Those sick morons who stormed the Capitol should spend life in prison. I also that believe that the act of anyone... black, white, Indian, or from Mars, that destroys public or private property like the riots that took place this past summer is disgusting and hideous.

A-touching-men.

Spot on. The extremists on both sides are ********.

I love all these people talking about how there would have been more police/military presence had that been a BLM/Antifa rally in DC.

No **** you morons. Did you see the trail of destruction left by them last year? They think they are making a point by stating the obvious.

By that logic, they should have expected what happened Thursday based on what we saw in Charlottesville.

But we didn't. And we know why.

It's not a scoreboard. Nothing that has ever happened in the past makes what happened Thursday acceptable. They're all individual cases, and they're all wrong.

There's some nuance here. We've seen local governments and political leaders that have excused violence, disruption, destruction and insurrection for the last 8 months. The people who broke into the capitol, they saw this and assumed it was an acceptable response. It's why you can't allow the lawlessness of this summer to occur. It spreads.

And I will reiterate that I was 100% against what happened last week including Trump's role in it. But Kamala Harris was bailing criminals out of jail this summer so they could go riot again. And it was cheered on.

Not really. That wasn't a Trump rally per se. As I recall it was called Unite the Right and was there to protest the tearing down of a statue/s. It also had just as many Antifa there as extreme right wing. Very explosive situation. Apples/Oranges IMO.

At the end of the day, Maxine and her committee(which has oversight) had an hour long call with the head of the Capitol Police and apparently approved of what she heard as far as their preparations were concerned. Had they requested the National Guard I'm sure it would have been there.

The looting last summer has no relevance whatsoever to what happened on Wednesday. I get tired of people who can’t “condemn” obvious wrongdoing without trying to explain it with some “they did it first” bs.
No **** man. We are talking police preparation though.

You may be right. I am skeptical of that because I never saw anyone who did not denounce the violence and destruction this summer. If there was, they are not to be taken seriously and have no business in government. We should all be forcefully calling out the extremists on both sides.

I'm just so exhausted from our "Butwhatabout..." culture.

Going back and forth with Willy as to why I question it, and the timelines that made no sense to me as to the obvious person it was portrayed to be.
At first I thought it was who it looked like, but then how is Yoda a baby? Time travel in the Star Wars universe could open up a lot of possibilities.

Completely agree but I'd like to see what you saw. I certainly didn't see very many condemnations of what happened last year at the time.

I personally think the Democrats love having their own private army of attack dogs like Antifa/BLM.

Some of them, for sure. I think both sides need to distance themselves from the lunatic fringes. Most people in this country reside in a middle 60% (or so) that wants some common ground.

I wish there was a way to condemn the rioting and looting that occurred at some of the protests this summer, and to want those who participated arrested, and held accountable while still recognizing that many of them were peaceful and having a discussion about the real problems that led to protests in the first place. It seems like neither side is very good at having a nuanced discussion, and neither side feels like they can try to do it because it's giving ground. And I include myself in that 100%.

"Whataboutism" is a statement to dismiss a logical argument that counteracts something you said or believe.

Person A: Like OMG, they're invading the capitol. There's no place for this. Shut these people down!!!!
Person B: Uh, you have been on this site all summer screaming "burn baby burn" in regards to police precincts and downtows
Person A: I'm not going to engage in whataboutism!!!!!

Some Biden staffers tweeted about supporting and raising money for arrested protesters/rioters during the summer riots, specifically the Minneapolis riots. The Biden campaign did not go that far, but tweeted they understood the anger of rioters but that violence is not the answer.
Kamala's campaign tweeted urged support for raising money for Minneapolis protesters bail/and or legal fees.
