- I’m all for social justice but we’ve reached a tipping point when the NFL of all organizations are tripping all over themselves to awkwardly promote the cause ... from the pregame show to the commercials to the actual game. I mean am I supposed to GAF what Phil F’ing Sims thinks? Are these pregame antics from the teams supposed to inspire? It’s a damn circus.

- And we KNOW about COVID and how careful everyone in football is being. Awesome. Appreciate it but can you Spare us the segments and please just talk football? We’re thirsty bro.

- I’m good for a 25% tip damn near always at true restaurants and even give a solid amount on takeout BUT I don’t really appreciate this new manipulation trend of asking for a tip at places like Panera and Jersey Mike’s. Just rubs me the wrong way... and I still end up tipping. It’s like a white liberal guilt tax.

- Few things more disorienting than a daytime nap that ends in darkness. It it 10 pm or 5 am? Sunday? Monday? What the hell is going on?

- What are some terms with positive connotations that are, in reality, usually not good, or not as good as the complimenter or self-giver think they are? I have two examples - perfectionist and thicc/thick.

- Congratulations to Dakari Johnson on his engagement. Love that dude.

- Snap judgements on people’s character based on social media, including GYERO, is lame ... which is why I rescinded my Kisner take. Upon review of the video BBdK showed me, the guy is cool.

- Two 90s songs I find apropos right now: “Zombie” by The Cranberries and “Losing a Whole Year” by Third Eye Blind.

- How do single mothers do it? How do young teenage moms do it? It’s been eye-opening. Here’s to them.

- Picked up some Oakley Frogskins for my more casual shades.

- Man listening to all my college football podcasts and reading all the articles, it’s almost surreal hearing all the respect coming for Big Blue. Long live Stoops. I cannot wait to see these boys play.

We left my dads house early this morning after camping for the weekend and as we were driving home it came an absolute down pour. I told my wife if it rains like this very long they’re in trouble. An hour later when we got home this was 127.

-Fall lovers should love this weekend. Lows dipping in the mid 40's. Bummer, was hoping for another Indian Summer.

-Yesterday felt somewhat normal. Sports all over the place.

-Sous vide Flank Steak, red wine/mushroom sauce, baked cauliflower/cheese/bacon, wedge, roasted carrots. Shew. Very agreeable Sunday night.

-50 miles on Saturday, perfect weather, for B2BC. Stinks we couldn't do the normal route but it was nice to get it over with and not have to drive 3 hours round trip.

-Glad we got those pesky riots isolated to just 2 square blocks in Portland 🙄.

- Rack that forecast for Saturday. Kid is scheduled to run in the Trinity Invitational at Tom Sawyer Park. Ready to rock the cross-country dad "School windbreaker with visor" look while I pray that my kid doesn't pass out again. She was running 5th in a STRONG field(three of the top 5 girls in the state competing) the other night before starting to see stars at the 2.5-mile mark and shutting down. All kinds of tests being run on her over the next few days. Two seasons in a row something has gone south. Nothing worse than seeing your kid not being able to enjoy what they love to do.

- Not sure I can remember a Kentucky basketball recruiting cycle being so wild, even by Cal's standards. From Hardy/Paolo/Huntley-Hatfield/Skyy to Sallis/Collins/Diabate/Hopkins?

- As of Saturday, our kids have nicer phones than we do. Guess that's what they mean when they talk about "leaving the world a better place for your children", etc.

- Somehow, Dave Leitao has landed two Top-100 recruits at DePaul. Congrats to those kids on suiting up next season for new Head Coach Kenny Payne's first Blue Demons squad.

- How far has the SEC West come, basketball-wise, when the weakest coaching link is Ben Howland? Really like what Davis and Oats are doing at Ole Miss/Bama respectively, Bruce is Bruce, Wade's a gangster, and Buzz is in my top 3 Cal replacement list. We've come a long way from Ed Murphy, Rick Ray, and, well, Tony Barbee.

- Since he's now posted about it on Facebook, I'll officially offer GYERO condolences to Strokin' Bandit on the loss of his dad. He was obviously a huge figure in that town. People were even talking about him yesterday at my church. Was ready to take a break from GYERO after our political drain-circling on Thursday, but then was reminded of the normalcy this place brings to abnormal times.

-played golf for the first time in 8 years Saturday. 9 at LCC. Didn't keep score. 1 legit par on a 5 and a sand save bogey on the last hole, happy enough. Driver/irons better than expected...putting was ****.

-live music Saturday at MMH was nice...food truck was a no-show so we had jimmy johns delivered. Their bread is dope.

-started "wild chile" on Disney+ last night. Nature shows are the perfect pre-sleep fare.

-i just want the humidity to go away.

*I havent even really tried to figure out the MLB playoff picture yet- but it appears that every team except the Pirates is in somehow.

*More torrential rain all week from the outer bands of a hurricane. Will spend the day laying sand bags and making sure the utility pumps are ready to go.

*Against my better judgement I played a local muni last week and after hundreds of rounds of golf, I finally witnessed the rare "mark my ball with my cigarette" move by a local gentleman. I dont know why I thought it was so hilarious, but when the man lined up his put, put his ball back down, placed his heater back in his mouth, and missed a 7 footer- I lost it.

*Alec Mills

*The Big Tem really handled things well, no? Honestly once a few days went by when the SEC/BIG12/ACC all neglected to hop on board the cancel train- you could see this was how it was going to play out.

*Normally im happy to see my buds get a hard to find bottle of bourbon, but that isnt the case with this years Birthday Old Fo. I hate everyone who got a bottle, especially the ones who wouldnt know Old Grandad from Buffalo Trace.

*Get your flu shots people.

*My not so underrated, but still somewhat underrated player this year is Chris Rodriguez. Expecting big things from him.

if we’re talking weekend menus- let’s just say I cooked my summer cuisine opus for a family party on Saturday.

my brisket was flawless. Juicy AF. Pencil thin slices, smoke ring, rendered point. prime. No sauce, Texas rub of salt and pepper. Never got above 250° on egg. Cherry & Hickory smoke. 20 hour cook. Used a digiQ to avoid swings.

Pork belly burnt ends stole the show for the BBQ newbs. Saucey and Smokey.

Clams Casino.
Antipasto.
Eggplant camponata on semolina bread
Goat cheese stuffed pickled. hot peppers
Collard greens.
Tomato salad
Jersey Corn

Peach Cobbler

OF 1920
Smoke Wagon
Murray Hill Club
then a double of Stagg Jr rounded out the evening.

GLORIOUS weather for the first time ever for an outside festa. Thankful.

then, last night, with extra clams in peril - made linguini w/white clam sauce with sausage/bacon, basil... adapted from a recent Matty Matheson recipe.

fridge full of leftovers for the week.

* Played 9 at Cherokee after work Friday. Man, city seems content to let that course go. Dilapidated clubhouse that didn't sell any gear or food/beverage. Some fairways were manicured, others looked like they hadn't been touched since spring. Regardless, perfect dosage of greens time for a casual-at-best golfer.

Hoots afterwards for wings and a few frosties. Even with a slight talent uptick that place just isn't the same since they gave the place a face lift. #makehooterstackyagain

* Sampled the '20 Birthday last night. Of course it's delicious, but dropping from 12 - 10 year aging is noticeable.

* YouTube TV offering RedZone now so dabbled with it for the first time and man it's no joke from 3-4 when all the early games are coming to a close. The studio analyst was like a flight coordinator at Dulles trying to navigate his way through all the scoring plays at the end, especially the Bears v. Lions and Skins v. Eagles. Felt like I needed a smoke afterwards.

* With Rutgers and Maryland hunkering down on not playing and Michigan appearing to be going along simply because the proverbial guns is to their head, I'm still holding out hope the B1G touches up this restart and never gets the season off the ground.

Definitely going to start asking the lass if she WANTS TO BE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY whenever necessary.
I recently saw a Graham Norton clip wherein RuPaul laid out two phrases that can be used as a response (to anything!) as a power move / conversation spurrer.

“Thanks for the warning.” &
“I’ll be the judge of that.”

Along with my trusty standard of “I’ll allow it,” I found a lot of solid use cases during hectic domestic duties this weekend.

I also like throwing in an obnoxious amount of “Earth to’s” and “Newsflashes” when the mood strikes.

Finally, unpaused my YTTV account yesterday(f*ck the Reds and FSOH) after having enough of the BS that is Hulu(what a POS service) and watched RZ. It's perfect for the casual fan. $10, I can deal with that.

- Appreciate the folks who have sent me condolences via Facebook or text. Means a lot. Catshaser (an occasional drive-by poster, especially when youth baseball comes up), is my brother. We both hit the jackpot as it relates to parents. We've lost all of our grandparents and both parents within the past 7 years. Some expected, some not.

2020 has had its share of suck, but this entire decade can eat one, personally. From 2013 on, it's been hit after hit. Could be due for a new beginning/awakening. I keep looking for that light at the end of this darkness and I believe it will be there.

- Genuinely happy for Chad. It was cool to see the excitement. Willy's photoshop was the first time I was able to chuckle since my bad news. The pink head-wrap around his photoshopped mug got me.

- I'm glad sports are back and all, but college football really sucked Saturday. There was little to no "edge." And pageantry is what makes that sport what it is.

- The NFL was the same. Empty stadium football games are going to be tough to get used to. It may because my fantasy football team sucked per always, but there is just a lack of energy. Sports are meant to be experienced by live crowds. I don't care how good HD/3D television technology becomes. Without fans, there is no energy or edge. Very anti-septic.

- That's all I got for now. As always, thanks for the banter GYERO.

College basketball HC predictions for the next decade:

UK- Cal will be here another 4-6 years. He will be replaced by a solid coach thus extending the great coach, solid coach, drunk coach UK hiring pattern. My guess is Chris Holtmann. Chris Beard will already have another big time job.

IU- Archie will last another 2 years. He will be replaced by Chris Beard, who of course has Knight ties. They will better than they were under Crean but not Knight level.

UL- Mack will be there a long time giving all 3 Kentuckiana teams a Chris as a HC.

Duke- K will last 2-3 more years. Dawkins will get the first shot despite better candidates. He'll last 3-5 years before being replaced by Wojo or Hurley.

UNC- Roy will last 3-5 more years. He'll dip mid-season in the midst of a disappointing season citing health concerns. Steve Robinson will take over and lead them to a respectable season. He'll keep the job 1-2 years ala Guthridge and they'll hire an up and coming UNC linked coach. I'm guessing Stack or Wes Miller.

Kansas- Self will resign after program is hit with major sanctions. Other big coaches will be scared away by penalties. They'll hire a decent coach with Jayhawk ties. Between Jerod Haase, Tad Boyle and Mark Turgeon... I'll go with Haase. He'll be out in 4-6 years and they'll hire Buzz after his very successful stint with Tex AM.

Others of note:
Florida- Anthony Grant
Tenn- Steve Forbes
Mizz- Tad Boyle
Clemson- Shaka Smart
Arizona- Brian Dutcher
Pitt- Keith Damrot
Maryland- Kevin Willard
Syracuse- Danny Hurley
UConn- Steve Pikell
Georgia Tech- Ron Hunter
Mich St- Dwayne Stephens
Marquette- Brian Wardle
Memphis- Sean Miller
West Virginia- John Brannen
Cincy- Archie
Tulsa- Cuonzo Martin
Georgetown- Jamion Christian
Texas- Gregg Marshall

"NFL sends memo to all teams to reinforce requirements that coaches must wear face coverings at all times on sidelines."

Of all the form-over-substance COVID measures, this one makes me [eyeroll]....

Most (maybe all?) NFL teams are using rapid COVID tests on gameday. Players not wearing face coverings during play - no problem. Players not wearing face coverings on the sideline - nothing to see here. But damnit, the world is going to end if coaches don't keep face coverings on at all times.

And about Jokic, everything about him is up my alley. Absolutely love his game and and he's the best outlet passer in the NBA outside of Kevin Love. Credit the water polo background?

Knew you'd take my tweet and run with it but BBdK hasn't graced us with a legitimate basketball take since April.

Anyway, just think they rely on his gifts too much sometimes where it bogs down the ball movement. Would benefit guys like Gary Harris and Grant more, IMO. Doesn't hurt to an athletic rim runner come in to spell the big fella and give the D something else to worry about.
