This team is starting to remind me of the 98 squad. No true superstar but plenty of high quality players who meshed into a great team. They had some clunkers as well, namely UL and Florida at Rupp. I also remember the Bama game at Freedom Hall when Bacote went ape **** on us, but we pulled it out. I didn't think that was a title squad during the season but it morphed into one.

Turner/Hagans: defensively disruptive PG who isn't a great shooter but is effective off the dribble

Shepherd/Herro: athletic wing who can shoot but also create off the dribble and has the ability to come up in the clutch

Edwards/Johnson: athletic wings who seem to produce quietly but are very effective

Mohammed/Washington: both emerged as our main guy down the stretch, different players but same importance

Evans/Travis: muscle men who do the dirty work but are capable of big games

Magloire/Richards: big man off the bench who can be maddening but also bring defense and a different look

Mills/Baker: Baker needs to start making shots but both are designated shooters

I know Padgett/Montgomery and Smith/ Quickley aren't quite similar in roles. One could argue Padgett is most similar to Washington in his role. But they both round out a 10 man rotation.

I'm not trying to compare each player, just their team roles. Obviously, the 98 squad was filled with vets who had Final 4 experience but I like how the makeup of each team is similar. I hope it leads to similar results.

Problem with your analysis is that Brad is redshirting so you don't have a comp for Saul Smith.

PJ may not be a superstar, but he is starting to make a case. Dude is averaging 20+ over the last six games and has turned in to our clear-cut leader.

Vern,

I like my 03 comp...

Hawk/Hagans
Fitch/Herro
Bogans/KJ
Hayes/Travis
Daniels/PJ

This team has more upside but that team had a lot of experience/chemistry.

Both comps are valid in that this team, like 98 and 03, doesn’t (didn’t) necessarily have a “Wall, Davis, Towns” level talent but it has multiple second level guys that can have a night. It also doesn’t have a weak link in the rotation, everyone brings something to the table.

I agree. Was also thinking a little 2003. Certainly different than any other Cal team at UK. Maybe one of his pre-Rose Memphis teams.

*just saw Lee's post.

This certainly don’t have the overwhelming size like Cal’s other elite teams did in 2010, 2012, or 2015. It’s not like we’re going 7 foot, 6’10” and 6’9” in the frountcourt.

This bunch is quick to the ball though when it comes to rebounding, including Hagans and Herro. Washington and Johnson also have elite length.

Now if either Montgomery or Richards can grow a sixth finger and otherwise impersonate Marquis Estill, that'd be awesome.

(Unless they come out on the court with their jersey on backwards. In which case, that'd be both awesome and hilarious.)

If PJ can keep hitting threes at this clip, maybe we are due for a game from EJ Montgomery where he hits a bunch of threes like that one time Wenyen Gabriel hit 7 threes in a game.

The UNC racist picture thread is up to 8 pages. Seems like “wow that’s really racist, can’t believe they put that in a yearbook” is the only take you need from that picture.

Just glanced at the last few pages. One undeniable fact, The BigBluebowski is terrible.

Stone cold lock the last five pages of that UNC thread has consisted of five people going back and forth.

I know absolutely nothing about LSU, what their story? Crafty veterans? Athletic big men? Good guard play? Can’t believe their record, good opportunity for a quadrant 1 win I’m assuming.

Virginia, and the ACC this year, sucks.

Needs to learn circumstance. They lost that game by 20 when it was called late due to Montverde’s big man shoving a Roselle player into the bench and Whitney charging over to whip some ***, clearing both benches.

Peej looked pissed. Good. We need more if we're going to be for real. No time for feelings this week. Difference in a 1 and 3 seed.
