Any of you all experienced what you would describe as a “mid-life crisis?” Serious responses only.

I’m going on 42, a lot of you are a bit older, so thought I’d ask the group.

Feel like I’ve been in a funk the past year or two. Kind of just a malaise.

What’s the solution? Buy a sports car? Kill a hooker?
Used to be travel but the outright shittiness of US Air Travel and skyrocketing costs of all travel has cut out that avenue.

Alcohol, lots of it I guess. And the realization that rooting for sports teams ends in disappointment 99.5% of the time so what's the point of anything anymore.

Yeah, at that time I'm not sure what you're expecting out of his agent. Dude was ******* disaster. Other than a terrible haircut, I'm not sure what else he could've done. Granted, Chad hates white guys.

I think I have been in one for the past 25 years. Once you realize nothing matters and you’ll be completely forgotten within 3 generations it’s hard to recover. Good luck!

I’ve learned so much good and interesting music from this thread over the years. Still remember the post sometime in 2015, forget who it was by, hey have you heard this “metamodern sounds in country music.” Well no, I hadn’t.

In any event, this INXS discussion threw me for a loop today. I had never known, or even heard, anything about them other than that one video, more than words? But then i heard people whose musical opinions I respect saying they are truly good. So, I will check out some of these top fives this weekend.

Might just be a generational thing? You all are mostly a few years older and have a good remembrance of the 80’s. I don’t. I was 9 in 1990, and just have no memories of that time, really, other than that I would ride my bike in circles in the driveway for hours at a time. REM was irrelevant to me, just missed that period.

Nevermind came out right when I was really “getting” music. That was some timing.

I’m a little younger than you but that’s basically been me for the past year. Have had absolutely nothing to do at work basically and just been cashing checks.

Lost 38 pounds (almost not #FAT now), take 3x weekly Spanish lessons and now can have moderate convos in it and watch Univision nightly, have been to more Reds games than any season in my life, bought tickets to see Taylor Swift in Europe next summer.

Basically what I’m saying is just go spend your money like there’s no tomorrow because there may not be.

When I arrived at UK in the summer of ‘89, you couldn’t drive past any frat/apartment/outdoor dining area without hearing REM. It was crazy. It was THE “college band” at the time. I wasn’t a huge fan, but they grew on me. Like them a lot better now than I did then. Great musicians.

Lurker/Ft Thomas lawyer here. A bit older than you. Exercise and finding a new shop was the key.

Finally had a friend in Lahaina get ahold of us yesterday. They lost their house and entire neighborhood but they’re good. Those fires are something else.

Heavily considered Hawaii when I moved out of KW, but one of the big reasons it was a no was the travel obviously and the fact of something like this(or a Hurricane) happens you can’t just drive away from it.

One of my favorite thoughts that goes through my head is when I see my beautiful 6 year old experiencing something new and fun for the first time. You see her eyes light up and you can tell she’s thinking “how awesome, this is the beginning of a wonderful journey that will only get better”. Meanwhile I know, like a heroin junkie, this is as good as it’s going to get. Happy Thursday!

Figured rogue would have some tough guy story about riding it out, having wildfire parties, and taunting the pussies who bailed to protect their families.

**** is heartbreaking.

JCPS (leadership) is, and long has been, a joke. I’m sure Chris Kolb will get everything in line asap.

One day you're going to walk her down the aisle to the man of her dreams. Her eyes will light up and the same thoughts will be racing through her head. Then she'll look at you, thank you for all you've done, kiss you goodbye and say I love you.

Then you'll go sit with your wife, hold her hand and watch your little girl live the happiest day of her life, until she of course has little ones of her own. And you'll be thinking to yourself, "Does it get any better than this?"

What the hell is going on in Louisville schools?
So, this is what I've been told from my JCPS employed wife.

First of all, they had a significant shortage of bus drivers in JCPS.

It was decided to pay an outside consulting firm thousands of dollars to construct new bus routes to help deal with the issue.

It was announced within a couple of weeks before the start of school, that the existing drivers would now have to take on staggered bus routes covering much of their day. Since a large portion of these drivers had other jobs during the middle of the day, they informed JCPS to GFY and would no longer be driving for them.

Then comes yesterday and the predictable cluster.

If only they had the entire summer to plan for this.

As for the Superintendent, my understanding is that his raise was based on meeting the salary of the superintendents in the surrounding counties. Perhaps if you dipshits should have determined this while attempting to LURE a Superintendent to the biggest district in the state, you might have gotten someone worth a damn.

Louisville based Facebook right now is hot as a firecracker. I get it.. but shouldn't they be used to JCPS canceling school?

I kid, I kid.

Enjoy your off day, Vern.

-youngest got her DL yesterday. She's walking on air. She's giddy, we're happy cause she can drive herself to activities and such....also sad that she can drive herself to activities and such.

^time flies, gang.

-re:mid-life. Say yes to every new experience...so long as it's not destructive. Travel as much as you can afford to travel. Use your down time wisely on stuff *you* love... for me that's music /sports/outdoors. Accentuate the positive, appreciate the little stuff.

-embrace the concept of "working to live", not living to work.

FCPS probably unhappy with all the attention JCPS getting (even thought it’s negative)..so FCPS probably plotting their next stupid move for attention. Those two are one and the same…same model, same leadership ideas, same pathetic results.

Most of the issues right now are due to “employees” being in power because no one can find workers right now. People love to ***** and moan about their boss, large corporations, etc but they are at least typically led by competent hardworking people that give a ****, while 80% of employees are bare minimum morons. This is what happens when the employees get the power.

FCPS has it's own problems but the MAIN issue is Louisville holding on to bussing. At least in FC the kid goes to the school closest to his house. This has been a Louisville issue since my Dad was in school. It's why the Catholic Schools are so plentiful.

That and they lost A TON of employees while the Govenor, Unions, and the School Board decided to shut schools down for nearly 2 school years. So they haven't been able to replace them.

What is the main reason for the shortage of bus drivers?

Well in a nutshell, bus drivers are lacking everywhere. Currently bus drivers make $22 an hour and it still isn’t worth the issues.

People think kids are a problem, but not if you are an adult and set standards usually.

The people in control are just uninvolved idiots making decisions from the outside looking in meanwhile the people they affect all see the fail coming and are just getting out of the way instead of standing up.

IMO, it starts with the bussing system and snowballs from there with lots of terrible decisions.

Charter schools are coming eventually.
