Two Questions:
1. Are you buying into the Virginia revenge tour?
2. Thoughts on their matchup Saturday at Duke? On paper, they’re a horrible matchup for Duke. Packline should take away the drives and open up the RJ Barrett Three-Point Spectacular, which isn’t good for the Devils.
Virginia isn't holding the ball this year like they have in seasons past. Better late than never, I guess. They're not running The System or anything, but when I've watched them it looks like they're pulling the trigger earlier if they get a good look, and they can really chuck it. Guy, Hunter and Jerome are studs and studs play better at a faster pace.
Can't imagine Duke losing twice in a row at home, but they need Tre Jones. That guy is really good and really important to their whole groove, and as great as Duke is, they're still at their best when they run stuff through Jones. I didn't get to watch any of the game against Syracuse, so I still don't understand how they lost that one because Syracuse has yet to impress me. I'm sure RJ Barrett needing 30 FGA to score 23 points probably had something to do with it.
* PAC-12 being a one-bid league will help the other conferences out in terms of the gigantic log jam of 18-10 teams that's going to happen.
* Pound for pound, I don't know if any team has brought me more pure entertainment this year than Marquette. Elite offensive squad, the player with the biggest green light in the country, but they're terrible on defense so every game is high scoring and goes down to the last possession. They'll either make a big run in March or lose in the first round with no in between.
* John doesn't scream at Hagans much. Probably why his confidence has gone way up. Jimmy Dykes kept calling him a gambler on defense, and I'm not seeing that. He isn't playing free safety to get these steals, he isn't jumping a ton of passing lanes, he's just taking the ball away from dudes within the flow of their offense for the most part. He can reach in and poke it away from a big while still giving chase to the guard he's checking. It's all natural.
Jimmy Dykes also kept calling him a gap blaster. I wish Jimmy Dykes coached women's basketball a little better.
* I work with a UNC alum who insists that Nassir Little is actually horrible and doesn't play hard, and Roy Williams is right to play him as sparingly as he does. I see a player with shot confidence and think he needs to be allowed to play through mistakes.
