Billy was the best to ever do it, but damn my Grandfather (RIP) hated him as much as it's possible to hate a TV personality. COT DAMN PACKER all/air :joy: If I had to guess, Chad's dad was something similar.

Watching games with he & his buddies, who all drank Bud Heavy with their local bookie booklets in their laps, are among my fondest childhood memories.

No doubt he was an annoying little **** but he knew his stuff, him teaming up with Enberg & McGuire was appointed viewing.

This. Billy Packer on the call and Bobby Knight were the 2 things outside of all things UL that would get the old man all kinds of redassed.

The way it was explained to me at an early age was that “Packer was a Carolina biased *******” and “Bobby Knight was a clinically insane bastard”.

May have been a little much for a father in his 40’s to explain these 2 men to me this way at an adolescent age but his diagnosis was spot on now that I look back.

Remember a story from back in 80's when people would steal feed via their satellite dish, during breaks Packer, dead air to the satellite folks, Packer would cuss at them and call them out, playfully, for pirating the feed. Curmudgeon, crotchety, glory days.
Growing up in NY area, got KY games once in awhile, but before cable, it was St Johns, Syracuse or ND basketball every Saturday. Remember McGuire on more games of those.

Saw Packer in 1998 at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk, just after we had dispatched Stanford and UNC had lost to Utah. He was wearing a blue and white gingham shirt. I said in a very friendly, light-hearted way, "Mr. Packer, I'm glad to see you're wearing Kentucky blue."

He gave me a nasty smirk and turned away. His disgust and obvious hatred of Kentucky were palpable.

My pops hated the kids of ole school announcers.

Joe Buck
Chip Carey
Brian Griese
Sean McDonough
Kenny Albert

He couldn't stand any of them, especially Joe Buck. His only reason was they got their jobs because of their dads.

We laugh but hell we're all heading that direction as well.

Big fan of McDonough about as solid as they come imo. Remember him doing the UK/UT football game after the tragedy from the drunk driving and him chastising UT for running up the score.

I don’t mind being hated as long as these guys are fair and hide their bias when they work.

Every fanbase hated Packer. That’s a good sign, IMO. Sort of like Danielson on the CBS SEC football games.

I mean he is averaging 2.6 ppg 2.8 rbg in 8.2 mpg. Being suspended won't be much different for him.

My old man was a college coach and was too busy breaking down the game to worry about what some idiot journalists and washed-up coaches were blabbing about... but he hated Joe Dean, Sr.

Should have been and one to the Final 4. Instead it was the beginning of the end for Ole Tubby.

Edit: Just pulled up the box score for that game and John Higgins was a ref for that game. Christ.

<-- was at that game in Austin with Sloot. That was so long ago, anth wasn't even in the picture. It was so long ago, she could still drink beer without it hurting her tummy. It was so long ago, I had a full head of hair.

Good times.
Anth was there too.

F that dome. That streak started in the 2nd half of the Cornell game.

Funny thing is this is what got him canned. I think its hilarious but Fancy Pants Nance tried to get him out of it but failed.

That was a pretty good Final 4. Cal (pre fat WOP days) whipped that loaded UCLA team in the first game.
