Good luck Llama. I’m on about day 45 with my dad but the end is in sight. About 20 days in the hospital and now about 25 in rehab.

- I wouldn’t wish dementia on anybody. Lady we know across the hall from my dad has it and it is really sad.

Mattingly and Strawberry were supposed to be the cornerstones of that 84 Topps set of baseball cards, though I think that was the height of overproduction. Brady can weigh in on whether I need to look for that shoebox (I'll assume not), but I recall the rookie hype being real for both of those guys.

Well my wife has fallen in love with a house that just went on the market and we've got a showing tomorrow afternoon. They started showing it this afternoon so I'm hoping it sells today. Apparently the market is so hot, you can't even do a contingency contract any more so if we make an offer, I'll have to immediately get my house cleaned up to put on the market before the impending housing collapse and inevitable recession.

FML. Cheaper than divorce, I guess.

Anyone else bought and sold a house in the last six months? I'm trying to see what to expect.
Hank, sorry to necro-post this long response, but wanted to share my experience. Sold my house in February and purchased a bigger house a few days after mine sold. Wife and I were looking around Nov 2021 to Jan 2022, and I realized we were just wasting everyone's time if we didn't have our house on the market. Fixed it up, decluttered, and put the house on the market on a Thursday, but closed down showings on Saturday night at 8pm and told everyone interested to get your bids in by that time, and we will consider them. Received 8 offers, chose the highest one ($25K over asking price).

Nice, but then reality sets in:
Yay! I sold my house!....
Oh ****! I sold my house! What have I done?

We looked at a house the very next day that was a little above what we wanted to pay, but fell in love with it and because the market near the higher end is less competitive, we were able to buy the house for their asking price (they also put the house on the market on a Monday with snow on the ground, and we were able to get it under contract before any other buyers even had a chance to look. Don't do that!). The house actually appraised for $25K over our purchase price, so I felt we did pretty well despite the current market.

Several snags, our first buyer pulled out, but we re-contacted the other 7 bidders and one of them upped his bid and we accepted his bid of $20K over asking price. Also, somehow, the title on the home we were selling was defective (multiple prior purchasers and this was never found, but we got the Sherlock Holmes of title searchers apparently), but thank God I had title insurance, so it didn't screw up everything we had worked to achieve.

Closed 3/21 on the house we were selling with 15 days post-occupancy. Closed on our new house 3/31, and had 5 days to get everything moved.

Glad it's effing done, and glad we did it. We love our new house. Throughout, we had to just suck up all the doubt and all the uncertainty and lay that aside to get to where we wanted to go.

- The Who returning to Cincinnati this summer for the first time since their 1977 show at Riverfront Coliseum resulted in 11 being trampled to death. Changed concert guidelines forever.
Roger Daltry and his backup band opened for Clapton at Riverbend 12 years ago. Daltry was excellent, but Clapton just went through the motions for maybe 70 minutes and was done.

@HUBER how good is that taco truck just down from Local's? I drive past it almost every night, and I rarely see anyone there. But on Cinco de Mayo, they had about 40 people in line.

There’s no mystery here. It’s more likely that the title searcher was a new guy that hadn’t learned that he wasn’t supposed to perform any actual work. Residential title BS seems like one of the all-time rackets, IMO.

It's even worse than that, it's a way to line the pockets of attorneys selling title insurance from fly by night insurance companies that change names every four years so, when you actually need it, they don't have to pay it.

Freaking scam.

Ha! That’s cool. I’m a lawyer and do a fair amount of title work and actually take some pride in my work. Way I see it you’re paying me to find the problems. Don’t sell a whole lot of title insurance but do sign my name to a lot of title opinions so if I mess up it’s my butt on the line. Sorry for trying to, you know, do my job.

Title opinion != title insurance. I wasn't directing my ire at you or your ilk directly. Work with a lot of clients who have had to deal with stupid situations like a will contestation where some hilljack conjures a quitclaim deed from 30 years ago and then we have to hope the title insurance comes through.

You doing your job and making sure there aren't potential conflicts keeps my business afloat, so appreciate your hard work.

the left never fails to disappoint.
I'm sure this is how your mother feels about you, too.

* Kyle Tucker's article on Thiero makes it clear why Cal took a flyer on the kid. The kid grew 10 inches in high school and probably isn't done growing. His dad is 6'9 and his mom is 6'4. It isn't unreasonable to think the kid ends up 6'7+.

* The New York Times has a front page story today on the boom of Brazilian butt lifts in recent years. This is the best thing since yoga pants. What a time to be alive.

Friday randoms:

- The Will Levis hype is legit. I was kind of hoping my Steelers would hold off a year on a QB and try and grab him in next year's draft. We all know he's a bit rough around the edges with his processing/anticipation and he can struggle at times with accuracy, but man he's fearless. Some guys just have that "it" factor on third down or when the game is on the line where they'll just find a way to get it done. He's got it. Can't wait to see how he does this year. I mean...

- What was the worst name change for a musician? Ol’ Dirty Bastard going to the uninspired Dirt McGirt or The Artist Formerly Known As Prince (arguably the greatest name change ever) deciding to change his name again to a symbol of a trumpet with a boner or whatever that was? Many other contenders for sure, but those standout for me. Ol’ Dirty at one point went with Knifey McStab, which is a little, well, on the nose, but it does have a certain playful charm to it that I dig. Does Chris Gaines count? WTF was that all about, Garth?

- Has Mitch Barnhart ever said the word "*****" in his life? Even on a dare? I'd put the odds at 20-1. Hard a trust a man that literally and figuratively won't let that top button free.

- May is the best month of the year, right? Is that even debatable? The next couple of weeks here in Cincy are looking to be absolutely fantastic. Breathe it in. Month rankings: 1. May 2. June 3. April 4. July 5. October. Most overrated? March. Most underrated? November. Most improved? Uh, December. Sportsmanship Award? February.

- I Think You Should Leave got renewed on Netflix for season 3. Best sketch comedy show in a long time. Definitely recommend.

I'm as a big of a Norm fan as it gets...he didn't get canceled.

His comedy is incredible, but 90% of the regular Netflix viewers don't "get it."

I think people will in the coming years though. Kind of like Mitch Headberg, he'll become the "have you heard this guy before?"
His serial killer bit with Jan is fantastic. Not sure I've laughed harder at a bit.

Norm MacDonald's, "Me Doing Standup" is an all-timer.

I can’t fathom being this tied up in knots about politics. Imagine being someone that has a vast majority of their personal identity tied up in a system that doesn’t give a single solitary f*ck if they are alive or dead. It seems like a miserable way to go through life.

Sort of like posting on a Kentucky message board for decades despite being a professed North Carolina fan.

Wait there are people who don’t watch “I Think You Should Leave”?

No wonder this world is a mess.

As for me and my house…

-Last I saw 80 was being restrained from a room full of red meat by sturdy plexiglass.

-Made it 2 years but got covid earlier this week. Day 6 but still testing positive. Been an interesting experience: coughing, congestion, no taste/smell, a lot of fatigue. I mean I look like complete **** - complexion is off, massive bags and dark circles under my eyes, haven't really exercised. Ready to be done with this mess.

-If I had to live in Lexington I would "overpay" to be in Chevy Chase. No brainer. Left graduation day, though. Another no brainer.

-Was feeding some plants the other night and was barehanding granulated manure before I realized what I was doing. Like errantly reading a chief post.

-UofL fan had convinced themselves that Satterdays was THE MAN again until Jeff Brohm's latest comments. I really appreciated him doing that and sending those idiots over the edge again.

-Food is really bizarre without your senses. I would really hate to miss summer cuisine if this **** persists.

-Righteous Gemstones is okay. Entertaining enough, I guess. Not enough Danny McBride if I could make one complaint.

-Lou City against Nashville in the US Open Sweet 16 either the 24th or 25th at LFS. Will be dope.

-Red Stripe is my preferred summer lager.

- Sorry SAE, I won't believe you have COVID until you make the required social media post announcing it and expressing your gratitude for the vaccine.

- I like the Thiero pickup. You need that kind of kid in your program. Spot minutes, then 6-8 backup minutes, then valuable contributor off the bench by junior year. And yes, I know it's a pipe dream for a non-AA to stick around at Kentucky for more than a year or two, but maybe this kid will be different, his dad having played for Cal and all.

- Luka vs. Booker is the one-on-one playoff animosity we needed.

- Three game sevens in the NHL tomorrow. I'll watch a Game Seven in any sport.

- I know nobody cares about NFLsucka, but the social media departments for the various teams knocked it out of the park through the goal posts with their schedule release posts.

- Dad gets out of the hospital today, pending a negative COVID test. He wants to go straight to Waffle House, but I think it would be best to go straight to the assisted living facility. No need to make things worse right off the bat.

Any updates from NOLA? I need to know who skipped out on reservations, who was not happy with tapas order, and who left before the check arrived.
B.money left dinner early, I dropped beef marrow in my lap ruining my pants, we all had a hand grenade except for Sloot, Docboat's flight got delayed and he spent the night in Baltimore missing an awesome steak dinner, Razoos was lively, people just smoke weed wherever down here, and it's hotter than two rats focking in a wool sock.

Thank goodness you've had the shots and boosters.
