Having a good start to the season for SDSU. He has some great feet and cut backs, but he still hits a wall win he gets going full speed. Kind of weird.

he never had the speed the recruiting services said he did.
True. To add to that, I found a high school SPARK score on Greg Bell and it was low. Like not qualified to even walk on low. Apparently, Bell has good instincts and vision but he's slow and not very strong.

he went for 104 yards on 13 carries for Neb against CU

he could have helped the team by not needing to have Wandale take such a beating last year

and as for not qualified to walkon - Wyatt M was far down the depth chart at RB compared to Bell

nothing shown to date would indicate he wouldn't have continued to receive meaningful carries at Neb if it was just a talent question

He is a serviceable D1 back. I agree that he has great vision and instincts. but not break away speed. His biggest issues at Nebraska had nothing to do with his lack of speed. He fumbled too much, got dinged up too much and wouldn't compete when Ozigbo took his starting spot. Like another poster mentioned, he was good enough to help us if he had chose to stick around and compete instead of taking his ball and going home.

Neither Bell nor Ozigbo have been top shelf backs here (although Ziggy had a great senior year). In thinking about it, we haven't had a really good running back since Ameer.

I'm hoping we get to see more of a real running game and also get better looks at the younger guys (Thompkins, Scott, Morrison)

He was in the mix for #1 back that year. Be bitter all you want, he would have been helpful to have around if his attitude had been good.

can't think of transfers as like 10 years ago. Transfers are just a part of the game now. Just exacerbates the importance of recruiting and player development because really young guys are going to see the field as RSH FRESH and Sophomores, and grads are going to be skipping town. I like it for kids because there is a lot of talent wasted by idiotic coaches having agendas or favorites but it is hard to build a team over years of development...kids just aren't going to pander to coaches and sit if they think they are better.

I just remember him getting chased down very very easily by a CU defender after breaking in the open. He was so far ahead of everyone else, seemed like he would walk in but showed he didn't have much speed.

Pelini’s team always had a workhouse back to carry the offense. Helu, Burkhead, Ameer. Not having a guy like that has really hurt. BTW, I think that is a big reason his 9 win streak was going to come to an end the year he got fired. Newby couldn’t carry the offense like those guys did.

I didn't say any of that and I agree with everything you said. I'm just saying that his HS SPARQ score was very low. As for the walk on comment, I think a lot of our walk ons actually have pretty good athleticism & upside and that's why they are getting a shot at walking on. And sure, if he would have stayed at NU he certainly would have remained a contributor but unfortunately Bell was a quitter.
