Ahh yes, architects for the working class. People who design buildings that everyone can enjoy. What with their honest materials and focus on human scale. Just like this

- Local unions/guilds are a good thing, by and large. National unions and government unions need to be eradicated.

The ideal Cal staff is:

1. Cal guy who he trusts with everything.
2. Dogged young recruiter
3. Former player who can relate to the kids

So if Barbee/Justus both take HC jobs in the next year or so, I'd roll with....

1. Bruiser (I mean, he's here now, marcus)
2. Either of the dudes I mentioned yesterday (Abdelmassih/Maligi)
3. Pipe dream home run hire....Jalen Rose. But Kerry Kittles, who played for Cal in the NBA and has gotten into coaching, might be a nice fit too.

Got the cops called on our run group on Thursday, We used to meet at Second Line Brewery, which is now only open for retail/carry out.

So we moved the after party all the way over from their patio to the grassy area just next to the patio.

Police show up and we’re still crushing beers an hour after they’ve closed.

“Is anyone here associated with this brewery?”
“Nope.”
“Nobody?”
“Nope. Just bought beer and sitting here drinking outside.”
“Uhhhh...okay. Just, like. Keep your masks in and sit 6 feet apart, or whatever.”

Not only did they not give a flying F, you could clearly see the disdain on their faces for having to engage in this type of bs. What a terrible job for a grown *** man carrying a weapon.

Andy and the teacher’s union never had the intention of sending kids to school and they won’t go in September, either. The writing was on the wall the day he started citing positive children tests from Texas.

School is the same as college sports. As long as we are looking at positive cases as a barometer and testing the hell out of everyone none of these things are happening outside (a) a vaccine or (b) a proven treatment that everyone agrees is effective. Because we aren’t waiting out a virus that spread from one person bit by a bat around the entire world in 5 months just by holding our breath for 30 days (or longer).

The song and dance all summer about starting school dates and procedures for in person classes, surveying the parents, etc. was all window dressing. They should have just come out and said it months ago...it would have pissed people off but at least given them time to prepare.

Hopefully wcc doesn’t come scold me for this post but this has been frustrating for parents to say the least. I’ll acknowledge that decisions aren’t easy but the timeline and logic has been maddening.

I agree with you and sincerely apologize for the one time in 17 years of GYERO anyone has given you any ****.

What an idiot. Let's see what happens to colleges' bottom lines after a year without football.

Pretty sure sportswriters have replaced those other professions as the new heroes of this great country, Brax. Think of how many lives Dan Wolken has saved in the last 5 months and he’s still out there fighting the good fight. If he can’t get a Pulitzer, he’ll get a statue . . . somewhere . . . by damn.
Sanitation workers are the real f-ing heroes here. My trash day hasn't been missed once since the pandemic started and they are exposed to way more than anyone else.

- Is this the beginning of the end for Cal, or are we already towards the middle of the end? At this point does he even entertain looking for the right coach or does he just text a buddy in a lesser situation? Do we still have a ***** bus even if we dont have sports?

Meh. There's been a hangover since 2015 to some extent. A bit of time off and some staff movement might be exactly what Cal needs to get his mojo back.

They aren't being "blamed for shutting down the sport" like it's some kind of undeserved finger-pointing. They ACTUALLY TRIED TO SHUT DOWN THE SPORT. Presidents and legal ******** (which, sorry GYERO, are the biggest problem with EARTH), took it upon themselves without as much as notifying their own coaches and players- and now they've really stepped in it.

Eff outta here Big 10. Nerd ***.

Why do folks keep trotting out this spring football narrative? Look at how clumsily the Power5 have handled the upcoming season that has been in their windshield for five months. It's just a comment to kick the can down the road and try to pacify pissed off fans.

Plus college basketball will be in full stride. NFL playoffs reaching a boil and the NBA and NHL pushing off from shore as well. Logistically you'd have to schedule around the tv aspect of that because without the networks, no point in playing $$.

Then you have the NFL draft already slated for April 29th and the combine about a month earlier? So the season and bowl games would have to be wrapped up before then to give the players the chance to showcase their talent. And I highly doubt the NFL is going to rearrange their schedule just to appease the NC2A's hastily thrown together season. And any player with a chance to get drafted does what, not play? Really no off-season to recover from an injury and be on the mend by the time the commissioner takes the podium.

And if all of that magically came together, for those that don't go pro, they'll have about 3 months before they have to report back on campus for the '21 season. Doubt a small recovery window would take a toll on the body.

With all that going on and the organizational skills that have been on display so far from these AD's, no doubt at all spring football will go off without a hitch!

It'll take an enormous set of cojones for the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 to play, but man, I can't imagine the fallout if they pull it off without any major issues.

I can’t imagine anyone plays. This is just the start of a major facelift for amateur athletics imo.

Also, the trickle down effect of this will impact high schools. If you want to excel in a sport, it’s time to join a club or a separate self-governing association and play through them. I’m not even sure the future of athletics for 13-22 year olds has even been written yet.

Other avenues (like AAU, Elite camps, some that haven’t even been dreamed up yet) are about to be the future of amateur athletics, rendering high schools and colleges powerless. And broke.

This is what it currently says. I mean, who the f*ck knows? I'm sure we'll move the goalposts again so reasonable people can't be allowed to go to a beach and use the same precautions that they use in Kentucky.

On July 20, 2020 the Kentucky Department for Public Health issued a travel advisory with the recommendation of a 14-day self-quarantine for travelers who went to any of the states reporting positive testing rate equal to or greater than 15 percent-of COVID-19 testing.

Not sure what to think of Flint. On one hand he was Cal's man at UMASS during their absolute pinnacle and had the unenviable task of following him there. On the other hand he spent 15 meh years coaching Drexel then got Indiana taint on him. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I do know I'm not going to be a complete ***** about it like some.

Kenny Payne staring down Nick Richards his freshman season is one of my favorite facial expressions made by another human.

If this helps shake Cal out of the 2015 hangover, okay. But I'm not optimistic (frankly, I'm not optimistic about the future of college basketball, period). I'm on the ***** bus, I'll own it.
