bad move, but probably setting up for a fake field goal defense and didn't want the D to get
fooled
This loss just makes the haters happy and gives then a chance to sprout s#1t

Attempting to freeze a kicker who doesn't have the leg strength but let's the other team see the field goal is unmakable. Absolutely stupid and useless
Kicker had hit a 59 yarder and that kick was long enough.

but agree.. very stupid... and it gets worse..

1) Kicker is gainst the wind trying a 58-yarder.. it is a mistake to go for the kick.. let the opponent make that mistake.

2) Called the T/O so late that kicker got to see how the wind affected the kick.. he could have adjusted.

3) They come out to go for the 13 yards they need instead and WE DO NOT THEN CALL A TIMEOUT.

I like GS and what he has done for teh team, especially with all the injuries this year.. but this one is on him.

All the haters are going to have a justifiable moment of outrage today.

it's not about being haters
he makes millions to coach this team and what you just saw was dad level coaching in pop warner. there is zero defense of making such a monumentally dumb call

now I know there are some successful people on these boards but some of you act as if you have never had any real responsibility or were middle managers your whole life. This type of management is inexcusable!!!!!!

no depth on the team in year 5
took 5yrs to actually get a qb
could easily go on here....
but he continues to coach like he's painting by numbers

and you guys want us to contribute money to this guy? lol no, . I wouldn't give RU football the price of a cup of coffee with this dipshit in charge

Greg is overpaid for what he does here

And you play man and blitz. They didn’t have TOs left just keep them contained on the field and try to keep them from beating you deep.
Just dumb
I thought Bryant would have just given himself up to stop the clock and allow for a closer FG attempt but he had other ideas. I guess given the lack of pursuit the RU defense also thought he was going down.

Greg Schiano

Never won an out right conference championship in THE BIG LEAST

never taken Rutgers to a New Year’s Day bowl.

Never been to the BCS

Never been to a B1G conference title game

Never been to a playoff game

Never gone to a New Year’s Eve bowl

Makes fans like you think that going to Alabama, Detroit , and staying home in New York is worth being paid Multi millions for

You are a sucker if you think Greg Schiano is anything other than a mediocre head coach.

******* pathetic fan base, university. It’s ******* embarrassing to be an RU grad.

Greg Schiano is so dumb he made this fan base think mediocrity was a good thing

We can’t even get to upper mediocrity in a year when everything was stacked in our favor including the softest schedule we’ve had since 2013.

In an 18 team league I’m pretty sure lower mediocrity is going to be our cap.

Bielema said he was glad Greg called the timeout. He realized the odds were better going of it were better than FG,
The missed FG convinced him of that.
And then when they went back on the field with the offense, that was the right time to call a timeout and reset the defense and get everyone settled down. He had a timeout left and should have use it when he saw them deciding to go for it. So a terrible timeout call and a terrible non timeout call.

This part is overlooked too. Why would you not call one there once you saw they were going for it? Reset your defense. Maybe come up with something better than an all out blitz. Three mind boggling decisions in the span of seconds. Any one of them might have preserved the win, but all three are botched, and here we are.

It was mentioned in the other thread but you can’t call 2 timeouts in a row on the same dead ball.

I think that was a rule change maybe 5-7 years ago or so.

Leaving the stadium tonight was the loudest I have heard the grumbling regarding Schianos continues poor in game coaching and decision making.

His success rate with defensive timeouts has to be near zero. I have seen more touchdowns out of defensive timeouts than successful stops.

just beyond dumb, I'm actually dumbfounded at just how bad this guy is on gameday

in addition, multiple studies have demonstrated that icing doesn't work!

Radio guys are trying to be kind, they are trying to be positive but even they are just dumbfounded

Ill was forced to kick and couldn't change out to the offense. calling a TO there is Mario Cristobol level of stupid
It’s because the HC (head chimp) isn’t paid enough. If he got another raise and extension he would be a much better coach

It must have been the right call because Coach made it. He is around the team.a lot more than we are. He knows what's best.

Because you cannot do that since the 2 minute TO was put into place in 2023.
Bitching is great guys but you need to know the rules. You can NO longer call back to back defensive timeouts.

College football rule changes: No consecutive timeoutsStarting in the 2023 season, teams will no longer be allowed to call consecutive timeouts without a play in between or the opposing team calling a timeout in between.Aug 22, 2023

You can't be serious with that post, right?
Schiano floated that excuse, but Not a snowballs chance in hell a team tries a fake on 4th and long, no timeouts and almost no time left. Besides, if you call a TO for that reason you don’t need to wait for to ice the kicker. You call it when they line up. Schiano embarrassed himself like almost never before. But he makes 7 mil, so he must know what he’s doing LOL.

Haven't read the whole thread, but has clock management when we had the ball been discussed? Why on earth did we rush to throw the pass to KM? No way I snap that ball until the play clock is under 10. You run that clock down and leave them no time. He's so inept in-game.

This. If he was going to "ice" the kicker the timeout should have been called prior to the kick. Illinois coach basically thanked Rutgers for calling the timeout.
Technically yes, icing means giving the guy more time to think about it…but in common practice and lingo it also means making kicker kick twice. So you are right in terminology but that’s not the point.
