Good win. Loved Montgomery’s efforts, of course. Big Nick is a stud. Sestina nice bounce back. Great D.

But how is a team who shoots 79% FT so poor from 3? What the hell?

Nick showing he can do what you're supposed to do with guys like Perry-- Drag them out of the paint and hit jumpers on them all day-- should be a centerpiece of his highlight reel for NBA teams.

Also defended well without fouling and without needing to go for blocks. Just bodied guys, moved his feet, and kept his hands up. The box score is flashy, but how he got there is just as impressive, if not moreso.

Loved the possessions with the zone press.

Hated the possessions in 2-3, but only because it didn't work, so we'll probably never see it again.

Quickley is truly auto at the line. 14-14 tonight, which seems like it should be close to the record for single game makes without a miss?

1-10 from 3. Our offense isn't designed to get those shots, so we don't make them. Simple enough.

There's no way this team will win anything of consequence if this doesn't change.

First possession of zone worked but Hagans simply quit on the play after having position to block out just walked away
Should have been our rebound or over the back foul. It’s at the 5 minute mark go back and watch it - it was pitiful - Cal ripped his ***

-Stumbled on this SI story from 1975 about the Football team, Sonny Collins, a murder, point shaving, etc. Hadn't heard of most of the story, pretty wild.

-EJ had been playing better for a few games and great to see it culminate into his best game. Guy took over for a few minutes and looked like the player we all thought we were getting. Also played great D on one of the toughest players in CBB.

-Nick with 25 pts in the 2nd half. Lolz. Unreal.

-Cal should spend more time ripping Hagans' ***. He was the only on that played down yesterday. Good to see the rest of the guys decide not to allow that to dictate their game. I love the possession he held it out on the elbow for like 17 seconds, passed once to Nick, and got a shot clock violation. Dude is a mess and it's driving me crazy.

-He better have Allen ready. Still 15-18 games possible and with 8 dudes we're bound to have foul trouble. Burning his red shirt for 1 or 2 games would be a ***** but for 1/3 of the season, I'd do it.

-OMGeez, our KENPOM sucks!! He's an iodot!!
*We lost to Evansville. They've lost 10 in a row to awful teams.

- can someone punch EJ in the mouth before every game moving forward? I think tasting his own blood did something.

- Nick Richards is beasting right now. I still don't completely believe it when I see it.

- Bought an RTIC cooler (knockoff Yeti) for beef deliveries. It was still kind of stupid expensive, but they do work better. I am able to expense this one, and it will come in handy for hunting/fishing trips too.

- cooking up a batch of bone broth (waits for dr boat joke), going to see what this stuff is all about

- Bubble Guppies > Team Umi Zoomi

It’s definitely going to be difficult for me to ***** about our seeding this year when we’ve lost to Evansville and Utah. Get what we get this year.
Yep, at least Utah is 12-9 and like 82rd in Net, so possibly a Quad 1 loss by season's end. Evansville is 8-14, 257th in NET, and imagine it would be much lower without our win. Pretty tough to hold Kenny responsible for that outlier.

I just laid some down on CSU ML, I don't know a thing about them except on paper but everything I'm seeing tells me they win. But I'm not a basketball, I do all my BB betting on analytics.

Many of the 3 attempts last night were rushed with the shooter not having been set. We just need Maxey, IQ, and Sestina to shoot in rhythm.

If this is the EJ we get going forward, things look different than they did even a week ago.

But the kid has had huge games before, only to regress. We'll see.

Big three game stretch coming up against teams we're better than. Sweep those, then we're 20-5 (10-2), playing at LSU for what will likely be first place in the league.

Don't miss 'em all.

Kinda tough when Hagans is throwing passes at their knees, when they're not expecting it, behind them, etc. Dude is the most awkward passer I've ever seen. That late pass to Richards was at his ankles while Nick was at full speed running toward Hagans.

Ok, done with the Ashton bashing for the day.

^ and he won't pass it to anyone that's wide open, b/c that's too easy and not very fun or challenging.

Btw, Brooks still on the squad? Obviously, when EJ & Nate play well there is less of a need for him, but man he's fallen off hard..and yes, I know he was sick for a minute.

-Nick gets the lion's share of love, but how damn good is Quickley? Even on a night when his shot was completely broke, the guy crafts his way to 21 pts while icing the game from the line. Worship that kid, what's he averaging in SEC games?

Think Joshie put it best (paraphrasing here) -- he's the most maddening good player we've ever had under Cal. Or worst good player.

Either way, shew wee -- he tests me REGULARLY. He's rarely anything other than great or awful, and that changes minute by minute. We'd be so much better off if he was just flatline pretty good.

"Nick, WTF are you doing ?" Cal was in Nicks ***. it woke him up.

Called IQ being our most consistent guard games ago.

Next few games, Nate should be able to contribute some quality minutes. Some favorable match ups coming.

EJ, just keep progressing big fella. The tweak Cal had for EJ was easy to call. Start him at the elobow, free throw line area, let him work drive and take the little jump hook, or pull the little 15 footer. Keeping him closer to the basket for better shots and better position to rebound.

Maxey and Hagans have got to slow down, let the game come to them, and just make the simple pass. Throw the jar of mustard in the can.

Something that always cracks me up about Mags, talking about the Mookie Bets trade:

"Can you think of any players that were the top two or three players in the sport that were traded? Most good players aren't traded, they're free agents."

Shannon: Anthony Davis?
Matt: Yeah but he was going to be a free agent in a couple months anyway.
Ryan: Westbrook
Matt: Same thing, he was leaving after a few months anyway, I don't count that.

[laughing]

He's the king of adding contingencies after the fact to make sure he's right.

My grandpa used to talk to me all the time about the Frank Robinson trade. Worst Reds trade ever compounded by him winning World Series MVP against them.
