Went back and read To Kill a Mockingbird not long ago and really enjoyed the re-read. Not a novel, but great story, Boys in the Boat is my favorite book from the last few years. Recently, Do No Harm was very good and I'm currently reading McCullogh's most recent book The Pioneers.
Catcher in the Rye is interesting to read as an adult because you will now hate the protagonist.
Same with “Into the Wild” there I said it
Animal Farm is a good easy read, if you want to do Orwell.
-non fiction: homage to catalonia is fantastic. orwell was an authentic badass.
Chad from Claryville Goes to the Former Yugoslavia should be coming out this fall and will most definitely be a must read.
I've heard old, stuffy English teachers of the past refer to Gatsby as the great American literary masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Gatsby. But to me, it has always been Mockingbird. Just wonderful storytelling. So thankful for Harper Lee's and Truman Capote's friendship because after reading that god-awful Go Set a Watchmen, I'm fairly convinced that Truman Capote heavily influenced the plot development of Mockingbird.
The Stranger is about as Nihilistic as it gets. Many of you would probably enjoy. And by "many" I mean UCL.
Vonnegut is an interesting author to go back and re-read. It's no real secret that he leaned toward socialism, but it's been recently suggested that he may have been more of a communist than anything. So when he wrote the short story, "Harrison Bergeron," he wrote it as a satire of how a NON-communist would satirize a communist dystopia. Crazy.

Went back a few years ago and read some of the classics I should have paid more attention to in high school.

You're GD right it does. That book was both mind-numbing and infuriating. Complete dog **** and hated reading every second of it. It honestly made me litter more often out of spite.
