He's still kicking it in Manchester, as depraved as ever.
Oddly comforting in these strange times...what's not comforting is how difficult it is to post via phone after the upgrade. More like downgrade amirite. I'll show myself the door now.

Monday morning - don't want to be here randos:

- Officially a morning person now. Get up around 5-530 and take full advantage of the quiet hours to get my mind right for the day. Doc cleared working out this week so back on the lift/cardio train to get the blood flowing. Also, sweat out last night's IPA/White Russians.

- Golf is the best sport on TV right now. No politics and dudes just playing at the highest level trying to bury the others. When 'get in the hole" losers show back up, it will take some of the joy out of what's been happening lately. It's as pure as it can be right now. Enjoy it while this lasts.

- Tie between slowest fast-looking cars on the road per hour or so of turning 95 into my personal racetrack. Charger/Challenger or Stang. Please don't think all those ponies offset the weight. Most difficult to stay ahead of - Tesla. Won't even try off the line with them but they're in for a fight if it's a rolling start.

- My neighbors kid looks like Larry from Big Lebowski. He's also the idiot that scalps my yard every few weeks when his dad is out there yelling at him to do something.

- Wife had a meltdown a couple weeks ago. Nothing resets her like after she goes and spends time with the nieces/nephews. We love them and a big reason is because when they get to the uncontrollable point of tired rage, we can bounce.

- Krazy is a national treasure. Admittedly couldn't stand him for years but was wrong AF on that. Just wondering what toll it takes on Brax being moved to #2 on the enigma list.

- One day closer to the end of the election year. Can't wait to see how all politicians go back to personal-enrichment and not GAF about the rest of us. Save your money, pay your taxes and vote.

- Lucifer S5 kinda meh through 3 episodes. Such a low bar for me so the smoke keeps me tuned in.

- Watched 30 mins of the Irishman last night. Can't do it. Can't sit through old/haggard Pesci and DeNerio. The Mobster Era of movies is dead. Still life in drug cartels so there's that, I guess.

- Saw a teacher sitting in the lobby of the hospital last week dressing down a kid over chat. Didn't know what to make of that other than, it must be a shitshow overall.

- Give me a grill, a choice cut of meat and I'm about 75% likely to turn it into something edible. Not ready for the big guns, yet but tempting. Like to enjoy my simpleton pallet a bit longer.

- That's all I got. Another full week of getting my *** beat ahead. Enjoy the day/week.

-Weird that athletes and sports media don't want people to tell them to stick to sports but then get all pissy when they don't agree with their opinion. Pot and Kettle there. Discussions are 2 way.

-No problem with Brooks saying we should remove Rupp's name, but when you admit you haven't done the research, you're going to be crushed. Not sure if he realizes but Rupp is pretty important to the program and revered by fans. Cal has told the players be prepared for the backlash if you want to speak out. Just part of it as it should be. Educate yourself, young man, then speak.

-****** part of getting old. Not being able to sleep in. Like, "I'm going to sleep in, this is going to be amazing." 7:45a wide awake. 🤬When I was in my 20s I could sleep until 2-3p if the situation was right.

-The Breonna Taylor NYT article is really good. What a f*cking mess.

-Ruby's with the crew was a hoot. Other than the dumbshit executive order keeping us from ordering booze after 10pm. Had the bourbon room to ourselves. Good times had. Things got a little fuzzy just before the night cap with Bonz. Woke up in bed with my 5 year old at 3a😂 Guess I went in to tuck him in and decided that was far enough.

-Julian Alaphilippe. Stud.

-I'm beyond over these riots.

-It's Derby Week!! I mean, this is a complete horse **** version, but I'm going to make the most of it. Taking Friday off and getting my gambol on. LFG. Let's just hope an armed militia doesn't shut the whole thing down.

I recall an interview with John Thompson where he was talking about being accused of using intimidation to get his way. He said it’s not his fault that if he stands up at 6'10 with his loud booming voice that he comes across as intimidating, but if that's the case so be it. That always stuck with me as both funny and absolutely true.

Long Weekend Randoms

-Completed my first 3 day Member Guest Golf Tournament with a close ER Doctor buddy of mine. It was both of our first times playing in a tournament like this and was pretty dang proud of how we played for both being hackers. We came in 38th out of 88 teams, won some side money, got some free Peter Millar swag, and drank all the beer and bourbon we could handle. He's been a member there for a couple years and we were constantly surrounded by Doctors, Surgeons, and attorneys. Not sure I ever felt like poor white trash more in my life, but all really good guys that are just living life at a level way above mine.

Keene and Champions were in beautiful shape and those greens reminded me those fast as f greens at the Eli Barron years ago. Pretty much like putting on glass. Great times and the golf bug has bitten my *** again. Going to try to get a couple rounds in this week between dove shoots.

-Dove season. Our field of sunflowers has really brought the birds in. Going to shoot later this week and probably labor day. Been trying to get the dog in better form this year to retrieving something other than a tennis ball. Hopefully the work will pay off. If you're a friend and want to join, hit me up.

-Travel youth Baseball. I'm not sure I was ever truly prepared for the craziness that is travel baseball and I'm getting close to considering just pulling my kids out of it. Has any of you younger posters gone through the process and have any positive or negative feelings on it? My kids are 6 & 8 and they just seem so young to be recruited to different teams, wanting big money to join, traveling all over the countryside, and practicing year round for what..... Is that 8U Tournament win really going to get you a scholarship? No.....

I had always heard about the craziness of travel ball and youth baseball in general, but every year it just gets more and more intense.

-5 Days away from the office was perfect for my mind at work. Been so busy this year and had zero vacation because of Covid really had me in a funk. Walked in this morning feeling like a new man. F Covid and whats its done to my #VacayLyfe

-If there has been any positive of 2020, the stock market game has just been tremendous in 2020.

-Football can't get here soon enough.

-Cougar Bait is the best beer made. Prove me wrong.

I found some classics looking for this one.

When I have time, I'll upload them to imgur and post some of them.

Man, I did pick on Anth, Chad and BBdK too much. But it was just because I love ya! (and you're a bunch of touching idiots)

-Loved John Thompson (except on the mic during NCAA-T radio broadcasts....he was terrible). As imposing a figure as he was, and as great a coach as he was, my enduring memory of him has always been him hugging Fred Brown after Brown had thrown a pass right to James Worthy to seal the title for UNC in 1982. That shot of the hug was always part of the old Final Four highlights shows they used to play on ESPN back in the day. Was obsessed with those shows.

Thinking back through all the great players that Thompson had at GU, and I can only think of one that Kentucky actively recruited: Othella Harrington.

Favorite Hoya of all time...David Wingate. Loved that guy.

-So glad Bourbon n' Toulouse has reopened. Apparently there had been rumors that it was closing forever. What a bush league move if that rumor was started by someone with ill intentions. We're not New Orleans, but between BnT, Sahara, Dad's, Old San Juan, Ouita's places, etc....we're not hurting for great non-chains.

-Butter pecan because old and white and boring.

-The "State of the Program" features by The Athletic are great pre-CBB season reading. I *get* why Iowa is getting so much preseason love, but man....those dudes couldn't guard ME.

-Frenzied MLB trade deadline already underway. So many teams still in contention, might be a rare deadline day that actually delivers.

Huber - I’ve been deep into travel ball since my oldest (now 13) was 6 years old and I have loved just about every minute. 7 off the original team are still together.

However, we never practiced year-round as all of the kids play at least 1 more sport. It has also gotten much more tame as the years have gone by. I’d say 75% of us (parents) now just sit in the outfield drinking cold beer.

Gotta brag a little now - our team has always been a good-to-great AA team, but we got moved up to AAA and Major status this year. Went 19-8 and my kid ended the year with a sub 1.00 ERA against some of the best teams in the midwest. Needs some work at the plate, but that’s not gonna be his calling.

Having said all that - if your kid loves the game it’s a good idea to keep him in travel. If you think he’s getting tired/burnt out..... get him out.

Travel ball could mean many things. Most of what I was a part of was playing is tournaments after the regular season ended with and All-Star team from that league. Pretty much all of the Lexington Leagues do that. It is not horrible and goes from mid-June thru about mid-August.

Now there is also the full on travel league where the kids do not play any league ball and play tournaments every week. I never wanted to do this and really like the community of Little League.

However, there are going to be some that take it too far. One of the guys I coached with wanted to play after the league season was over in mid-June thru the fall in late October. We did that my son's 11 year old year and it pretty much burnt my son out and he quit playing.

We do rec league as well. Travel ball coaches have always encouraged that.

Travel ball gets a very bad rep. Mostly due to there being so many damn teams and parents thinking their team should win every game/tourney. That kinda goes away the older the kids get.

Freaking SE Lex. That’s the team that ended our season this year. One of our kids just missed a walk-off homerun (caught at the warning track). Lost 8-6 and those bastards ended up winning that tourney.

Really wanted that one for Brax.

That’s almost identical to what we have done. We formed a travel team with what should’ve been the 6 year old all stars, but our league decided not to have one that year (for that age group)

After that year our all star team was basically 95% of our travel team.

This year we played in 6 tourneys with 4 being ‘big’ ones (Thursday-Sunday). We may play 2-3 more in the fall just to acclimate moving up to 13u (longer base paths and mound).

My wife was telling my about our 6 yr old nephew's baseball game. The dads have them hitting switch now. I guess I get it - everyone wants to believe they have a little Chipper. But, a million cuts from the natural side, unless the kid is just a natural from both sides, is going to prove out to be better than trying to parse up the nuanced differences of the swings. Per usual, parents find a way to take the fun out of the game instead of letting natural talent flourish. Let them be kids and if they're Brax Bombers, it will develop over time.

My dog's ear keeps getting some kind of infection, and we have to go to the Vet every few weeks. Apparently it is either allergies or his food. I'm close to just having them cut off his ear and cauterize the wound.

Had been dealing with the same thing this spring & summer for our dog that has troubles continuously every allergy season. We got a different vet in the rotation a couple of weeks ago, and they mentioned the option of getting a shot instead of the ear/eye applications and pills. We did that this time and it was cleared up within two days it was cleared up for him. Maybe you've already gone that route, but it has helped us tremendously.

~Travel baseball at 6 and 8....are you serious? They won't want to pick up a glove in a couple of years.

~Not enough time to tell you how bad a beer take that is. It is better than any of the big boy domesto piss water, I'll admit, but it isn't even C-Boy's best.

Funny/not funny but still avoiding the work.

Had a classmate off himself recently. Didn't really know the guy but one of his best friends lives with my brother. His mom reached out via text from his phone to roommate asking to talk. Brother's roommate turns white as a ghost and shows the text to my brother. Not because he thought he was getting texts from the dead - it was following a conversation they had of brother's roommate pre-jacking with some chick.

- Our pup has been battling a skin issue and ear issue. Letting my wife run through the list of essential oils and have mumbled a few times that we should probably try different food. Becoming more convinced that Vets have the best racket going.

My pup also has an empty ball-bag after he was neutered and ashamed I didn't stay on top of that process. Why does he have an empty bag, honey? Oh, it was $100 more and more stitches. She got me on the financial saving but I just can't look at him the same knowing he's falsely advertising and looks like a walking botched transition.
