I don’t understand how children convince their parents their school decision is down to two choices — both of which cost a boatload of money. My parents made my choice very easy.

“UK costs $5,000 per year. That’s what we’re paying. If you want to go elsewhere, just tell us your plan to pay the difference.”

And that was that.

I can F’ing promise you my parents never agonized over this situation.

^Well, some parents think it's best to send their kids to the best possible education. I don't see an issue with that.

What I see an issue with is guidance counselors pushing students to college when they have little interest and/or financial backing. Some adult(s) in the room needs to have a discussion at that point similar to what your parents had. Also, have issue with bazillions in college admissions, endowments, donations and they're doing little to bring in disadvantaged kids.

Chad was just spewing off about whatever John Legend directed shallow newsletter hit his inbox this weekend for the weekly Hollywood lib talking points. FREE COLLEGE FOR ALL!!

I saw it first hand at Lindsey Wilson. It's an easy college to get in to and they really push financial aid. Literally half of my floor in my freshman dorm was gone after the fall semester and most of them were in $10k debt already because they reneged on their loan/scholarship terms.

“Ryerson” is also the punchline to every joke I make about Canadian post-secondary education with my wife. Please keep that in mind:

She's Canadian educated, so it's close TBH.

"What if our son wants to go to school in Canada?"

"Sure, just let me know when Ryerson joins the SEC!"

Absurd.

-The Cassius Winston videos from yesterday were . Good for him going out and playing.

-Tailgate was a hoot Saturday. Good size crew. Bama LSU game. Boys out back playing horse the whole time. Fun had by all. The gingko berries sucked.

-That feeling when your kid decides to take a 3 hour nap on a post-tailgate Sunday :raised_hands:[smoke]

-IMO, we should've had a series or 2 for Smith. I know Stoops doesn't like that but now you have to. It was only a matter of time until a defense figured Bowden out in a non-monsoon game. Oh well. We should win out and get to 7, bowl gets us to 8. 7-8 wins in a bridge year with the injuries we've had is a helluva job. Also, probably just enough to keep Stoops.

-Ready for the hardwood cayuts to get back out there. Last game just left me wanting to see these guys more.

-councelors are doing what they're told to do. Society as a whole is pushing the everybody to college thing. Parents are looking at schools as status symbols. "Handbag culture"...see aunt Becky for an extreme example. Can you imagine the shitstorm when little johnny comes home and says "Mr. Smith said I should consider trade school."

-costs will go down when schools have to compete for limited customers.

-enjoyed pre-game. Not thinking about the game anymore. That works for me.

-so i let buster in yesterday evening. He beelines to our room where mrs rudd and segunda are reading or whatever. A moment later i hear segunda scream "theres a dead rat in the bed!"...the dog had killed another chipmunk and brought it in to show off. Which led to completely stripping the bed inc. the hypoallergenic mattress encasement at 10pm. Irritating...but hes still a good boy.

Hopefully who you were talking to doesn't go spend $75,000 per year. That would be wasted money for sure.

Given the two choices wcc laid out, considering spending an extra TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS to attend a different university doesn’t make you a good parent. It makes you a pushover and an idiot.

Yeah, GYERO takes your parenting advice with a HUGE grain of salt.

I'm as pro-trades/anti-college as it gets but if that's what they can afford and want for their kid -> go for it. None of my business and hopefully the the kid majors in something that will give them a decent ROI.

I understand the whole trade school thing, I really do and absolutely see the advantages for a small number of people. But the reality is is that almost everyone here went to a conventional college and a lot of you post in this thread 5 hours a day in between talking about what steakhouse you ate at, your recent European vacation rundown, or the marathon you ran so you can stay in shape. If this were a welders thread it would be filled with chiropractor recommendations and who the best worker’s compensation lawyers are for severe hand injuries and the posts would be at 9pm or later after everyone finished their 11 hour manual labor shift, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

I had no idea American colleges being too damn expensive was a partisan issue.
The conservative ethos would definitely point to giving unlimited funds to whoever wants them, backing those funds up with taxpayer money, and subsequently driving up the cost unfettered. So I see why you’re confused.

Monday Shorts:

-Wasn't near 100% myself Saturday, but I'm glad I made it down. That basketball goal is hard for me to get away from...drinking & playing horse w/ flat kickball is pretty damn fun. 8-1, w/ a cool $140 in my Venmo to show for it.

Good time w/ Tommy & his UT buddy, who was actually a great guy. My section enjoyed.

-Have always thought Mason Headley in November is about as pretty of a city street as you'll ever see.

-Those berries, lol. Sounded like it was hailing on the house all day. :joy: Guess I should be more thankful for my gumballs.

-Had my first stadium incident in many years. Couple beside me was straight making out nonstop & not watching a single play...so I finally asked them if it was their 1st Date - dude did NOT like that. I mean, at one point she was straddling him in his lap facing backwards and sucking his neck, it was a joke. A few minutes of back and forth & a chest-up later, they were heading for the house halfway through the 1st quarter. Oops

-As far as simple apps go, 7 layer dip is up there. Worship

-Was leaning towards Vandy/nashville had we won, but now...:grimace:

-Did my first Bourbon Lotto Saturday....1000 wrist bands, for a drawing of 100 bottles. I was called 51st, and walked away w/ my first George T Stagg. Gave me just enough adrenaline to make the trip.

-Thanks to poor planning, My in game consumption was about 25% of usual, and didn't have anything (to drink :eyes:) afterwards, which made for a much more pleasant Sunday.

-Happy Veteran's day Pope (and others). :americanflag:

I am seriously considering starting a landscape biz next year. I feel like I would be happy mowing grass and planting azaleas for the rest of my life. Hopefully my large muscular sons will join the business after they retire from the big leagues. Rax and Boys Lawncare

Drank too much VoB Saturday night and fell asleep right after halftime. Looks like I missed a barn burner. Glad Lynn Bowden made sure to get on the internet and scold the fans. Becoming one of my favorite UK football traditions.

Wife is sicker than ****. Daughter has strep and double ear infections. All a week after my son spent several days getting poked and prodded while doctors tried to figure out wtf was wrong with him. Been an awesome fall so far. Luckily it’s almost the holidays

time for a suns

* ****** game, great tailgate. Thanks to Popes and Schems for the hospitality.

* Thank you to geesefeeder for trying to prevent my wife from doing any more pumpkin pie shots.

* I hate Tennessee.

* Tommy didn't have a chance vs BBdK. The home crowd was against him. He didn't handle the "Frodo" insults well. Got in his head.

* Finally met that CSC dude. Great guy.

* Just wait until the Bengals fire Marvin and bench Dalton! At least '73 and the rest of the Cards fans got to celebrate LAMAR!!!

* Happy Veterans Day! Thank you, Vets.

* Had a memorial service for my old HS basketball coach yesterday. Nice ceremony in the HS gym. Brought make some memories.

* We better take care of biz vs the Dores. Maybe even let a QB take some of the snaps?

* Rudd is the man.

* I'm glad we have a basketball game tomorrow to get some of that VOL redass out of my system.

* Let's have a good week, GYERO.

~Congrats to BBdK for the Stagg. 150 bottles at the Hamburg LB for the 1000 diehards/resellers.....then they proceeded to invade CFA for breakfast which was hilarious.

~Major props to all the Vets and their families. Wouldn't even begin to understand that sacrifice. Awesome.

~The avg joe football would think a coach at any level would have a QB on his roster who could execute a simple pass play 10 times a game. With the best WR/KR turned QB who now is the best RB...will be interesting to see who steps in all 3 of these roles when he leaves for the $ next season.

~17 at the Turkey Day table which we do on the night before...room for a couple of more if you want a hot meal.

~Lamar is a pretty good QB who wasn't supposed to be a pretty good QB.

~Prayers to Trevathan....sick feeling just thinking about his arm.

~LV 5 weeks away. Need a good week to have more to lose.

- Despite the loss, had a blast as always in Lexington for the game.

- My best friend is a big UT fan, he got the hall pass from his wife to come up from NC and join me for the game.

He loved every minute of it. He basically felt bad UT won after meeting everyone and having such a good time.

- Thanks to BBdK for the seats. And yeah, those two sitting next to him looked like the beginning stages for a porno...only it was 35 degrees and they were dry humping over over a combined eight layers.

- The Gorilla Goal is awesome. Started off slow in HORSE, basically hustling the field...then went for big money against BBdK and won. Just like last time.

- The trick shots and double fakes off the glass took a toll...going in for Xrays today. Game four or five I came down awkward, but was too boozed up for the pain to really affect me.

Woke up yesterday, ankle is black and blue and swollen to the point I had to drive back to NC in flip flops.

- Cant say enough about the Jaimanth spread and their hospitality. Everything on point every time.

- Good to see Willy and CSC, been a decade plus. Although Willy was definitely in a mood after the game.

- Hated leaving Kentucky. In depth 3 month breakdown coming later...but going to start looking at property in Louisville.

^ you won zero dollars on the day, per usual.

-The "Commonwealth is always 10-15 degrees cooler" was definitely in effect Saturday night, at least for me. I caught an early chill, and could not shake it...was touching freezing by the end.

My intimidation factor in HORSE is crazy.

1. The whole crowd has to be against me the entire day. Actively yelling out insults and heckling me during the game.

2. Talking during my shot. Mostly on purpose. It's a damn Catholic mass during everyone else's shot, especially BBdK. It's like everyone has battered women's syndrome with him.

3. Everyone tries to get me out first. They scout my weak areas, then ONLY shoot those shots until they can get me out.

Where I'm from, you can't shoot the same shot twice in a row...not here. Boat and BBdK, same damn shot everytime. Luckily my free throws were falling, unfortunately, I have been too busy to get a haircut...and being the only one who can grow hair...was handicapped on the 800 off the head shots in a row.

:joy:

It's more everyone is scared to death to say a word during BBdK's shot...but then actively try to screw with mine.

Not a big deal...just sayin'.
