I have some success with live in game college football gambol. Vegas/bettors get a little skittish too early on.

Last night Miami struggled on their opening drive & the spread dropped down to -14.5. Locked it.

I also bet Navy +1 this past Monday pre-kickoff. After BYU was thoroughly gashing them midway through the first I locked in BYU -12.5 doubling the amount I was going to lose with Navy +1.

****IM NOT GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY LOSSES LAST SATURDAY WITH SMU AND MEMPHIS NOT COVERING ONLY MY WINS ***

Not weird at all Anth. I have a fourth grader and we’ve already started talking about finding a math tutor. I’m terrible at math anyway, so the instant they start introducing letters into math problems I won’t be much help anymore.

Being **** at math limited my career options, and I don’t want that for my kid. So I’d rather go overboard and get a tutor just to make sure she doesn’t end up like me.

An album that I was thinking about this morning that has withstood the test of time is Live's Throwing Copper. "White, Discussion" captures pretty well the current state of our political discourse.

But for those with newborns/babies, stay away from "Lightning Crashes" unless you want to choke back tears.

How did Live have this one great album, and then seemingly drop off the face of the earth?

-That's All Right, Mama
If you're picking an Elvis song you gotta go with something from the 50s, when he was in his prime. Older Elvis, give me Kentucky Rain.

-JCPS will be back in buildings the first week or 2nd week of October. Nobody likes NTI but we had one of our students almost die from Covid last Spring. He had a 104 temp and collapsed lungs. He was one of my bball players. Bashear mentioned him in one of his pressers. That one hit way too close to home so I don't mind the over cautiousness. But we all would much rather be in the classroom.

I hope all these Richards that got bogus PPP loans do hard prison time and get cornholed nightly. This ish almost destroyed my company and did destroy countless more.

- Yesterday was something, huh? Hope we all got it out of our systems.

- Has already been said, but huge congrats to Fields. The reals in here know, but amateur and mini-tour golf is just ridiculously competitive. Some of the Monday qualifier bad beats and low scores will shock you. Ever want to know the real trials and tribulations of "just trying to make it" golfers, give a twitter follow to @acaseofthegolf1. Unreal story lines.

- I actually think the Baker Mayfield commercials are kind of funny. Not sure what that says about me. Guess it's time for me to start telling dad jokes.

- CFC settling into Catholic school really well. Going to be hard to leave to go back to Cassidy next year (or whenever things return to "normal"), but I just can't justify paying the property taxes we do and not taking advantage of the reason for doing so.

- Why do we have grapes, which are fruit, and also grapefruit? Not to mention the fact that they look and taste absolutely nothing alike.

- Ninja Warrior is back, and I'm psyched. CFC been getting into it also. That show has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years, going back to the original Japanese version (Sasuke to them, renamed Ninja Warrior for Western audience appeal) that you could only watch late at night on G4. Gave me something to do for my law school days insomnia.

- I'm as green as they come in this department, but lass and I went out to Cabela's "just to look" (how it always starts) and ended up taking a dive on the house brand propane grill and griddle combo. Only $300 and signed up for the card to get an additional $25 off on the spot. Decided to take GYERO's advice on not going overboard to start, getting myself acclimated on this, then will spring for the higher end stuff later.

- Flipping back and forth last night between college and NFL football while slamming collides on a Thursday night was as normal as I've felt in months.

- No Limit Friday Five (couldn't help myself having recently finished the doc):
1. Percy - Bout It Bout It (the one that really put them on the map)
2. Steady Mobb'n - Puff Puff Pass (always surprised how few know about this one, even those that followed NL closely)
3. TRU - I Always Feel Like
4. Young Bleed - How Ya Do Dat
5. TRU - FEDz

I like both thighs and breasts. (insert Doc Boat comment here)

Thighs are my go to, though. Cheaper and more flavor.

There are a lot of fast, easy instant pot thigh recipes out there that are flavorful for those of us hard working Dads whose wives can't cook worth a damn.

Call me a simpleton all you like, but I love the occasional tender from Cane's or Tender Towne.

Not trying to be a dick, but going to Malibu Jacks seems like basically throwing all caution to the wind. IMO. I mean, good for you guys, Henry will have a blast. Just sayin'.
I understand. Father/son trip. It's a huge space, we'll have masks and I think we can keep our distance. He loves it and it's what he wants to do. I can count on one hand how many times he's been away from the house for the entire pandemic. I owe it to him.

Oh, I'm with you, buddy. Kids need balance. Just quite the turn of events. Have a blast. Plus, CFA in the parking lot on the way out is a bonus.

That's going to be so f*cking embarrassing. Is it weird for a parent to get a tutor so they don't look like a dumbass and can actually help?
When the time comes I can point you towards some good apps to help you out, internet friend.

Google helps.

That Core Curriculum math stuff (the grids and all that) is something else. Perfect example of some educator(s) sitting around with too much time on their hands and just needing to make stuff more complicated for the sake of it. Literally hundreds of years went by with some really smart people learning math "the old fashioned way" and succeeding quite well.

I WILL SAY THIS THO’... Facebook memes aside, I’m actually a big fan of the common core math stuff my kids had in elementary school and wish I had that when I was a young blood coming up. Some of the “weird” multiplication/division strategies they taught my kid are how my brain always worked those problems but I wasn’t taught/allowed to do it that way when I was in school. If I had I’m pretty sure I’d be president of the Mars Base by now.

Also they’ve never learned a way that gave them a different answer than what you get on your calculator so don’t at me.

Nice to see first responders back on the “good guys” list, if even for a day. Shout out to everyone in that field. Brother is a firefighter and while I like to give him a hard time about only “working” 3 days a week, no way I could ever do his job so I’m very appreciative of everyone that can.

My wife thinks they’ll be back in school by the end of September. Thank you GOD. Been trying to balance working from home and the office as much as I can but it makes it impossible to get into a groove. Plus, sitting at a desk in the office is 100000x easier than trying to make my kids do anything school related.

First weekend since 6/20 with no baseball. Probably going to paint my closet ERRRR nursery and do some decorating. We decided against football for the boys this fall. I miss it, but I won’t miss sitting at practices 3 hours a night 3 nights a week. Nice little fall baseball league once a week will suffice.

Finally cut my covid mullet. Longest my hair has probably ever been. I looked absolutely terrible so it was time. Not many things lift the spirits like a nice fade, ballpark tan and a new pfg.

I really thought by the year 2020 Doritos would be selling shakers of their cool
Ranch seasoning. Lucky charms finally started selling the bags of marshmallows so that’s a start I guess.

I spent 34 years sleeping on the doobie brothers. My god. What a catalogue those guys have.

- My oldest just started Kindergarten and it is all online. I'm disappointed that she doesn't get the socialization of being at school, but play dates have been a lifesaver. It also helps that her birthday is right after the cutoff, so she has a year head start anyhow and that is comforting.

- Last night felt somewhat normal to have football back. Both kids were in bed by 7:30, had the house to myself for the first time in 5 months since having the youngest, and was able to enjoy a couple of Miller High Lifes (Lives?) while barely paying attention to anything.

- Speaking of foosball, I can't wait for the College season. I'm bordering on the thought of just giving Stoops a 5 year extension guaranteed and seeing where the chips fall. If everything holds up, I think it is realistic to have a 6-4 or 7-3 season with what we have in the trenches.

- Louisville this weekend for my niece's birthday. I'm biased, but Cincy/NKY will always be my favorite city on the river.

- Friday 5:

1. Anna Muse - Felix Rabito
2. Airliner - Cheers Elephant
3. Ride - Twentyone Pilots
4. Devil Like Me - Rainbow Kitten Surprise
5. Sunshine - Atmosphere

(I also actually like the common core math stuff and think it sets a better foundation for learning how to think.)

I’ve been on a kick of buying every possible excuse for phsycial “learning” games for my kids to play. Tuesday, there was a lesson on reading maps with grids. Last night, Battleship showed up and we had a great time learning some more about map grids.

I tell my daughters that if I sat through the classes and received instruction like they did, I would know how to do the work, but I didn't, so I really can't help you, pay better attention in class.

Yeah, it's a cop-out, but they're smart enough to figure that stuff out without me trying to remember how to do stuff I learned in the 1980's and never used afterwards.

H is crushing common core math. I love the confidence it gives him. Anything that gets him going at school is a godsend.

When I was a sophomore in high school, I was driving to a game with some guys on my baseball team. “Taking it to the Streets” came on the radio, and one of the guys said “this is a f*ggot song and only f*ggots like it”.

For the next couple years, I tried to figure out what about the song made it a f*ggot song. But then that guy came out in college, and since then I’ve just assumed he knew what he was talking about so I try not to catch myself enjoying that song like it’s some sort of litmus test.

Thankfully my kids get their math brains from their mom, so I don't have to help out much there.

Having kids - and dealing with their school - makes me realize that my family did absolutely jackshit in terms of helping me when I was in school. And I mean with anything - organization, keeping tabs on homework, studying for tests, applying for college, applying for scholarships. I did every bit of it myself. I suspect that was more normal than not once upon a time.

I think the fact that the common core math tries to go straight to the intuitive way is the problem. The point of doing math the formal way is so you can do complex calculations and have a base for more advanced math. Teaching the "shortcuts" doesn't help, because, as attested here, most people develop those shortcut skills on their own.
