While watching the game my initial thought on that first pass was "WTF, did the ball slip out of his hand?" On the 2nd pass in your clip, I wonder if that was a broken play and was supposed to be a wheel route that TW sat down on.

In both cases, not a good look for the new QB.

Did you watch the game?

The lost fumbled snap at the 50 was his big chance. He blew it.
I think we blew it as a fanbase when we thought we would be getting a savior at QB. I feel like our SWARM brethren that donates got swindled into investing into a bad investment.

Got sold that we would be getting a great QB who then had to have surgery without fully releasing this info to the donating public. Then we see the product we were sold go for possibly a historic Iowa low of 44 yards and make horrible throws that HS freshman would have hit.

If the numbers are correct, he's making a million dollars and so with that money he's expected to perform. I highly doubt he plans to give any of it back when he plays poorly so he deserves the criticism because the expectations were high.

I mean I wouldn’t give it back but Jesus, people need to be held accountable for this fiasco if he keeps putting up these type of stats.

No one would give it back, but then criticism comes with the money. Someone is not making good decisions and as you said earlier, the people donating the money are going to feel they didn't get what they paid for.

Give him a break. It's one game. Once we got a decent lead it was run right, run left. We dominated the line on offense. I don't believe coach really wanted to show much after that and I'm happy about that. If it happens with state then we can go off the deep edge. GO HAWKS!!!
It was 10-7 with about 2 mins to go in the first half lol

Oh yeah I agree, I’m going to criticize the hell out of this for how it all played out. Hopefully MG can shut my yapper and I’ll say I’m wrong but until then I will:

Meanwhile, Purdue's QB threw for over 300 yards. Why is it so easy for other teams to find a QB that can throw but so hard for Iowa?

For some reason we like to bring in hurt QB's and designate them the starter. Then combine that with KF never wanting to replace his chosen QB and here we are. The problem is, I'm not sure our defense can keep the team competitive this year.

It’s truly unbelievable how bad we are at this. Even if Bud Elliott’s evaluation is correct, that our receivers are mostly “MAC quality”…that doesn’t mention still that MAC TEAMS HAVE BETTER PASSING OFFENSES THAN WE DO.

You aren't wrong, but we were also trying to throw a ton. I think we went 2 possessions (one for sure) without running. A team like Albany wasn't going to have depth to deal with our run game all 4 quarters.

I feel like that was the game plan. Play the first half a little more loosely to see what happens and then just pound the ball to see out the game.

A total aside that means nothing... I'm glad Wetjen got the first passing TD.

"We blew it as the fanbase"?

Don't blame that on me that a 2 time MVP of the FCS championship game is QB1.

Who else yah got?

Hate to say it but he’s probably right this week. Big in-state rivalry road game begs for the Ferentz “establish the run” formula.
Granowski himself may record 10-12 carries.

Nevertheless, you have to keep the ISU defense somewhat honest….. which begs for another Ferentz special: target the TEs.
Ostrenga and/or Oertworth your time has arrived. Look for passes to Gill also.

I have no idea how the Iowa defense will perform. If Brecht isn’t pressured often enough, he will probably feast. Need a big step up from Week1.

Turnovers & Special Teams always seem to impact this matchup. Hawks could use a blocked kick or punt return Saturday. I think the margin - either way - will be a TD or less.

We ran 21 times and threw 10 in the first half. There was one 3 and out that was 3 pass plays.

If this ends up another fiasco like Cade the responsibility lies totally on Kirk and Lester not the fans. Not a good look for The Swarm either withholding the medical info until he signed the big contract.

Gronowski's success at the FCS level has nothing to do with his current condition and ability to succeed at the Big Ten level. We pushed aside two QBs Brendan Sullivan and Jackson Stratton who played well for us last season. Kirk has said he doesn't want to go to the portal next spring and have the QBs in the program compete. Day late and a million $$$ short on that one Kirk.

The man may well be re-injured.
Re-read the early part of the game thread.
Is so, we should not rip on him.

(Of course if he is re-injured, The Capt needs to start Hank against State.)

MG said in an interview that's online he was looking to get paid to pay for his surgery because his parents insurance did not cover it. No surprise of his intent or injury.

Good info as I haven't listened to the interview. Not Iowa's responsibility to pay him or give him the top notch medical care that the university provides. When it gets down to football this looks like a bad investment if he can't physically perform to the level expected of a million dollar QB.

Yeah pretty much as Fran bought that to the attention of most that Iowa is at the bottom of the B10 in NIL funds.

Hell the head of the Swarm fund had to kick in his own cash to cover payments to players for being under funded.
If the HC can give 1 million to the hospital, does that mean he (or maybe his wealthy offspring) is allowed to give $$ to some fund?
Can the U itself contribute to some fund that procures players?
TBH if kids are getting 7 figures to play sports it's time for the Feds to stop spreading around taxpayer cash to colleges. The idea that college sports should have professional sports budgets with professional sports salaries is insane.

Deservedly so. Put in Hank Brown!!

FWIW, have you seen Iowa's local beat writers? Doubt many ever played the game. They are not worthy of carrying his jock strap.

First game, always starts slow. Looked good running the ball, missed a few throws and several wide open receivers but he'll get better. Kirk always keeps thing close to the vest in game one. Generally our biggest improvements are between week 1 and week 2.

I will not make judgements until we play Indiana. If we are 4-1 or 5-0 it vould be a very good year. 3-2 and I'll be disappointed.

Maybe these 2 experiences with Cade and MG factored into that comment. He probably figures that they were able to produce really poor QB play without going to the portal.

That is one excellent question that KF and Lester should be asked repeatedly until they can give some sort of logical response. That almost every team in America has at least one QB who can pass the ball down the field, except Iowa, is a mystery for the ages.

My advice, FWIW, is prepare to be disappointed. Based on the historical facts and Saturday's evidence, Iowa may finish 2-10. They could improve significantly and still finish 2-10. I think it will take a miracle for Iowa to even stay competitive on Saturday. ISU smells blood, and they have a QB who just completed 19-20 while Iowa's threw for 44 yards because he was nervous. LOL

The defense will be mediocre, especially by Iowa standards, and the one-dimensional offense will be stuffed time and time again. Special teams? Yah, sure.

I was done with KF in 2014. My sincere hope is that Beth Goetz shows KF the door when this disaster of a season is over. Or maybe miracles do still occur. Saturday should give us a much better view of the future, but I'm tired of all the talk about the Shanahan offense. I want to see it. And Saturday gave no one any reason to believe the talk was anything more than so much hot air.

Campbell is not going to f around. He's going to attack our secondary. He'll be the anti-Kirk. It's not gonna be pretty
