-Dad got to experience BRM in all it's glory. I remember 1990 as a 9 year old, but TRUST ME, there's nothing to be jealous of. Too bad he didn't latch on the StL Cards b/c of the Redbirds or Yankees like my Grandfather. Basically anyone else. FFS.

-New Kids on the Block 😂 Oh well.

-Lol, at KLs Kraken stuff. That slayed me.

-Don't miss concerts much but do miss a live band at Ruby's or on stage while I'm drinking draft beer in a random city waiting for the Cats to play.

First - Michael Jackson Freedom Hall 1988

Best - Metallica/GNR Arrowhead 1992

This video may be the Bo Jackson/Gale Sayers of rock videos. Five dudes all throwing heat. At their peak for a fleeting moment. Have posted it 10 times before. Will probably post it 10 more times in the future. Man, this was a great ******* time to be alive.

Saw Kanye summer 2002 in Nashville on the riverfront auditorium when they did those Thursday night live shows for up and coming acts. AWFUL.

He didn't have any of his own real music at the time, just had a produced a bunch of ****. Basically bounced around stage mumbling background lyrics to songs he produced. About like he is now, I guess...

It’s been said before but most hip hop acts suck live.

Saw De La Soul in a college gym and they were good but I was also like 20 and an idiot.

One time I saw Soul II Soul, C & C Music Factory, and Snap at Timberwolf Amphitheatre at Kings Island.

Halfway through Soul II Soul's set they asked everyone to sit down, and proceeded with a 15-minute long African fashion show.

I didn't want to get up to go to the restroom or get popcorn or whatever for fear of being immediately labeled as racist or disrespectful, so I just sat there and nodded approvingly of the outfits. Nothing like observing early-90's African fashion trends while people are screaming on King Cobra in the background.

Then the fashion show ended and the concert resumed.

That was something.

I didn't think you could top Bell Biv Devoe 3x in a six week span, but this is my favorite story you've ever told.

1st - Bob Seger, Rupp Arena 1980

Best - Prince, Rupp Arena 1997

HM - The Black Crowes, Headliners in Louisville, 2005. They reunited and played this hole in the wall joint under another name. Got to stand 5 feet from the stage. It was amazing to see someone like that in such a setting.

I believe I was there the same day. Was it a church youth group day or something? Anyway, friend and I bought tickets, then realized we only liked one song by any of them and sold the tickets to someone at the park.

First concert: Ronnie Milsap at Rupp. Not sure why my parents took a 5 year old to a Ronnie Milsap concert, but it must’ve been a hit because I also went to the Conway Twitty concert 10 months later.

Best: Black Crowes and Widespread Panic at Forecastle (or whatever festival that was in Louisville). Not that the music was that good, but @SAECATFAN's brother and I snuck in backstage when Widespread was on. So we were just standing there drinking free LBC cold beers with the Black Crowes. I told SAE's brother if we just stand here and act cool we can do this all night. So sure enough, he starts wondering around drawing the eye of security and we get kicked out, but to the MVP section. Still a great overall night.

Saw Public Enemy at Louisville Gardens ~1990. They were amazing. But there were a couple of opening acts that were terrible. One I actually liked their studio stuff but they had all kinds of sound/tech issues, and it was painful to sit through. Having trouble remember who it was. Maybe EPMD.

First-Ninja Turtles Coming Out Their Shells at Starwood.

Best-Old Crow Medicine Show NYE a couple of years ago at the Ryman. They brought out Emmy Lou Harris to do The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Brought the house down.

Highlight: Everclear, SpaceHog and Tracy Bonham. 14 years old, standing up front and some dude in a Hawaiian shirt passes me a huge joint and that’s how I got high for the first time.

Huey Lewis - 86/87 at Freedom Hall in Johnson City. Robert Cray opened and 10 yr old Justa was hooked. Seen Cray about a dozen times now, he made a lifelong fan.

Saw a bunch of county shows as a tot but don't remember them, pops was a big George Jones fan so I vaguely remember going to a few of those.

also saw a ish-ton of NWA shows (84-88) in Freedom Hall, G'boro Coliseum and Roanoke Civic Center.

judges in the plural? Who else got the golden ticket?

Personally I was sitting over here already excited for the gym selfies and the purple keeneland button down selfies when mattox is up for the SC in 2045
I thought someone got the nod out in Western KY, but I may be remembering wrong. Still mad I haven't had the chance to appear in Mattox's courtroom.

Random wondering - did anyone in here get Covid?

I know two guys who did. One of the “coloured fellas” who came with me to the tebow knockout gator gumbo at the tailgate van game got it working at the hospital, as did one of my wife’s coworkers.

both mid 30s and not exactly super active PTI ultra marathoner Anth Tour de France trainees but not unhealthy either. Rob is good and just spent two weeks living in an RV in his driveway with flu like symptoms, but the other guy still can’t climb stairs without stopping at the top sucking wind 5 months later.

the range in experiences is wild.

On big shows at small venues, I saw Haggard at Coyotes in Louisville.

Saw Yoakam w/ my dad there, was awesome of course.

First concert was Chicago & The Beach Boys at Roberts Stadium, lmao. Favorite was probably Outkast @ Bogart's.

Not sure I've ever had a bad time at a concert, even ****** new country ones are fun w/ a date or a group.

if you do and he doesn’t rule in your favour, tell him your Canadian GYERO friend will come take him up on his open ended offer to wrestle in the purple lot once the border re opens.

First concert I ever saw was canada day 1993, a few months before I turned 10.

Most Canadian lineup ever and I didn’t know any of the bands at the time. I was excited to see naked women on stage and was sorely disappointed by a bunch of doughy white guys

My first was also likely my best, GNR/Metallica at the Citrus Bowl 92' with Faith No more opening (IIRC). Only downside was Metallica didn't close. Axl didn't lose his ish, either, so take your blessings where they fall. I was 7 and the world was a different place.

The Mars Volta in 2008 at Asheville Civic Center is a close second. Thomas Pridgen was on fire that night.

@Pretzelsloot I'd give anything to see damn near anyone at Wacken Open Air. The setting/environment, especially as a metal head, is everything I would want from a venue/concert. Thinking Gojira would be especially fun. Unlikely to ever happen again in that capacity thanks to COVID.

Probably north of 150+ shows in my lifetime of which 60+ in the last 7-8 yrs. Have seen everyone from Bruce to Yo-Yo Ma and all genres in between.

~Bruce approx 20 times or so
~Garth, Seger, Strait, Eagles, Urban, WHO, Chicago, REO and a slew of others multiple times.

Wow moments....first row for Prince at Louisville Palace, Eagles at ATT Stadium, Bruce at Wrigley, U2 in T Mobile, Elton at Caesars.

Worst venue for music...Rupp.
Best venue regardless of where you sit...MSG.

Concerts better get back in gear next year.

True, but Nelly with the St Lunatics in STL back in their heyday was really dope, actually.

And the Puff Puff Pass tour at Rupp a couple of years ago with Too Short, Warren G, Bone Thugs and Snoop was spectacular start to finish.

First concert was The Beach Boys with a bunch of olds when I was in middle school on a family beach vacay.

Best by far for me was Paul McCartney at Rupp last year.

In related news, I've started to listen to Stapleton/Childers more and can see the allure. I think Stapleton sings from passion, Childers from pain and Simpson for fun. It's an interesting/eclectic mix, for sure. Much like Mr. Rogers told us to love our neighbors, Steve Irwin taught us to love nature and Bob Ross taught us to love ourselves, the triumvirate of Country singers are teaching me a thing about good modern country music.

I think I've listened to "Shore" by Fleet Foxes 25 times in the past 7 days. Robin Pecknold has impeccable vocal capabilities. Helplessness Blues was my album of the 2010's.

16 year old btodd had a VW bug with suicide doors and a buddy who’s dad ran a strip mine so had access to all the free gas we could use. Went to every concert within a days drive. Saw about every concert around but the best we’re Pink Floyd, Yes, The Who and The Rolling Stones. The weirdest was Sly and the Family Stone. Sly played for about 30 minutes until the heroin made him fall down and had to be escorted off the stage.
Of course that’s when they had all the Summer Jams with lots of bands playing the venues.
Went twice to Muscle Shoals not for CDB or the country but Papa Joe Creech, Muddy Waters, etc. Those old guys could flat out play the blues!
Also saw Stevie Nicks solo performance at Park West in Chicago at a private 300 person performance. Still have a ton of old stubs and concert t-shirts and a Kiss Army Jean jacket [laughing]

I won tickets to my first show for doing a Clint Eastwood impression for Uncle Ron Clay on his morning show. Winger was the headliner and Extreme opened. I was 14 or 15 at the time and pretty sheltered, my parents didnt want to let me go but my older brother stepped in and offered to take me.

Needless to say my mind was blown. I caught the concert bug and started going to just about every show I could, many of which I won tickets off the radio for.

Coolest show- NIN, Marilyn Manson, Jim Rose Circus 94' at Louisville Gardens. Got accosted by protesters and Hare Krishna out front. Guy in our group got his Krishna bible signed by Manson. His inscription was "I am the God of F***"

Wildest show- The Bloodhound Gang at Bogarts. The bass player chugged an entire bottle of Jagermeister then immediately puked it up all over Jimmy Pop. They offered a guy 100 bucks to get up on stage and strip then when he did they called for security to come tackle him...which they did.
