I *get* why people like Vegas, it's just not my cup of tea. I love gambol, drinking, and legal green. But I'm not a person that likes constant crowds. I'd rather be out in the middle of nowhere without all the hectic goings on. Different strokes. But I definitely get it, and don't hate on people for enjoying it, just not my preference.

^ Yep. Maxey was spectacular late, but we led the entire game. Did we even trail after 2-0? If so, it was only for a possession or two.

Players like to joke that Calipari says about shooting threes "you don't have to make them all... but you can't miss them all!"

My guess is that when they hear that, they think "if I miss this, I'm coming out. Better shot fake and drive into the teeth of the defense instead!"

+1 for Anth.

Will never happen, but a Vegas excursion w/ BBdK would be a bucket list item.

cawood...man up for a change.

Anyone know the older couple that sits behind the visitor bench? She is always on her phone and he never changes expressions.

Cal is not a 3 point guy. He wanted Monk to drive when he hit that 3 to beat UNC when he was on fire. He’s a weirdo on 3s, it sucks, it is what it is. For whatever reason he was fine with us shooting 34 3s in 2010 and also in 2011 and 2012 he ran a really fun and enjoyable offense. It seems like we’ll never play like we did against IU in that tournament game where he just let the team run? I don’t know, it’s confusing. Maybe he’s getting more conservative in age.

I go to Vegas about once a year, gamble quite a bit, and am a moron with credit cards and points and dont really get it. Never even thought to get a rewards card as I didn’t really know what the point was. So I will say thanks to BBDK and cherish that post forever, props.

We have a couple that sits down from us and they never miss a game. Probably late 60's, as white as can be, both wear drab earth tone clothes, she may knit or read, never stand up or make a sound, and leave like clock work, regardless of the game, at the under 4. Up 50 or down 3. Entertaining.

Do we really want THIS team to shoot a lot of 3's ? And I understand that a lot of times the wrong person is shooting the ball, but IQ, Sestina, and Maxey are not exactly torching the nets from 3. For me, when we get everyone healthy the only way I see this team making a leap, would be to use that size and wingspan to trap and pressure. Not the 90 feet full court, but pick up right before half court. Get some steals, easy buckets and into a flow and gain some confidence. The players look like they are thinking too much, need to free their minds and just let them play. But we all know Cal still thinks he has the most talented team no matter the opponent and his way will win, IF the players do what he says. No John, no way it could be your GD system that is failing.

We pass up good 3s and take bad ones. That's the most frustrating part for me.

Nate & Johnny seemingly need 5 feet of clearance before they'll even consider. :uzi: That's coaching.

Yep. This infuriates me as well. Sometimes (rarely) we'll take good transition 3s, but in a halfcourt possession, we almost never take a good three early. Instead of taking the first really good look, we prefer to play around the horn, throw it into a guy who has far lower odds of making a basket with a post move, then kick it back out, panic a little, then either force a drive or shoot a quick three when we aren't set (both of which have lower odds of success than just taking the first good three we get).

UK Athletics Director C. M. Newton - a former basketball coach - described his hire in hoops terms. "I told Hal that what we're looking for here is someone who will press, fast break, and shoot the threes on grass ... I also gave Hal the challenge of putting the fun back into Kentucky football," Newton said.

Imagine if other businesses gave customers **** for not buying their product? Like Marvel saying, "yeah, we kind of mailed it in on this movie, didn't even use CGI and the director was some NY Film student we pulled off the street, but F you for not spending your money and taking two hours out of your life this!"

This is completely solvable:
- Schedule better opponents
- Use improved variable pricing mechanisms, especially when you do play bi-directional state on a mid-November Monday
- Improve the fan experience (pricing, booze, etc.)
- Let students pawn their tickets to whoever they want

It's absolutely obscene to say this, but we'd have a hell of a lot more enjoyable product to watch if Bruce Pearl was coaching. I don't know if we'd win more or less, but we'd certainly have some fun watching. At times it feels like we're coached by Bo Ryan, the only exception is we sprint up the floor and then come to a complete stop.

Nate looks like Coach Stoops is whispering in his ear when he has an open look for 3. Passes up open shots.

I thought Juzang looked ok snagging some contested boards.

We've made 13 3P in 4 games played, which ranks us 337th in triples made. (Per the NCAA, there are 351 total D-1 teams). If we can't open the game up and pad the stats against non-con cupcakes just WTF are we gonna do in dimly lit SEC gymnasiums with a solid scouting report and even fewer possessions? Outside of Quick and Maxey, the rest of the team has made FIVE (5). Terrence Clarke must be psyched.

Another glaring stat is how poorly we share the ball. No one makes the extra pass. We're 261st in total assists. Our late game heroics were due to our "best passer" last night running baseline against a ******** zone because he can't facilitate offense from the top of the key. That's cool. Bum ***'s 1:1 A/TO ratio is also a real hoot. Spacing and timing is so bad it makes you wonder if they ever had played together on the same court before last week.

It's 20-effing-19 and we're playing at a slower pace and tempo than I can ever remember. I'm sure Fatguy or whatever has the KPI's to back that up but I've pulled enough stats for one ****** season already. We need more and more possessions but that ship has sailed with this coach. UNLEASH FAIL FAST POSITIONLESS YADA YADA YADA

K.

Y'all keep shoveling his ****.

When do we get Cal's best version? I just want free flowing basketball that utilizes this team's strengths. Possessions shouldn't be this grueling in November (or ever). What's so hard about this?

FFS and grief.

Juzang seems to have a really mature mindset about coming here, and doesn't seem surprised at all about his lack of early minutes - nor does he really force anything (although i wish he would)

I think he'll be a valuable contributer at some point this season.

I think the only way this team gets good at offense is if we do start shooting more 3's, create rhythm and freedom for our shooters. Sestina, Juzang and Quickley all should pull without hesitation at the first sign of an open look, they should even have the freedom, eh, encouragement to take some bad ones.

Part of the reason our "shooters" are worse when they are here is because they shoot 3's as a last resort. Cal thinks he his helping draft stock by showing that they are more than just shooters, I would say focus on what they are and stop getting them to be something they are not.

If teams thought the three mentioned above plus Maxey had the green light at all times from just about anywhere they would be forced to focus on them more and create more space for Hagans, Brooks, Whitney, etc.

They don't fear or respect our shooters because they know that we only take the widest of open shots, and rarely early in the clock.

^ Yep, and when they move on - they shoot better almost always, despite tougher defense and an extended 3pt line.

Well the whole shoot better in the NBA thing also has a lot to do with the rookies having a more Kyle Wiltjer role on their NBA team. They have no pressure to create offense for other players, play a big defensive role, rebound, etc. Herro for example isn’t really expected to do anything other than score and obviously Butler is the main defender, leader, etc. IMO obviously.

plus Herro missed like 4 wide open 3s against Auburn so he can STFU

I hate writing guys off in November but long term I don't see what Whitney gives you over Juzang or Brooks. Much rather see those minutes being used to get those two confidence because both can score and create. Juzang is going to struggle guarding, who cares? You can just tell as soon as he sees a couple go through.. it's on. Hell he had a couple decent plays and some free throws and he made a great move to get a short range jumper right after that. He completely trucked the help defender but nice to see him be aggressive rather than deer in headlights junk time walk on.

Have you been watching the shots they are taking? PJ is doing between-the-legs stepbacks w/ no fear, as is Herro.

I mean, look at this ****. That's called playing free. Those are the types of shots that we watch opponents nail game after game, that our guys would get the insta-hook for.[/MEDIA]

You say that but then Montgomery, Hagans, Maxey, and Whitney pull without consequence.

I'm talking about our shooters, not touching EJ Montgomery or Whitney.

They're all scared b/c Cal hates 3 pointers. Maxey is a proven good shooter, yet he's denting the glass on half of his attempts. Why do you think that is? It's a combination of being mind-touched by our coach and our joke-of-an-offense having no rhythm or objective of getting SHOOTERS SHOTS.

Ohhh yea, we need Ashton to hit that iso stepback three. Play free, young man.

We need to move our bodies on offense, we need to move the ball, we need to move with a purpose, and look aggressive. Crisp passes. We need zero iso bs because we have nobody who is good enough to do that. We can barely hit wide open threes.

It doesn't even matter. What we're seeing now will be exactly what we do when we're up 3 with 5 minutes left in the sweet 16. It's just going to be ugly bs basketball. Hope we make some FTs, stop our opponents, and drain the clock for a win.

He ain't changing, folks.

It's clear at this point that we aren't going to have a free-flowing, fun to watch, offensive system ("unleashed!") where players are free to make plays without looking over their shoulder in constant fear of being yanked from the game for no apparent reason.

All we can do is accept it, and wait on the next Anthony Davis.

* Sweet tooth discussion....

- if there are sweets in the house, i'm eating them. full stop, if you will.
- one go-to move --> eat large portion of sweets, then go back for a second, smaller portion. like an encore.
- second go-to move --> polish off about half of a family sized portion, then just go ahead and knock the rest out, convincing myself i might as well. the calories are hitting my belly either way, so no sense in prolonging the inevitable.

* I hate to bring up politics, but if you've been following the impeachment proceedings, this guy actually has a great point.

I'm sure some of you candy ***, safe space seeking triggered conservatards will disagree, but the guy is spot on.

* I feel this incredible sense of peace and comfort when I make the quarterly trip to Wal-Mart and spend like $200 loading up on supersized portions of all the basics -- toilet paper, detergent, paper towels, disposable razors, dog bones, etc. Knock it all out, stock up for the season, and waive goodbye to that ******** for a few months.

* Schedule fail: I can't believe we're this deep into the season, we're on something of an emotional high, the offense is clicking......and we get a home game against UT freaking Martin. These guarantee games should be in week 2 or 3.

* The Bengals are 0-10.
