UCL, what line of work you getting into now? Surely you have the sense to not go firm/private practice. If that’s what you’re thinking shoot me a DM. And then put the gun in your mouth. In any event, kudos man - we all dream about doing what you did.

I’ve toyed with similar thoughts. Law blows so bad. If I didn’t have a family that I love to provide for and take care of, I would have checked out, sold everything, and hit the road a long time ago. That’s absolutely true. Jcrow style. But, I do have a family and a home, and the money’s good, so suck it up, Wynn, for at least 25 more years. [sick]

So who died of the covid? Black mamba, Brandon Stroud, and Wyvern? It’s a damned shame.

Today was supposed to be snowy, beautiful, and a sled riding dream for my kids in between breaks of NTI. Instead it rained the whole day and was like 35. F@@k you, Midwest. Welcome to the Permagray for five more months you relentless whorebag.

A groundhog has been rooting through my beds eating my spring bulbs. I sat in my sun deck with a 12 pack and a .22 with cb caps tonight after I put the boys down. Seven beers in - motion detector flood light went off. Stepped outside and took the shot. He was running and I missed. Will get him tomorrow night. Back in the day, I didn’t miss. Need to work on that.

Had a ***** at the office today threaten to quit if we didn’t give her unlimited pto, like in perpetuity (I’m in charge of HR and have to deal with this ****). Told her she was free to take an unpaid leave of absence and come back when she could. Gave her cobra paperwork. She told me to eat a dick and get f@@ked.[laughing]

One of the joys of being a sole practitioner is that you could have fired her immediately. And then sit around and wait for her to make a wage claim and, if you're lucky, file a bar complaint against you.

* In the summer I had to run to the office at 5 am to get a file. Through the backdoor I spotted a ground hog eating all my corn. I had a 9mm pistol downstairs and he was conveniently standing right in front of a five foot tall stone wall that divides my yard from my neighbors. Fortunately for him and unfortunately for me, my wife came down to let the dog out about that time and the dog ran the ground hog off. I was worried the ground hog was going to tear him up.

Little bastard. That afternoon I put about a foot of gravel where the whistle pig was digging up the fence and that stopped him but I still wish I had shot him, noise complaint and criminal charge be damned. At least this way I can erroneously believe that I would have dropped a groundhog at 25 yards with a Glock 19 like a damn Navy SEAL.

* As a DINK, there are few better words to hear in the morning than "Baby, I'm sorry but I got an email from my boss and I have to go into the office today."

* I'm sorry to hear that Kung Flu killed Century Cat. RIP you angry bastard.

* I guess I'll be curious to hear the Matt Jones explanation for swapping UCLA for UNC a few days in advance when both teams are going to be in the same arena on the same day but I'm sure it is just some neurotic horseshit COVID reason to keep 19 year old uber-athletes from getting a disease that has a 0.001% chance of killing them.

* 14 days left in this ******** of a year. I'm just trying to get through Friday and then spend next week without having to get on Zoom or meet with anyone. That's a pipe dream but a man can strive.

* Stay safe, GYERO. Just remember that we're all in this together.

Still in law, but not as much as before (if that makes sense) and jumping a little deeper into the world of public service. I'm also hoping that I will have some time freed up to jumpstart the writing project(s) I've slept on for way too long. I also edited a book chapter for a friend a few weeks ago and apparently am not terrible at it (his proposal was moved to the next stage), so I'm contemplating dipping my toes into that, too. Basically, I'm now trying to do the **** I should have done 20 years ago.

I’m solo practice and have things pretty good on the wrong side of 40, work normal hours and make a comfortable living. But by far the worst part of my job is the expectation that a piece of paper on my office wall gives me the magic ability to clean up the pile of crap you created.

So I woke up after taking some pills I found on the ground with a house full of stolen stuff and a dead hooker in the bathtub. I also accidently ran over my neighbors foot while driving my truck through his house, pretty much destroying everything, and now my wife wants to get a divorce.

But you're an attorney so you can take care of all of this right?

I’m honestly amazed at what that piece of paper hanging on a wall gives you guys the ability to do.

I have (had - rip) a friend who, over the years, had 3 felony drug charges brought against him and I think he spent - at most - 4 months in a county jail.

Granted, I’m sure it’s more about the contacts you have/relationships you’ve developed.....but still.

*I should add on 2 of those occasions he also ran from the police, nearly killing himself twice in wrecks.

The most rewarding aspect of practicing law is getting someone the best result they could’ve imagined and (a) they don’t bother saying thank you and (b) they f*ck it up within 48 hours.

I once had a guy charged with Kidnapping (took a woman against her will, refused to let her go, led police on a high speed chase, etc.) who was PFO 1st eligible, so if convicted could potentially get life in prison.

I worked it out as a misdemeanor with probated time in district court in a county in which the CA just didn’t care that much.

Guy was like “cool thanks”.

-Knife making went great. Applied last coat of oil to the first round. Ordered a couple more (cleaver and hawksbill pairing knife) to complete my current set. Belt sander, jigsaw, clamps, Dremel. Already had all the tools.

-Rodents in our yards don't make it long. Neighbors' dog wears them out.

-Would really like DJ Jefferies on this team.

-Sausage making CDC approved small gathering set for the weekend.

-Happy for UCL but sad he dove deeper into the machine.

-Reverse Sear for rib roast. Basically lowest over temp until internal of 129, rest, then blast in hottest setting on oven for 6-10 minutes.

-PTI couldn't weld for ****. TS. He picked the right profession.

Rugby shirts are pretty meh.

Gotta be a market for a really nice, "authentic" University of Kentucky hockey jersey. Easily the coolest of the sports jerseys. As long as it matched my Ferragamos, I'd definitely wear that to UK sporting events.

I have several actual rugby jerseys so I’m ready for the comeback.

I’ve saved the thank you cards I’ve received over about 20 years of doing this. I’m up to (checks) 2. I get it though- if nothing else I understand that anyone who comes into contact with me professionally speaking has had something absolutely horrible happen to them and the less they think about me the better. I represent a piece of the worst part of their lives. Merry Christmas!

I've got a good lead for any of you ambulance chasing leaches that like chewing up insurance companies. One of my employees got tail ended this week and his truck was totaled. What tools didn't get destroyed in his toolbox were stolen when it was at the tow yard. My dude was turning into a parking lot and his S10 got rammed at full speed by a large dodge (no pun).

What’s amazing is how many professions this actually applies to. It basically sums up healthcare perfectly.

Except if a healthcare worker doesn’t fix everything perfectly he gets sued by a lawyer, naturally.
