That’s because Duke has always relied on talent . Might be time to sit Sarr( can’t Complete a basket and Khamenia) for Harris . Atleast he’s not thinking about the draft . .

I’m old enough to remember Duke being ELITE PG U. I can’t wait till we get back to that along with NBA wing talent instead of projects like Sarr.
Honestly, not a knock on Sarr cause it’s really not his fault he plays all the time and defenses refuse to defend him. Hell, I’d much rather play Harris 25 mpg because he’d make Cam’s job easier on offense.

I wouldn't say soft. But they do need to be better to make a deep run. I thought this before tonight. Harris should play more. Cayden played well tonight. Taking away Evans was a key to the game. Foster and Evans are our x factors.

I stated that in the Michigan st thread . If you take away Evan’s three point shot then who scores? I’m in the boat it’s time to give Harris some more minutes and time for someone on the staff to show Sarr how to complete a lay up .

Evans can't be our X factor. Evans needs to be out 2nd best player.

We havent had an elite PG in quite a while..one that can get to the rim and hit the outside shot. Its a key when the games get tight. I was hoping we would pick up an experienced portal PG but no luck. Right now who would we give the ball to on a final possession? None of our guards are reliable enough to have that responsibility. Tight end games have been our Achilles heel under Scheyer's coaching...the trend had reversed this year but this one showed that the problem has not gone away completely

I know you never turn down talent but could be the same for us next year if we get Rippey. Is it a possibility next year we start Rippey, Smith, Nik/Harris, Williams, and a big? Talk about inexperience

If we recruit 4 to 5 five stars every year we will always be talented but young. We seem to be sticking to that

Huh? How do you figure? I don’t deny all the five stars come with their issues from time to time , but they’ve absolutely kept the program ultra competitive.
What? You’re replying to my post that has nothing to do with what you are implying. It’s like you just randomly responded to a post.

But you’re under the impression the game hasn’t changed . We went after Lee and he went to Florida .
biggest cost on this loss was for 20 minutes Dukes guards kept Anderson to 4 points . The last 20 he erupted for 22 points . The guards have got to do better and I’m not sure Foster or Cayden are true ph’s they are combo guards . Sarr used his length on Anderson but got in foul trouble and never was a factor in the second . Scheyer has to figure out how to get him or Khamenia going offensively.

This team has been in love with the 3 the past decade. It may explain how we run hot and cold. Our response to not hitting 3s seems to be keep shooting them, which usually works. I was going to mention how our slow starts would catch up with us but it's hard not to sound stupid saying that when we are 10 and 0. I mentioned last year that we would cut the nets down if we won by 10 plus but if we were tied with two minutes left we were there for the taking. We all agree we will have a good season but there are definitely things to work on to get as far as last year. Wins can cover up flaws so a L is not the worst thing in the world.

Good post Chris. Duke did find a rhythm when Cayden started attacking the basket causing Tech to pull from the perimeter. Think we just might see a starting line up of Cayden and Foster next game just to see if that opens up lanes more.

You responded to a post that said we are recruiting 4 to 5 five stars each year which means we will be talented but young. You said that’s untrue? Unless I missed something else then my fault!

I said it was untrue that “we will always be young” sorry for the confusion.

Good points Chris. I tell myself I'm not gonna get worked up over one loss, but that isn't true. What I'm hoping for is that the entire team is really upset over this game, We screwed the pooch, getting beat by a shorthanded team. From my recliner, it looked like Texas Tech wanted it more.

There's no other program around that gets the attention that Duke does. Every team plays harder, and more focused against Duke. I am not a Dan Hurley fan, but after their loss to Arizona, he said something like Arizona came for a street fight, and we didn't. His team has played tougher since then.

I'm not saying our guys don't care. But I think our mindset has to change.

Does Jay Williams have any eligibility left??

I agree that guard play is an issue compounded by the fact that none of our wings can get to the rim either. Jack up a ton of 3's and shoot 50% from the FT line = a recipe for a loss and an potentially and early NCAA exit against a mediocre team.
