Guess the score: Purdue @ Rutgers

Hmmm, Iowa did cause 17 turnovers. I suppose Rutgers should press and try to get easy baskets (including open threes in transition) because I think Purdue will be able to close down the basket in the half-court.
Dunk it or clunk it …

And along with their bigs, Purdue's 3 point shooters will probably wreak havoc on us too. The current Purdue starting lineup is 56-119 from 3 so far this year. 47%.

7'4" starter Zach Edey hasn't taken a 3 point shot yet, but the other four starters from 3 so far this season are Isaiah Thompson 14-23, 61%, Sasha Stefanovic 23-50, 46%, Caleb Furst 5-11, 45.5%, and Jaden Ivey 14-35, 40%...... 6'10" Trevion Williams had 18 rebounds off the bench the other night against Iowa, and is 2-4 from 3 for the season... Purdue is loaded.

Their bench can shoot too.. Of their primary five bench players who play significant minutes as part of Purdue's normal rotation, four of the five are also shooting over 40% from 3. That makes 8 of their primary 10 players shooting 40% or better from 3.
Their YTD 3 point shooting percentage is better than our 2 point shooting percentage (44.4%)

I'm just hoping the old RAC magic puts a spell on Purdue...

As I noted in another thread, this is the Boilermakers' first true road game of the season. Our home court advantage is the one thing in our favor on Thursday night.

A basketball game can be tough to predict sometimes. Both teams will get the same number of possessions but not the same number of shots. Purdue turned it over 17 times against Iowa, and Iowa got 12 more shots. Iowa also fouled Purdue 29 times so Purdue got more shots from the line.

The crazy thing is that the game was relatively close (Purdue won by 7) because Bohannon and the two McCaffreys shot a combined 0-11 from behind the arc. If they make just 3-11 they win that game on the road against the current #1 team.

Purdue won it from the arc and from the charity stripe, but they also needed those 3 guys to take an o-fer on treys to get the victory.

So suppose in their first real road game Purdue is cold from the arc and from the line. If they mainly score on 2-pointers inside on us, and we turn them over a lot, we might have a chance if we also shoot well. That’s why they play the games. Rutgers 74-73.

Thank you Billyc80. It seems most of our fans have no hope at all. I want to see the RAC rocking and we play like we did over Wisconsin when Eddie Jordan was our coach. I feel our guys will play very well.

Hopefully they get bored. Beating us by 40 wouldn't be hard for them. They are loaded. They have the coach and every skill and attribute you would want on a team

I think you forgot to mention that Iowa also was shooting 68% in the 2H until they finished the game missing their last 7 shots. Bohannon was a focus and was shut down by Purdue, but Iowa's offense was humming in that 2H helped immensely by some live-ball turnovers.

Ironically, when the press really started having an impact they went cold and finished the 2H with a 53% shooting effort for the half.

Most of the 17 turnovers weren't press-related. I believe in the 1H Purdue had 9 TOs but only 1 was caused by the press. The other 8 were self-inflicted. But 17 turnovers no matter how they happen will cost us a game at some point. It has to be cleaned up. Those 17 TOs led to 20 points for Iowa. Not good.

Overall the game Friday was the first time Purdue hurt themselves in a game. That 7 minute stretch between the 9.5-minute mark in the 2H to the 2.5-minute mark was great execution by Iowa and poor execution by Purdue.

Rutgers challenge will be whether or not they have the offensive horses that can trade shots with Purdue. Iowa has been a Top 5 offensive team all year and that really helped them on Friday to cut the 19pt deficit to just 2 late in the game.

It's going to take a team to trade shot for shot with us and for us to limit our own opportunities by being careless with the basketball.

Rutgers has found a way the last 3 games to take it to us. I'd like that streak to end now, please :)

We can't score. We can't defend the peremiter or paint. We can't rebound, or make free throws. If you have issues with us, your team didn't come to play

I agree. This game comes down to how locked in Purdue is. All things being equal Purdue should win this in a rout, but who knows what happens.

Finals are next week, end of semester projects are due this week. The kids' focus could just be elsewhere. .... Or we could be pissed with how that game finished on Friday and be locked in and ready to take it out on you guys. If it's the latter then this game is likely over in the first 8 minutes.

For Purdue to remain serious national title contenders they need to find their own reason for always being locked in each and every game, and avoid the off-the-court distractions or focus issues that can naturally pop up for 18-22-year-olds.

You have arguably the best player in the country in Jaden Ivy but Painter got out coached by Fran with the full court press. Your guards other than Ivy are nothing special and do not have great handles. Painter left whichever little guard you had bring the ball up and then attacked. Your guard either could not throw over the top , got his pass deflected or you had a 10 second violation. Painter did not bring Ivey back 1 time to take the ball and fly past Iowa and it almost cost you , as Perkins airballed that three . That will be a blueprint as to how to play you guys until Painter corrects it.
Pretty obvious in the half court with the sets and pin downs Painter runs with Ivey and Williams and Edey scoring or flushing out to your 3 point shooters any team would be hard pressed to make it a game in the half court. Leonard Hamilton of Florida State who got blown out by 25 points by Purdue 2 weeks ago , basically said good luck to the rest of the teams in the Big 10 since his tenacious 10 deep more athletic man to man team was no match . If Florida State could not handle it doubtful any other team in the country can as well.
But just a few games later , Fran presses you guys and you look human and don’t make most of your threes because you are stressed and pressed. That in my opinion is the only way besides getting your bigs in foul trouble and fouled out to compete with a chance to win. Ivey is special as are the Bigs but the rest are role players playing their roles well not that they are more talented like Baylor was last year.
Rutgers is struggling this year but we have length just like Iowa if Pike was to press . Plus a little RAC magic maybe this can be a game.

You all sound like Purdue fans in 2013. We had no hope. I guess without Geo, I can understand. Can I say that I hope you play well without sounding like an a**hole?
Without Geo?🤣

Kid was doing absolutely nothing before the injury save one game against St. Mary's Sisters of the Poor. He did however, display an awesome defeatist demeanor on the court.

What can you expect from the kid? He's been exploited for years. If I were him, I wouldn't score another basket until I started to get paid what I was worth.
