In addition to an undergraduate degree in Business, Neal Brown has an MBA. I get the impression that he is thinking things through rather than going by feel.

You do the exact same thing by Dana that you condemn Brown over. You twist the argument just like the others to suit the narrative you choose to subscribe to. You claim others worship Brown, but seriously man, nobody... NOT ONE SINGLE OTHER POSTER ON THIS BOARD... obsesses over a coach the way you do Dana.

I liked Dana. I was surprised to see him go. I felt the separation was about as amicable as it could have possibly been. Certainly there are those that were not always fair to Dana cheering the fact that he chose to go somewhere else. But it is no less unfair the way you attack everything Brown does, when Brown’s biggest crime is that he wanted to become the head coach at WVU, a position that was vacated by the previous coach.

You are first and foremost a Dana fan. There is nothing wrong with that. That being the case, maybe the Houston site would suit you better.

One could easily invert your flimsy argument. The other day, the Dana's left over recruits were talented enough to win the Big 12 if they just had the right coaching. Today the recruits are so good that they overcame Brown's incompetence to win a game. Can't have it both ways. If the recruits were Big 12 championship caliber as you posited before then the change from the first 2 weeks to week 3 would have to be improvement in coaching.

Coaches will always need to adapt and there will always be a difference between teams in practice and the realities of an actual game. Just like any season of football where we all ***** about the ranking system, no team really knows who they are until they have at least a few real games under their belt. Dana was a great X's and O's guy which is a great talent when it comes to football. His sin was that he was lazy. All leaders study tactics. The great ones also study logistics. It is boring and mundane, but it is critical and Dana did not seem to think it all that important. Putting in 12 hour days on occasion, really gutting it out with recruiting, and overseeing the rest of the staff all while putting up with the politics, donors, and PR responsibilities is tough work. But that is why the pay is so high. Dana had 8 seasons and last year was as good as he was going to do with his current path which he showed no signs of deviating from. Perhaps he will change, but it is highly unlikely it ever would have happened if WVU kept giving contract extensions.

Ultimately, Brown may never be as good of a head coach as Dana was at WVU. However, a change at the head coaching position was needed at the time. I'm happy to see what Brown can do not because of Brown himself, but because it was all but certain that WVU was not going to win the Big 12 under Dana. Brown got the same hope from me that Dana had when he was hired. I like some things and dislike some things, but just like I said before, you don't know what you have until the games are played. We'll see what kind of Mountaineer football team is fielded in 2021 compared to 2019 to see what kind of coach WVU has. If it is the same trajectory as Dana's first three years at WVU, I will be right here giving him criticism the same as I did with Dana.
