Here's a preliminary list of likely candidates who would be sure fire hires to meet and exceed what Stoops has done:
Who's puling for him to leave? Reasonable to discuss b/c if FSU offers he's gone and the job is more attractive than it's ever been.

And I'm saying I would be "terribly upset" if Stoops leaves. I'm not saying it's stupid to discuss him leaving, because he probably/possibly will. I'm saying, just because we're in a better position than we have been in the past, it still means we're more than likely not going to get a coach that will produce what Stoops has.

I'm not getting amped up at the thought of checking Football Scoop twitter just because we have a big name or two in the running.

So --- about that basketball game tomorrow night....

Hagans gonna steal Winston's fish or nah?

I hope I don't have to photoshop myself on the ***** Bus, but I'm not real confident about tomorrow night. I think we are gong to be right there in March, but I just don't really know what to expect tomorrow.

My biggest worries are interior defense, rebounding and shooting. I want to love Maxey, and will, but I hate the way he just sort of shot puts the ball in the general direction of the basket so far.

The guards have to rebound and Brooks/Whitney have to make up for the testicles that Richards/EJ lack. I still have hope that Richards can provide shot blocking and rebounding, but I'm really down on Montgomery right now.

Neal Brown
Sonny Dykes
Bill Clark
Mike Norvell
Luke Fickell
Jason Candle

That's my realistic* list.

*Norvell would probably prefer Arkansas, actually.

If you want to go the coordinator route, Elko from TAMU is a stud. Venables is probably holding out for a blueblood-type job.

I don’t know what to think. The optimistic side of me could see our three guards harrassing and running wild like that ‘15 beat down of Duke. But I could also see our entire frontcourt no-showing and a 2-19 night from three.

Curious to see if these frosh are gamers, namely Maxey.

I'll wait for Chief's Dallas paint sources to provide some info on Stoops/UK before I get too worked up either way.

UK -3.5... Not so sure about that line... feel like its probably a pick em or a UT -1.5 type of situation. UT's defense is stout.

The Mike Leach fetish some people have is bizarre. Likable guy and all but the current brand of UK football is the only one that can consistently compete in this conference.

We dont really know much about this basketball team aside from the glaring hole that Richards/Montgomery currently represent. I dont know if MSU is truly the top team in the country just yet either but they will rebound, and in particular I worry about them getting easy points on the offensive glass. Will take a hot shooting UK performance to keep it close. MSU -2 is probably a smart play.

A lot of folks will be in Tuscaloosa for the game this weekend. #1 vs #2 (depending on the poll) in the regular season always makes for a hell of an atmosphere. Throwback game week commercial h/t to ESPN... "1...2... Everyones coming for you..."

KRAZY has definitely become the Mike Jones "Back Then" of GYERO.

Jason Witten gonna be the NEXT UK coach, I can almost feel it.

* Nobody will ever hire him away from Duke, because winning the introductory press conference appears to be more important than actual games, but I really wish someone would give David Cutcliffe a shot. He did well (not great, but well) at Ole Miss, and has gone 10-4, 9-4, 8-5, 4-8, 7-6, 8-5 with 3 consecutive bowl wins the last 6 seasons at Duke.

Why so many ADs would put their careers on the shoulders of a 32 year-old "up-and-coming" assistant coach over a proven, solid guy like him, I'll never know.

* Had a great weekend, even though the driving suuuuuucked. To recap....

#1 = accidentally left my home open and it got rented via AirBnb
#2 = the lass absolutely has no wiggle room with her schedule, so our earliest departure was 4:20pm Friday, and she was required to be back at her workplace at 8:30am Monday morning

We made it work, and had a great time.

* Friendly reminder about candy:

two worst flavors = grape, followed by sour apple
two best flavors = watermelon, followed by cherry or strawberry

Pink isn't really a flavor, but that's always gonna be good, too.

* Jeff Ruby's:

- holy f'ing s***. that place is amazing.
- for once, lexington has a true showcase/turbo baller restaurant that will actually succeed (nice try, coba cochina)
- estimate on cost? drxman said $5 million. lol. probably 5x that
- i haven't had a huge steak in forever, and maybe i know why. i thought i was going to throw up all night afterwards saturday
- as with most steakhouses, the food was great/fine. there's a million others that are just as good, but the ambiance and atmosphere was a 10/10

* Not confident at all about tomorrow night, or the season in general. Call me a hater, but we need more grad transfers and less children.

* Got in a good pump with anth Sunday morning at LIFT on National Ave.

* Will be devastated in the short term if Stoops gets hired away, but in the grand scheme of things we can find a silver lining. Seeing a coach have success, then move onto a bigger and better job is a great sign of how solid your program is, and something that hasn't happened since Bear Bryant. Seriously.

* Matt Bevin is a complete dork, d-bag, a-hole, and someone I couldn't stand to be around for more than 3 seconds, who is a total hypocrite weirdo carpetbagger prick........and seems to have done a damn fine job in his first 4 years. Won't personally affect me, but I'll hold my nose and hope he gets re-elected (which he will, by a lot).

* YouTube wormhole --> Drew Binsky. He's a nerd, but is traveling to every country in the world. Quick 2-3 minute videos.

* Lane F'ing Kiffin. Good lord.

Cal said EJ is "out of shape".

Going to be an interesting season. I got zero hopes and dreams, which is why I think this year will go pretty well for me the spectator, not so great for all you Basketball Bennies out there.

Does Ashton wear that stupid Karate Kid headband in games?

Soon as Mark signs the deal I'm buying a damn 'Noles jersey and becoming obnoxious FSU fan in the bluegrass. That was my team in third grade, and I can't wait to support them again. He would quickly have them back in the saddle, scalping mfers and burning their villages down. Big Time SEC in the ACC baby. Get some.

You can't convince me that idiots that hired Taggart are going to hire Stoops over Lane Kiffin. It's Lane fn Kiffin. Dont you know his Daddy?

Well, not "for once"...but if you are referring to the pretentiousness and high dollar decorations, then perhaps.

Incorrect, even though I am not sure what "current brand of UK football" means. Does this brand include the second half collapses in 14, 15, and 17? Or did the brand change last season?

Great line play, solid run game, physical defenses, and mostly excellent special teams play (save for our current PK issues).

That’s how I’d characterize Stoops’ brand of football once he was able to actually establish it here. I enjoy.

Precisely why I think Bill Clark would be a great hire. Built the UAB program from non-existence. Multiple NCOY honors. Defense was 9th nationally overall in total defense, and team was ranked Top 10 nationally in six different categories. Their starting RB has had over 1,300 yards rushing each of the past two seasons.

Not saying he'd be my first call, but he wouldn't be very far down the list.

EJ Montgomery, man. I wanted to go show BRAX I was a good person and go against the Geese Feeder grain. Was feeling optimistic and wanted to withhold my hateful judgement this season until at least December... but it appears it hasn't stopped everyone else.

My issues:

He doesn't keep his pads low. He is long and athletic, I guess. However, he plays painfully stiff and upright. He doesn't provide a good center of gravity when attempting to establish a post presence and gets knocked around like a bowling pin. The only thing 'low' he provides is the ball -- when he swipes through it almost always allows defenders to get their hands on it.

If Cal said he's not in shape? Lordy. Given his issues above, one of the main ways for him to stay on the floor is to run the break and fill the lanes. Hagans is going to give us a lot of points of off turnovers and what better way to contribute than trailing the play and cleaning up the mess? Can't do that if you're sucking wind. Jesus H - help yourself out, kid.

I don't blame Cal. EJ strikes me as a dude who expected to dominate his freshman year and be in the NBA right now. I assume he's pouting about his situation - not working as hard as he should - and Cal may not think he's worth the effort.

I'm already tired of the talking heads saying EJ needs to make a leap like PJ. Even if he made an equivalent leap, he wouldn't be close to as good as PJ was last year. EJ just isn't nearly as good, never has been, and won't be. I'd love him to make that size leap in order to become competent, but the underlying insinuation from these guys that he should essentially replace PJ's production is lazy, stupid, and I'm not sure they've watched either of them play more than a handful of times.

In the famous Ashton Hagans clip from high school where the announcer goes crazy he is dunking on EJs head, that should have been a sign that EJ was a bit of a bum since I haven't seen Hagans do that in college yet.
