Changing of the guard. These older coaches are seeing the way they coach is outdated.
Not enough people out there recognize this yet. The blue bloods aren't struggling because Covid somehow affected their teams differently. It's not a "throwaway year." The blue bloods are struggling because they have a disproportionate amount of head coaches who are fat, satisfied, old, have a title or two (or 5, Coach K.) big bloated contracts, and no incentive to reinvent themselves. Meanwhile you've got a bunch of hungry up-and-comers looking for any edge to move up. They're more than willing to study modern offenses and shift with the game.

It's a revolution within the game, and Cal's living in the Bastille. All around this tournament you can see fat cows getting eaten by hungry wolves.

Also, for clarity's sake, Cal is fat.

(Hey hey/ yo yo yo/ what up) #BBN this is (insert name). It’s been (an honor/ a privilege/ the dream of a lifetime) to play in front of the (best/craziest/most passionate) fans in the country this year! Y’all are the (best/craziest/most passionate *choose different adjective than prior*)! Unfortunately we didn’t (accomplish our goal/win all of them/get #9). (Insert excuse that explains short term failure but ensures long term prosperity) but still I (learned so much/worked harder than I knew was possible) and I’m so blessed for this opportunity. Shout outs to coach cal, (insert assistant who recruited you), my brothers, and the managers for pushing me to be my best every day. With that being said, I am choosing to (renounce/forego) my remaining eligibility to (pursue my dreams/step up for my family) and will be entering the NBA draft while (signing/not signing) with an agent. I can’t thank BBN enough, thanks for all the support! I can’t wait to (show you all I’ve got +/- make you proud at the next level!)

It’s been coming for awhile. College game starting to catch up with NBA. Was it rudd who quoted Hemingway the other day - “first gradually then suddenly”?

I mean- K, Self, Roy, Izzo- all these dudes are catching similar **** right now from their fans.

Thing is I don’t think you need to go completely Basketball Twitter Nerd to win big. I think some adjustments and Cal can get us back.

Tschibwe is such a freak that he can be an outlier and foundational piece. Toppin, Brooks and Hopkins can be good college 4s. Collins may be a stud.

Get some playmakers and give Allen the run he deserves.

Jones seems to be alluding to us getting Frederick, and the buzz has been there on Powell... Those two would be a damn good start.

The bigger piece is Cal either learning to coach to it or bringing in someone who knows how and letting it happen. The fact that he's pursued a lot of these type of players in the recent past and infamously struggled to use them/run them off tells me Cal knows the problem but can't coach it out of himself.

I know full well what happened at UK this year - but literally every single rival we have losing in the first weekend or not even making the tournament has been one hell of silver lining. Will be completely care free not giving a **** who wins sweet sixteen going forward, which is a rare and fun feeling.

Looks like you won’t be passing us in all time wins this year Kansas, EAD.

I hate this coaching strategy by Alabama.

Recruit great athletes
Play aggressive af
Bomb 3s
Run the other team out of the gym

Man, just seems like a huge waste of talent.

I read Tucker’s latest article on Oats. He also places a major emphasis on elite defense and refuses to let the other team shoot a high % of 3’s.
The old Pitino mantra, shoot the 3 at a high clip and never give up a good amount of 3’s.

If this dude’s star continues to rise and he will only get better recruits.

He’s 46. He has plenty of prime years. Cal is 62

I know Voin has Greg Byrne on speed dial and claims he would never consider KENTUCKY but when Cal hangs it up this guy is the answer.

Even though teams like Kentucky *should* be in prime position to clean up with transfer restrictions, I still don't think I'm a huge fan. Maybe I'm just so tired of UK never having any roster continuity whatsoever that anything that creates incentives for roster shake-ups makes me intuitively suspicious.

Seems like the brutal officiating we've experienced in the last few years and the "freedom of movement" movement put all of this in motion. It's clear who adjusted. It's more clear who just kept jamming the square peg in the round hole, I guess.
I've been saying for a while now that the ****** officiating is a strategy by the NCAA to take away athletic advantage. All those charges on slashers add up, and make shooters more valuable.

Which blue blood is saying adieu to their dinosaur head coach in the next couple, though?

And posts - which they incredibly call offensive fouls on all the time now, too. It’s ridiculous.

For a huge part of college basketball history, freshman were ineligible and there were no athletic scholarships. I'm not advocating for a return to the 1940s, but watching true "student athletes" play in actual college venues in front of mostly college students is WAY more fun than most people realize. The pendulum swinging back in that direction would be great for the sport.

Oats is primed for KU. Surely they will realize Self sucks *** soon or he will leave for NBA.
Self sucks? False.

I hate the Jayhawks, and he's had some awful flame outs, but they're right there every single year. Including last where they were the favorites going into the tourney.

I mean seriously: Louisville, Duke, UNC, Kansas, Tennessee, Florida, Wisconsin, UCONN, Memphis, etc etc etc are out. I think that’s pretty much any team I’ve disliked for more than 5 minutes in the last 20 years that’s lost or didn’t make it. On the main board there is not one single trash talking thread from a rival fan. Not one. What a great year for that to happen. #blessed
