This team compares more to the Harrison’s/Randle team IMO.

No real expectations, no real reason to think they’d do much, and for some reason as a 9 seed just felt no one wanted to play us. We should draw a better seeding, but that team didn’t deserve to be so low either IIRC.

They stepped up as I think this team will.

CBB so sh*tty this year, most of Cal's teams would have no excuse not to win the title. 10, 11(?), 12, 14, 15, 17, 19(?). But of course, we get this bunch. As with anything, timing is everything.

Cal's not perfect in March, but he's definitely had his moments.

It's true that his squads played tight as **** and lost to inferior teams in the NCAAT when they played Auburn in '19, Kansas State ([sick]) in '18, Indiana in '16, UConn in the two title games, and WVU in '10.

It's also true that the 2011 and 2014 runs were incredible and due mostly to him getting the most out of inexperienced and flawed teams.

Every NCAA Tournament loss he has at UK other than UNC in 2017 was an upset. Of course, every Tournament loss Coach K has is an upset as well, so he ain't the only one.

I'm in wait-and-see mode now. Fully expect I'll be convinced we're the favorite by that warm, breezy SEC Tournament weekend where we peak on Sunday against LSU in a 7 point victory.

By 8pm that night, I'll be sure we're going to lose in the second round.

Probably Sweet 16 with Hagans melting down and Richards in foul trouble as the final result.

-I loved that 2011 team but I'd like to see some of those February 2011 takes while we were limping to a 10-6 SEC record. Not sure where I stand on the comparison but I doubt "dawgs" would be the description.

-I've been pretty rough on this team because they lost to Evansville, arguably the worst loss in program history, but when they're focused they're pretty good. We'll see. We're due a little luck in one of these runs.

-Football staff has the playbook down on getting a raise. Promoted and inflate the job offer seriousness with the media then get the bag. None of this hoopla is around the dudes that have left.

Tried to listen to KSR for Marrow news. Made it 2 minutes. Literally unlistenable.

Shows how awful local sports radio is in the area that this is the standard bearer.

Contract master Mitch better be furiously jotting down humongous offers till Vince accepts one. MJ teed this up real nice for Mitch. Pay the man big time, and be a hero. Hell, give yourself a raise, too.

The most important thing really is for EJ, Hagans, Richards, and IQ to have a nice SEC Tourney and 2/3 game NCAA run so they can solidify their NBA stock and live out their lifetime dreams. Players first ATKOT. Be the absolute very best version of themselves.

For about 5 or 6 games.

Ha. Mich St counters with a higher offer. Part of this may be Mags floating stuff out there to get Marrow a much deserved raise but part of it is real.

You know what? This could’ve been resolved at the latest in early January after the bowl win and weeks after hauling in a historic class if Barnhart would’ve given Marrow a much deserved raise based on his market value.

If we lose Marrow because Barnhart fell asleep at the wheel or took him for granted I don’t give a **** how much good will he has with the comprehensive facility revamp, the hiring of Stoops or the build up of the non revenue sports.. The damage and fall out will be catastrophic and the fans (who, right it wrong, already don’t hold a high opinion of him) will never forgive him.

After fng this thing up by never preventing it from happening to begin with he essentially matches Mich State? NO. You come back higher, you cheapass MilqueToast.

He better save this.

Hard to argue with you Rich. There are moments in time that matter for the long haul, and they aren't always what you think they'd be, so you better be paying attention. On the surface you wouldn't think letting a recruiting coordinator go somewhere else for more money would be a defining moment, but it certainly is here.

If Mitch doesn't see it, and he cheaps out, he's not fit to lead the football program into the future. You think programs like Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, or Oklahoma would just let a guy go over a few hundred thousand dollars when he is essentially the heart and soul of your program's foundation?
HELL NO

This is doubly true when the guy you let go will be directly recruiting against you. Losing Marrow over money would be unforgivable.

Comparing the 2011 team to this one is futile. Each team and circumstance are different. You all know this.

There was a point in 2012 when I knew the Cats were going to peak and be unbeatable. That happened in late January at LSU. I can't remember specifics, but I believe MKG had a bad game and T. Jones stepped up big. Teague managed the game perfectly and hit some shots. At that point I knew that our talent was above anyone else. You could've stopped one guy, but there was another stud ready to pick up the slack.

2015 had those games all year and then began to fizzle in March. I had a bad sense entering into Final 4 Weekend for some reason. They never peaked. Well, maybe that December game vs. UCLA.

2017 was my second favorite Cal team behind the Championship squad. I loved Monk, Fox, and Bam. Such a fun team to watch. Sure, a little inconsistent but those guys were peaking at the SEC tourney and scoring points. The committee absolutely screwed that team, from giving them a 4 seed in Carolina's bracket, to having them face a skilled in-state team in the 1st Round. That team deserved a better seed and every CBB fan deserved for that UNC game to be played in the Final 4. Total ********. That team was just beginning to gel and we were just beginning to love them. Then poof. Gone to the League. That is the part of OAD that hurts the most imo.

Anyway, didn't mean to get all nostalgic. I just think this team will easily be forgotten by us. This season will easily be forgotten by us. This post season will be just as forgettable. And I think we have a team good enough to get to a Final 4 that nobody will remember in 5 years. College Basketball as we know it is in a weird place, fighting for survival.

I don't think those programs would be worried about it. They know they can get someone to come in a do just a good of a job. UK is not in the same situation.

Blaming Barnhart for Marrow potentially leaving is silly. The football program has received everything they wanted for the Stoops era including salary for staff. Thats not an area that they've been cheap or havent invested in.
Shhhh. Don't you know MITCH!! gets blamed for everything bad around here? FAAR MEETCHTOAST.
