks or maybe even a month. Too much stuff to cram in over the course of two weeks. I would assume they could make more off TV rights if they did that as well.

- I'm at the age where ANY outdoor music festival looks terrible.

- Always cool to see the newest household names coming out of a Games. I'm guessing this time around it will be Syd (who was already a household name in Kentucky and in track circles, but not necessarily nationwide), and Dressel. The Biles stuff probably overshadows Suni Lee a bit, but she'll still make some bank. Not entirely sure why Katie Ledecky hasn't been used more by advertisers. Dominant in her sport and likeable, but with a dose of self-awareness mixed in. This bunch of American swimmers is so easy to root for. Phelps was more of a machine, and Lochte was a meathead. A bit different this time around.

- Speaking of Olympic swimmers, Summer Sanders was a crush for adolescent KL.

- Gotta be a challenge for NBC to really generate interest in new Olympic stars. If you try to drum up features and the human interest angle BEFORE they compete, you run the risk of them flaming out (see "Dan vs. Dave"). But if you wait until after they win, it's irrelevant at that point. You get a nice interview out of it, but that's about it.

- The biggest problem with pro soccer (except, you know, the soccer part) is that it's too confusing to keep up with all the different tournaments/leagues/etc. Twitter blew up with that American win over Mexico last night. I assumed it was the Olympics. Nope, it was the "Gold Cup". Seems like the European teams play in 2-3 tournaments/leagues at once. Again, the soccer is the primary issue, but the confusion is up there, too.

- Oldest is trying to begin her college tours, but most of them are still just offering outdoor tours only (ridiculous, IMO). She has several schools on her list that are pipe dreams on paper, but she's trending towards some strong scholarship $$$ potentially, so I don't want to take anything off the table too early. However, we've been very clear that at some point, it may have to come down to money. She understands and has some more reasonable schools on the list.

Can't find the video, but the sideline (sidepool?) reporter pulled some Lisa Guerrero level bullschmidt when interviewing Katie Ledecky after her last Gold.

reporter: so, when do you plan to decide if (**drumroll, dramatic buildup**) this is going to be your last competitive swim ever?
katie = well i'll be back at the next olympics, and the one after that.
reporter: oh ok.

Love the Olympics- my only complaint is that I wish NBC could do a better job of letting me know the schedule. Maybe there’s an easier way I’m missing.

I looked up the women’s marathon, and it’s being played live at 6pm Friday on the USA Network and also live on NBC at 8:30pm.

Don’t see an issue there at all.

- Trimmed the crepe myrtle correctly this past winter and she's come back as a real beaut.

- Got a septuple bogey this weekend which was exciting. With that said, walking 9-12 holes a couple of times per week just clears my head. Rarely have any desire to be in a cart.

- "Hell or High Water" is highly rewatchable.

So glad that dude lost in the women's weightlifting. His ***** *** was to prissy / weak to compete with the men, and got owned by the REAL women. (well at least as real as can be expected)

My Olympic coverage is very simple, scroll to Olympic channel, expand the + icon, it opens all the channels covering the Olympics. They even had 4K for the golf portion. Does not get much easier than that.

Grilled my world class honey / teriyaki glazed pork chops, as usual perfectly cooked and seasoned. Beautiful evening to be outside on the deck, tunes blaring, COLD Miller Lite in the bottle flowing like a stream, Olympics on in the background, definitely NOT stressed.

Steelers / Cowboys Thursday night. Game will suck, but football on my tv is much needed. How Bout Dem Cowboys???

It really makes it tough with Tokyo being over a half a day ahead on the US, but not like this is the first time it has been held with that being the case.

No mention of it, so shout out to my boy Xander Schauffele bringing home the gold. Great story of his mother and grandparents with the Japanese heritage, and his father was an Olympic hopeful in the decathlon before being hit by a drunken driver. He made it interesting coming down stretch, but clutch birdie at 17 and more interesting, par at 18 was just enough. How about Sabbatini firing a blistering final round 61 to nearly steal gold, just recently gaining citizenship recently before competing for the RSA prior. Would have been great IF Morikawa could have beat the other 7 golfers in the playoff for Bronze, but Gold is good enough. If I am being honest, I was low key cheering for Hideki to at least medal.

Your side of the mountain range is always a little prettier and kind of majestic (“Lee Go Majestic “) when i’m down here -

I can’t imagine insisting on my natural “fit” of taking on the ladies team - then losing early - and sacrificing my testes along the way -

Whatever -

Aside from the profoundly optimistic outlook that several have shared on this site for Coach Stoops’ team — i’ve also run into 3-4 guys in quick succession this weekend that are making the “Atlanta” claim -

Its still very hard adapting to even having that conversation -

It’s like Myanmar showing up at the UN one day pushing NATO members around with their suddenly big mean, ground pounding PANZER LIKE MILITARY !!!!!

it’s THAT weird

Fk u i’m going for a drink now ....
