Checked out the Michigan-Wisconsin rout to hear Gus Johnson say Jonathan Taylor originally committed to Rutgers--and think (lots of ambient noise) he called us a small school in New Jersey. If true, he deserves The Wrath of Twitter. He's a pretty good play by play guy for football and hoops, if a bit over dramatic, but this mistake, if it happened, is inexcusable.

Glad to hear that--as said, enjoy Gus. He adds something to the game and works well with his color guy in both sports.

When I hear the name Gus Johnson I only can think of "Honeycomb", the old Baltimore Bullet.

Note sure who's being posterized here but that's Lenny Wilkens in the background.

Gus, like Vitale, before him is fun and good for the game(s).

Yeah. there were some like Billy Packer, a more "traditional" guy who put people to sleep and deeply resented guys like Vitale and Al McGuire. Gus can be over the top, but he is fun.

Billy Packer would also probably detest Bill Walton, but I check out Pac 12 (the conference of champions) games to see if he is working the game. Wanders around, but occasionally you get a real nugget of basketball insight with all the hyperbole and his periodic annoyance at the way a team is playing.

I can't deal with Gus Johnson. He calls every single play as if it was a game-winning shot.

I love Al McGuire. I liked Vitale the first few years, and there's no doubt he was a great ambassador for the game, but he does wear on you. And that was a long time ago.

Enthusiasm I prefer in my color guy, not my play-by-play guy. Billy Packer as a color analyst was extremely dull. Plus we spelled his name wrong on the little message board on the scoreboard at the RAC when CBS came or the West Virginia game way back when. Knowing Rutgers it wasn't intentional, but I liked it anyway.

I do like Bill Walton for his irreverence, but he does have to land once in a while ...
