Hagans PG
Maxey SG
Whitney SF
Sestina PF
EJ PF

Nick in for EJ for traditional center role. IQ at PG or Maxey moves to PG and IQ at SG. Brooks in for either Whitney or Sestina. He can play either position. Juzang at either SG or SF depending on style Cal wants to play with. Also, Allen (if healthy) at either the SG or SF. One more big would be nice though, but not a bad roation imo. Of course, it will vary and change thru the year until roles are more defined.

I would not mind seeing the following to start the season:

Hagans
IQ
Montgomery
Sestina
Richards

As the season progresses it would obviously change, but it would be nice to allow the freshman a few games to get acclimated before worrying about starting. If we got Blackshear, I would trade him out with Sestina in the starters.

I think Brooks might get the start over Sestina if Blackshear doesn't come of course.

I think we will see but

Hagans
Quickley
Whitney
EJ
NR

as a starting 5 to start the season.

The rotation will changed based off performance.

I think Sestina will be too slow, other that spot duty, to play the power forward spot.

I hope Hagans learns to shoot.

I do see us running 3-4 small forwards at times if you count JJ at 6'6" and Allen is healthy.

We know Cal is gonna run a lot of 4-out next season. Joel Justus just mentioned this again on a podcast last week.

With this lineup, the 4th person out can be either Sestina or EJ. Both of them can play on the perimeter. I can see Cal switching that up throughout the game with Nate and EJ. Obviously, Keion and/or Kahlil will be the 4th on the perimeter when a quicker lineup is warranted.

The true strength of this team, outside of a ridiculously loaded crop of perimeter talent, is how versatile we are. We will be a nightmare to prepare for.

A starting lineup with Hagans, Maxey,Whitney, EJ, and Richards would not work well with spacing, can’t have 4 non threats from 3 together for long stretches. Would like to see Hagans, Maxey, Juzang, Brooks, EJ

He might not start early but hard for me not to see Brooks as a permanent starter very quickly. Too long, tall and versatile to be on the bench.

If no one else is added:

G Hagans
G Maxey
F Whitney
F Brooks
F Montgomery

I hope we run the DDMO and stretch the floor.

If we add another big man (Blackshear or Dante seem most likely), then insert them at the 5 with Montgomery at the 4.

would love to see whitney and brooks on the floor at the same time but is probably not going to happen (if we get another big cal will probably leave ej at the 4). big and athletic though... take whitney out and put sestina in for richards and it’s a skilled small ball team.

maxey/hagans
whitney/quickley
brooks
montgomery/sestina
richards

People keep assuming Whitney can’t shoot because he’s athletic. Everywhere you look, his regular season and aau stats, he shoots 35-38% from 3. He will absolutely be a threat from outside this season.

G Hagans- needs to shoot confidently. Nothing wrong mechanically with his shot.
G Maxey- good shooter.
F Whitney- good shooter.
F Brooks- good shooter.
F Montgomery

Quickley, Juzang, and Sestina give us shooters coming in off the bench. Richards rotates with Montgomery at the 5.

I think that lineup/rotation should allow us to spread the floor and run the DDMO.

-I think people are to high on Whitney. I like him, I just don't think people should sleep on Brooks/Juzang.

- Hopefully Hagan's learns to take better care of the ball, that and comes back with a better perimeter game.
