I just bought my first handgun last month. I tried out the S&W Shield and the Springfield XDS mod 2 9mm and ended up going with the XDS. I love it. The pinky extension grip on the magazine is awesome. It’s easily concealed if you’re looking to ever carry. Very reliable from everything I’ve read and heard from some of my police friends in Fayetteville. Pretty difficult finding 9mm ammo right now though. They’ve got a .45 XDS also and I’ve heard great things. Check this website out. They post great deals all the time.

I target shoot on a regular basis and own several pistols and revolvers. I’m not sure what the hell you’re talking about regarding the negatives of a .40 Cal. One of my favorite pistols to shoot, not carry because it’s too big, is the Glock Model 22 .40 cal. Fantastic round and gun. 15 round mag with night sites. Cost should be under $700.

It is called .40 Short and Weak for a reason.

Kimber makes junk. No better than Taurus.

Say what? Kimber makes one of the finer quality handguns. They are higher priced for a reason, those Taurus pistols are fine but there is also a reason you can go and pick up a G3 for under a 300. Taurus revolvers are a different story. They do make those better. In my opinion, Kimber, Springfield, Sig, Swith and Wesson, and Walther make some of the best handguns. I also own Taurus and Rugers but I consider them second tier in handguns to that first group.

Gun show or pawn shop might be your best bet for unloading a muzzleloader. Probably won't get much though if selling to a pawn shop.

I paid $199 with no tax & free shipping for a new Ruger EC9S less than a year ago from Smokey Mountain Guns and Ammo. Nice little gun for the price.

I love my kimber. I have the micro 9 with the hoke grip for my carry gun.

For somthing that really feels good in your hand look at a H n K i have the VP 9mm . It is really smooth and i can hit better with it than either of my wifes glocks. Yes my wife has 2 glocks, a newer hellcat and a LCR 357 revolver. Im married to a card carrying Well Armed women

Those h n k's are nice I've held a few of those but haven't shot one. Not a fan of the glocks mostly just because I don't like the ergonomics of their guns. Fine shooting weapons just don't like the feel.

My wife and I also shoot together. She has the 380 SW MP Shield EZ. I actually really like that one. Really Smooth action and lives up to its name.

I have a Ruger American full size and had an LC9 years ago for conceal carry. Really liked the LC9 as far as bang for the buck and made a great conceal gun

They make a lot of new 9mm loads now that pack more punch. The ammo is so much cheaper as well.

If we’re recommending 9’s, I’ll 3rd the HK VP9. Great feel and great trigger, and I’m more accurate with it than my glock 19.

Co-worker just showed me his S&W M&P9, I liked it a lot, think ima have to go with it.

Might get the 9,m instead of .45, not sure.

It’d make more sense to get a 9mm since that’s what my Walther is.

A lot of good advice here. I have the full sized M&P 40 and like it a lot better than my Glock 23 and 27. The only reason why I own them is when the SHTF Glock parts will be readily available and you can interchange parts from different models.

If you just want a gun that is a joy to shoot, frequent the local pawn shops and gun shops and pick up a used 1911 or a Beretta 92. It may take a few months but you will see them every now and then at a good shop that sells high end firearms.

Currently carrying Springfield Hellcat. Really great carry gun. Single stack or stack and a half magazine. 11 +1 or 13+1.

I've got an old Kimber, from before people even knew about them really. One of the best guns I own. Great shooting gun! Taurus is the Kia of guns.

The old Kimbers were excellent guns. But they let themselves go hard in recent years. Much like Remington.

I agree with the comment earlier saying go buy what you want. Go handle a few and see what feels better in your hands. Brands don't matter if you just aren't a good shot with it.

With that said, I've owned Glocks, Springfields, Smith & Wessons, FN's, Beretta's, Ruger's. My favorite pistol that I will never get rid of is a Glock 19 9mm. It's like it was made for my hand. My least favorite pistol I ever owned was a Ruger EC9s or a Beretta PX4 Storm .40. High bore axis with the snappy nature of a .40 made me a terrible shot with it. If you do shoot a .40, I would recommend something with a lower bore axis (Glock or S&W). I love the way FN's felt in my hands as well.

I bought one for the wife to carry in her vehicle and she couldn't even rack the slide. I could barely open it. I think it's just the gamble you take on such a cheap gun. Some are probably fine, but I got a lemon.

Glock if you want dependable, accurate, and completely reliable under any condition. Kinda ugly though, but the looks will grow on you. The 23 is the best frame size for the 40 in my opinion. I have a 19 with a trigger job that will shoot better than I am capable of holding it.

1911 if you want the most beautiful handgun ever made by a long shot. It may take some tuning and aftermarket parts to shoot like you want it to depending on the brand you buy.

9mm has come a very long way and if the crap ever hits the fan 9mm ammo is by far the easiest to find.

Call Ruger. They have excellent customer service and warranty. I sent them a gun for warranty work and they paid all the shipping and had the gun back to me in 2 weeks.

I recently purchased this gun. I haven't shot it much yet, but so far it feels great. I got both mags with mine; thought it came standard with both.

Yeah that's why I got my wife the SW MP Shield EZ. Super easy to rack.

Same here. I bought her one back in March and I think it's a perfect gun for her. Two safeties, handle and thumb. Easy to rack the slide. Only drawback is it's a little larger frame than I prefer but otherwise a great gun for a woman to carry. I got her the .380.

You're not going to get much for a muzzleloader unless its a TC with multiple barrels.

Want to sell it? I collect older Colt DA revolvers.

I don't really sell (at least not for what a reasonable person would pay), but I do sometimes trade.

Do you shoot the .45 AR round? This thing is mint, looks brand new, I have the original paperwork from when it was purchased (for less than $30).

Yes it has. I’ve been trying to add to my cache of ammo, but the brands and calibers I want are continually out of stock. Price of ammo is climbing as well.

A couple of the gun stores around Madison have had constant shipments in and seem to advertise that they have ammo regularly. However, they are price gouging. Saw a customer call them out on Facebook for the ridiculous prices (was like $50 for a box of 50 9mm FMJs), and the owner claimed that since ammo wasn't considered "essential items" that price gouging was not illegal. He never refuted the price gouging claim.

Yeah yeah, capitalism and all that. But still.... this isn't competing with the market, it's 100% taking advantage of people. Case in point, saw that Cheaper than Dirt! was selling a 50 round box of 9's for a crisp $100 bill.

I really don’t get where Kimbers are junk

The old Kimbers were excellent guns. But they let themselves go hard in recent years. Much like Remington.
I don’t know much but 1911’s I know. Kimber has recently come out with a budget priced 1911 to compete with the mainstream guns but I haven’t shot one so I can’t speak to there reliability. Kimber has always been what I consider a high grade production gun, it picks up where the top of the line Sigs, Colts, or Springfields stop. It’s not a custom gun, it’s not a Wilson, Les Baer, or an Ed Brown. The fit and finish of a Kimber is great for a gun in its price range. I often carry and shoot a Kimber Ultra Raptor and while it’s accuracy isn’t on par with either my Les Baer or my WC it is better than any Ruger or Springfield that I have in my safe. I never was a Big Green guy but I loathe Remington for what they have done to Para Ordinance, it’s really a shame because while P.O. had some growing pains moving from Canada to the US, they really had some good designs. They finally had in my opinion the best sub 1k 1911 on the market and Remington killed them.
