Tubby was a good basketball coach. I thought this was pretty much not debatable. What you can debate is his ability to manage all the other aspects of coaching at a major college basketball program, but I think his ability to understand and teach the game are beyond reproach.

2003 was one of my top 3 teams. Senior year at UK, 26 game winning streak, #1 team in nation (with Zona if I remember), great passing team, smothering defense. Just knew we were going to win it all. I bolted at halftime of the E8 game out the emergency exit at I believe Varsity Blue setting off the fire alarm. Watched second half at Two Keys when the ridiculous charge was called during the comeback.

- Unfortunately, I think Indiana is primed to make a great hire:

* Outside chance Stevens is disenchanted with the NBA. Sincerely doubt it but a chance.

* Drew is at the top of his game.

* Oats is a midwestern guy.

* Beard is a good option.

Funny thing is a lot of their fans still pine for Alford. WTF

- Obviously, there are aspects of coaching, Tubby was good at. I was talking overall.

- Not necessarily rooting for anyone as much as I’m rooting against teams but wouldn’t mind Huggins or Illinois cutting them down.

Yep... been posted before but it's up there.

The last 5:30 of the first half was an amazing experience in person. Just when you thought Rupp couldn't get any louder, the decibels would somehow increase to another level. It just kept building and building, and Florida completely and totally wilted in such a visible fashion. I can't think of anything more raucous than that Bogans breakaway dunk followed up by the alley-oop to Hayes in the closing minute. GD that was fun. 18-year-old me thought that was the coolest sporting event he ever attended. Still do.

How so? I'm newfound Oats fanboy, and I think his system would recruit for itself. I do think the whole "let's wait till he wins in March" is a good prerequisite, but he's my 1b behind the pipedream, Brad Stevens. I'm a flavor of the month, reactionary type dude that would make for a horrible AD. He just seems to have it tho.

There was a sportswriter at the Orlando Sentinel, Mike Bianchi, I think, who had written a column about Florida basketball being the new King of the SEC a day or two before that game. The day after the game the headline for his column was "The Empire Strikes Back".

As you sit and watch Billy D grab his ankles and concede to the prison raping and almost cry, it is hard to believe we were screaming for him as the next coach a few years later.

Refused to believe IU is a one coach program but they have done a lot the last 2 decades to make me start believing otherwise. That said, you have to think sooner or later they will finally get it right.

He’s from Michigan.
