Which is why I said long term, although neither one of them proved to have much of a ceiling. Both have been solid players for a long time now, a couple AS games for Deng, but neither really took off.

Deng is a career 15/6 guy in the NBA, which puts him on a list about 1000 players long...earned his stripes w/ rugged play, defense, energy, and being long & athletic, which is what Gabriel's strengths are going to be.

Listened to the first two Texas Roadhouse Countdown to Tipoffs. Really do miss the Big O but think Rex is going to do a heckuva job. It's such a breath of fresh air when someone covering a team in this day and age gives you their honest opinion, isn't a total homer and doesn't use media speak generic cliches over and over.

That's what made Cawood so good. Call a spade a spade.

If Willis doesn't play 20+ minutes a game, this team will not be a true championship contender. Only consistent outside shot on the team...one of the better rebounders on the team. Runs the floor as well as any Kentucky player in a long time.

Looking forward to the first time he is in the doghouse.

Eaves Sports Radio: That's a brand name...like Coke or Pepsi.

I stand behind it, I GUARANTEE IT...even if you don't know me any more than you know the Chairman of General Mills.

-I like Tom Leach, he's the voice of the Wildcats.

B/c he's not Cawood I guess. He's gotten better year after year, and does a great job overall in his seat and his 'brand'.

As high school senior, Tom listed his ultimate career goal "to become the next Voice of the Wildcats." Almost every broadcaster in Kentucky wants that best seat in Rupp Arena, but the dream came true for Tom. Now, he follows in the footsteps of Cawood Ledford, Ralph Hacker, Claude Sullivan, Jim Host and the others who have called the games for the Cats.

Tom began his work on the UK Radio Network in 1989 as host of the postgame scoreboard and call-in shows. Eight years later, he was named the play-by-play voice for Kentucky football and he added the basketball responsibilities in 2001. Since then, he's been named Kentucky Sportscaster of the year five times.

Love his story. Pretty cool, imo. Knows the horseys as well -- he's as KY as it gets regarding our sports.

He doesn't give you any real insight to the game within the game. Cawood was relentless with preparation and would tell you bluntly whether we liked it or not how the Cats were playing.

Don't expect Leach to be the goat but the dude never takes a stance on anything it seems or makes a bold statement. I don't think he works at his preparation either. Think he's kind of lazy. His show would even be subpar if it wasn't for his guests filling all of the content.

I'm the opposite, I feel like people are really underestimating Gabriel's early impact potential.

He's the guy I think the NBA guys are going to really fall in love with, even with presumed low/marginal numbers.

I think this is true and why cal will push him over a guy like SKJ who seems pretty darn polished and mature for his age. SKJ Reminds me of Lyles who was underutilized here, imo. Wenyan is a project with unreal potential, plus he's a refugee.

They're both pretty good prospects in their own distinct ways.

Gabriel is a high energy NBA 3 who can cover ground with his quickness and length. I'm still not sure about his true face-up game, but he's active and will make a ton of plays around the rim. Should be a college 4, tho. Doesn't need to be messing around on the perimeter much at UK, IMO. Keep him around the paint for putbacks, dumpoffs, etc... Needs to quit bobbing his head every time he starts/stops running. Almost like he's experiencing whiplash.

SKJ is a prototypical NBA 4 with who is just starting to come in to his own. Needs to work on his toughness and feel in the paint area. Don't think he's every been asked to play like a true 'big' up until now so the physicality and awareness is new to him, I think. He's got a nice touch and his face-up game is real. I'm not sure of his actual game range but he's got a little Charlie Villaneuva to him.

Like them both but I'm prolly a little more partial to SKJ. Both will be key throughout the year.

- Willis has been much more of a factor in transition than I ever thought he would be. He fills the lanes extremely well and really makes himself available to outlet passes. He kinda sneaks up on you and then BOOM he's already at the rim flushing down. He's a real weapon in that respect. Of course, if the paint is clogged, he can bolt for an open corner and await the kickout, too. Fox and Monk are going to attract a ****-ton of attention attacking the rim. Willis is going to get a bunch of points this year as a result of that (if he plays, ha)

Don't mind Leach, though he could stand to be less of a homer. I get that he has to toe the company line, but it's OK to be critical if the situation calls for it.

My only gripe with him is that when he has to go to a break on his radio show, it's always awkward and abrupt.

Cameron Mills: "And then Coach Pitino told me something about his time at UK that he's never told anyone before, Tom, and I think that Kentucky fans will find this really interesting."

Tom Leach: "Wow. OK, what's that?"

Cameron Mills: "He said that, and I can't believe I'm telling this story publicly for the first time, but he said that his biggest regret in life is that--"

Tom Leach: "Sorry gotta go to a break! Bye!"

Hacker can diaf. I love Tom Leach. He's an almanac of UK knowledge.

Willis will be this team's Darius Miller. Love what I see from him thus far. He's confident, in terrific shape, and he's seasoned. Doesn't matter if he starts but he must play as much as anyone.

Election coverage on ESPN.com

Anyone else following this story where they found this missing woman chained up like a dog in a storage shed on some dudes property in South Carolina? Her and her boyfriend had been missing for 2 months and they found his body buried on the property. The guy who owns it also confessed to a 2003 quadruple homicide at a motorcycle shop. They keep finding bodies on his property they have no clue who they are.
I was reading about that couple a month ago and like a week after they went missing the boyfriend's facebook page started posting cryptic stuff and saying the they were ok and got into arguments with her friends and family when they demanded to know where she was. It is all very disturbing.

You really can't compare any subsequent play-by-play guys to Cawood because he wasn't just play-by-play. He essentially did that *and* color. That's what made him so great. He didn't need Hacker. After Cawood retired, Hacker tried to be Cawood--i.e. play-by-play and color--which is why he fell flat. Leach is pure play-by-play. He needs Piecoro and Pratt.

Charlie Mac Alexander>>>>>>Kyle Macy

Also echo whoever it was in GYERO who said that Piecoro is underrated. Driving around to cross country meets allowed me to listen to other schools' broadcasts on satellite radio, and it's unreal how bad most schools' analysts are. We're really, really fortunate to have that guy.

Willis will be this team's Darius Miller.

I like this comparison to an extent, but Willis seems a little more assertive early on. With Miller, his play was normally spot on but he was just so passive and did not bring the game to him.

I think the battle for minutes won't be between Gabriel and SKJ but will be battles between SKJ and Izak to back-up Bam and Gabriel and Willis to play the combo role.

Calipari seems to be full-in on making Gabriel a small forward if at all possible.
