How do any of the athletic departments in major conferences not make money? I understand a MAC school, but if you're in the SEC/P10/B12/B10/ACC, how is possible you're not profitable with all that TV $$$? Think I read only 24 athletic departments made a profit last year.

A lot of it is accounting tactics. For example UL moves stuff around on the accounting ledger to have THE MOST PROFITABLE BASKETBALL PROGRAM. Some schools spend everything so they don't show a profit.

Lol at Brooks being scared of the TOPPS.

If we can't beat WKU, it's our own damned fault. I'm for playing them in Nashville every year. #funsies

Because admins are great at one thing... spending money on themselves. Read recently where Michigan has added somewhere around 100 athletic admin positions in the last few years averaging $75k/person.

big weekend for ol' MaxPowerrr

- put our house on the market Friday afternoon- sold it about 30 hours later. Boom. Actually gone out for drinks and dinner, got home and had the offer texted to us at 11:00. Pretty good feeling. Now just gotta get all those TVs mounted over fireplaces in the new spot.

- celebrated with some slow grilled charcoal grilled burgers from my local butcher shop, little joint called "Kroger". Top notch and paired well with some crafties.

- thought GoT was really good last night. Am kinda interested to see how far it's going from the still unfinished books. The Dorne and Davos storylines are pretty off the rails at this point. Still, good to have back on Sunday nights.

- D-1 football should have about 1/2 of the teams it currently does. The growth of the power conferences has helped push down the smaller state schools even further. The only reason teams like EMU, etc. exist is administrative egos "but we're a D-1 football program!!!". It's dumb. Over 1/2 of your student body is going to stay home and watch UM/MSU games on Saturdays and the other half is part of the growing population that doesn't are about football anyway. People that run higher ed are idiots, no offense.

If your athletics program hemorrhages money, is there a good reason to keep it? I think this is a question you're going to see more and more schools asking.
after the uab debacle I thought this question had been asked and emphatically answered: nothing more valuable and important at a school than a d1 program. A dozen or so have built up to joining recently, or well on their way. Appy st, Charlotte, umass come to mind he'll even EKU finally kicking it around (good for the state).

Probably not a coincidence our ooc scheduling philosophy features programs so awful they consider ending their teams

UNC on Monday confirmed receipt of the amended Notice of Allegations (NOA), which again details the results of the NCAA’s investigation into a scheme of suspect African Studies classes that benefited athletes in disproportionate numbers. The new NOA, like the first, wasn’t immediately released.

And so its contents, and how it compares to the original NOA that UNC received last May, remained unclear on Monday. The amended NOA will eventually be released publicly in modified form, after the university’s PR team redacts most all of it.

The majority of Athletic Departments at public institutions operate on the same type of state line item budgets that any other department budget would. Only your bigger schools and programs do the private athletic department funding, thus more of them show profitability.

When the small public school athletic departments have a budget that is approved by state legislators, they dont really need to show revenue in the black- and if they do, they are likely to have their budget cut as a result. Especially now in a time where no state is supporting higher education as much as they should.

So while showing how much money your dept makes is fine for some, most dont really care at all.. and showing a small loss probably helps them the next time budget talks come around.
/college financial statement bogus sham

Have two final interviews this week and next for a new gig i'd really like. 5 total interviews for this one position. Over 7 weeks. Again, efficiency isnt the strongpoint of higher education.

The housing market is unreal right now, I saw 2 other couples list and sell over the weekend on Facebook. You definitely have the upper hand if you're selling right now, hopefully it cools off some next year when we decide to buy.

So a unc fan just pulled off one of the better troll jobs ever. Twitter account @ RCCPMD had UK and State fans eating up all his info this past week. Info that had everyone excited about the hammer coming down on unc. Revealed himself as a unc fan today. Gotta give him a 10/10.

If you can get your house up by end of May then its good. Got mine up in June and took 2.5 months. 5 houses in my neighborhood last year that went up in March/April sold in days and the most was 2 weeks.

I always took a sellers / buyers market to be one in the same, because unless you are selling at the high now and waiting a year or so, then whatever you made or got in full asking price you'd have to turn around and give when you bought. As 90% of people do when they sell and buy a new place.

There's not a timing of the markets like stocks, so to speak.

The housing market is actually down in 2016 YTD compared to the entirety of 2015 for Central Kentucky. The average sale price for FY 2015 was $182,958.00 whereas YTD the average sale price in 2016 is $178,435. Fayette County is down from $212,084.00 to $201,928 from 2015 to 2016 YTD. Woodford County crushed it though jumping to $229,573 from $209,709. Easily the biggest jump of the counties represented in the market report.

Of course anything beats the days of three foreclosures on your block and half the neighborhood sold at a master commissioner's sale because everyone defaulted on a mortgage they should have never been approved for.

Same deal.

ZOMG I just sold my house for $30k more than I paid for it!!!!! Meanwhile, the house that same person bought has an owner screaming, "ZOMG I just sold my house for X more than I paid"!!!!!

And so on....and so on....and so on.....

No, that came from Aligned for 9, a poster on this site that has had a lot of scoop on this for years now. He corresponds with a lot of the State guys that have inside info. I think the unc troll took some of that info and made it even more believable by claiming to be a compliance officer from another school. Of course that is where he and the State guys could have got some if their info. Don't know the timeline.

Mitchell just notched his 6th transfer out of the program this season. [laughing]

That guy must be bi-polar or something.

Matthew Mitchell is definitely the creepy uncle of the UK athletics family. He should probably just grow a wispy mustache and own it already.

- Generally speaking, women need to chill the F out about Beyonce. I don't get it.

- Saw "Jungle Book"- it was a'ight. Not bad. Probably a tad scary for the really little ones.

- I like my Derby off to the side of O'Shea's, in courtyard perhaps, maybe at that side bar.

- But up here, I'll probably head over to Belterra to make some bets, then hit Neons and Lacheys for the race.
