I hadn't seen anything in the theater since Joker, and before that, Logan. I enjoyed the hell out of Maverick because it didn't take itself ultra seriously and wasn't 85% CGI. Movies in the TV serial drama age just aren't what they were before, by and large, and it's tough to justify $30 just on tickets to see something that looks like a big pile of meh when I could watch it for free on my couch in 60 days.
I would feel differently if I were into Marvel, probably, but I lost interest after the first Thor. With notable exceptions, I just prefer the slower burn and character development of serial TV shows like Better Call Saul over whatever dreck starring the Rock is releasing every other month.
I watched A Few Good Men last night and observed two alarming things:
a) It's jarring how boxy all the cars were as "recently" as 1992. I realized how "recent" that really is and thought about purchasing gingko biloba.
b) I really wish I hadn't read that Cruise modeled his character's style on David Miscavige.
