Greg Brown needs to get both sides back to the table

Where are you Greg Brown? This process requires your presence to get done. There needs to be an intermediary that forces both the university and Schiano back to the table to rationally finish this out. There is literally no other way for anyone to win in this or even save face and that includes the fan base.

Hobbs is doomed if any other coach gets hired because the majority of fans won’t accept him. Just get back to the negotiations and finish this up already. Rutgers football program is in absolute crisis mode and not getting out of it unless Schiano gets hired. Damn, even our negotiators suck.

Where does Greg Brown stand? You would think he has enough influence as the head of the athletic subcommittee to get this back on track if he wanted to.

I've said it before and I will continue saying it until someone from the BOG claims otherwise: If the BOG wanted to meet GS's demands, he would be the coach right now.

If the BOG wanted GS to be hired, and Hobbs prevented that from happening, Hobbs would have been fired already.

At some point you all are going to have to face facts.... GS's demands were insane. Outside of a blue blood hiring a top, top coach those demands would not have been met anywhere. Especially for a guy of GS caliber. While we all obviously wish the school would invest like that in football, its simply not realistic without donor money to pay for it.

Does Greg still want the job? I've been wondering if this really isn't Schiano's gambit. Pull back and let the Hobbs, etc. al. withstand a firestorm of media and fan outrage to force RU's hand and out of their silence. Or did he withdrawn and really say, "F&$# it, I'm done"? For all we know they could already be back at the negotiating table.

I don’t think so or you wouldn’t see Eric and the other alumni asking for Rutgers to turn this around and do the right thing.

No back at the negotiating table? That would take leadership and would be the right thing to do. This is dear ole Rutgers.

The school has made it clear they aren't making the investment. You have made it clear you are okay with that and willing to support that. Some of us want all in or we are done with this school

Brown is on the Board & a Schiano supporter. He knows that the votes are NOT there to okay spending of that kind of money on athletics.

How do you see anything changing now? Sadly it’s over

Sadly that may be the case but we as fans are only led to believe that talks ceased. Seems like there should be room for final compromise to get this approved. The deal is on the threshold; so get it done!

The only way it changes is if donors step up and close the gap. Immediately.

Hmm ... Why does this sound like the threats from those liberals from California who promised to leave the country when Trump was elected?
The difference is it is much easier to stop watching or giving money to Rutgers.

And believe me, you can leave a country without physically leaving.

You don't prepare a 200 page binder report if you don't want the job. You don't break down every player on the roster. You dont start reaching out to the portal players, you dont recruit.

He wanted the job. He wanted to turn us into a B1G program. Hes learned from the best as to how to make that happen.

To say he went through all of this and didnt want the job is ludicrous

If the 5 billionaires each gave $25M they could say THEY are the reason Rutgers football exists and would be correct. They haven’t so I don’t expect them to now.

Where are the big boy donors. Where is Brown? Where is Towers? Where is Garutti? Where is Radkin? We need these gentleman to voice their displeasure. Hobbs is not a Rutgers guy. Hobbs is not a football guy. The President of the university is a LAME DUCK and doesn't care what happens next. The University chose to go Big. They need to step up to the plate and put their bog boy pants on and get this deal done with Schiano. They were insulted when Greg told them what he thought of the program. Grow up and grow a pair. Act like a Big Ten School. We are in the best conference in America. Negotiate and get it done or else i am done!

Well apparently you arent paying attention to attendence at the stadium this year einstein

I understand your frustration but it’s a lost cause. The BoG make up is pro education over athletics. I have learned a lot about Rutgers, the political red tape & the IVY league dreams in the past 2 months.

The only hope is private donations at this point. The BoG make up needs to change that happens by voting out obstructionist. Unfortunately that takes time since you have to wait for their seat to come up for re-election.

Where are you Greg Brown?

I don't know that you can assume that Brown is still on board with Schiano. If Sarge's article is correct, a deal was close on Tuesday, and Schiano came back with new, significant, demands on Wednesday.

If Brown was supporting Schiano, and getting reluctant BOG members to support the Tuesday deal, it is possible that the new demands on Wednesday may have caused Brown to re-evaluate his commitment to Schiano.

they relied on Hobbs and hibbs told the less informed that schianos demands were unreasonable. Hence the bog backed off. Hobbs sabatoged it. Wake up

You may be entirely correct. We don’t know but assuming he is; then get the two sides talking and get it done. If he is out then we are screwed on this pursuit I suppose.

This was Schiano's VISION.

I have no inside info, but with 100% certainty, Hobbs holds no such long term plan.

Which would you support?

Hobbs shouldn't be fired, he should actually fall on his sword and resign. Wont happen, but I dream big. LOL.

I highly doubt he went through the countless hours of negotiations, on top of putting together a 200 page scouting report, talking to potential assistants, and searching the transfer portal without ever wanting to take the job.

Ivy dreams ? What is this 1972. That ship sailed a long time ago and by the way to the Rutgers 1000 types Stanford has a pretty darn good sports program and I would say their academics are far superior to us so stop that tired argument. We owe it peer members to be competitive.

Hm. Your post and the Sarge article have me close to flip-flopping on Hobbs. This is the whole issue....we all want the investment in the program. I 100% do not think Schiano was the best coach to get it done, but he is probably the only coach that could get Rutgers to significantly up the timeline to make an appropriate investment, which carries the benefit of actually making a "splash" and letting you say "today is a new today," rather than building slowly to that point with a Norvell or whoever over the next 5 years or so.

But all of that said, this is so f*cked now, I think I am coming around to support canning Hobbs and hiring Schiano. I didn't want GS because I thought we could do better. But now this has been so boogered up that no one better is going to take the job. Norvell is now a pipe dream. So I think the latitude I was willing to give Hobbs - to go out and make the best hire - is now misplaced. He already messed it up. So perhaps he should be shown the door before he makes his mistakes irreversible by closing the circle and actually hiring a lesser coach.

If he is still on board, he would at least get Rutgers to the table. Even if Hobbs isn't happy about it, he would go back to the negotiating table if Brown insisted upon it.

It’s 2 different discussions
The word was capitalized for a reason.
Meaning education over athletics not that they want to be in the Ivy League.

Having quality athletics is separate.
Stanford has always been committed to compete. Although they make NO concessions to their recruits on academic requirements. So David Shaw has to recruit from a limited talent pool each year.

I’m convinced that the Rutgers BoG as currently constructed won’t make that commitment.
Is Hobbs the sacrificial lamb? IDK but it’s appears that the big 4 aren’t all in on Greg anymore either.

The fact is NO one honestly knows what all transpired. Lots of speculation about who asked for what & what was agreed to. All things WE will never know.

Because they think they can rush a hire through Thanksgiving weekend and the idiots all fall back in line
That is Hobbs' end game. I wonder if has BOG votes to make that happen.

Who are the voting members for the BOG?

What about your esteemed governor, does he get a pass with all this ? I know it's not technically his role but seems to me if he got himself involved he could make a difference.
