Couple of suggestions. See the thread linked above.
1. For tailgating, try to get over to the blue or yellow lots, preferably blue.
2. If you have time tomorrow and/or Friday, figure out if you want to go to NYC (short train ride from New Brunswick) or get down to the beach (45 minute car ride from New Brunswick). Highly recommend Asbury Park. Great restaurants, shops and night life on both Cookman Ave and on the Boardwalk.
Have fun. New Mexico is a beautiful state.
One of the most amazing things a visiting fan can do on a Rutgers football game day is to visit the front of the Blue Lot and seek out the napping Screw. I reckon it's kind of like spotting a Pokemon, but way more fun and rewarding.
If you can find the time hop on a train and go to NYC. The train will drop you off at Penn Station which is in the heart of Manhattan. The station is right under Madison Square Garden,about a 10 minute walk to Times Square and a 10 minute subway ride (which you'll talk about for a long time back home) to the World Trade Center. If you've never been in this neck of the woods it's a must do.
Yes that thread was thorough. Spend minimal time in NB/Piscataway to check out the campus and focus on NYC and the Jersey shore (or perhaps in NYC get over to the water and take a tour by boat or ferry-ie. New York Waterways.
NYC-Empire state building, statue of Liberty (actually in NJ), 9/11 memorial and new tower, Broadway ("TKTS" ticket booths for same day discounted ticket sales), Times Square, Museums, Yankees or Mets (need to take sub way) if in town.. Jets and Giants (Meadowlands-East Rutherford NJ-MetLife Stadium). The pror and Red Bull Stadium (soccer) are accessible via the Northeast corridor train line and connections (actually ditto is the shore in many spots.
Concerts-lesser to an extent outsidecof summer-amongst else check out MetLife Stadium, Prudenial Center in Newark, PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel on Parkway (often ethnic festivals vs shows this time of year), and smaller theatre types of venues in
NYC, NJ (including Boardwalk Hall in AC and the casinos on both sides of AC-The Borgata on the bay side of AC has great shows year round).
Jersey shore
***check to see if and where lifeguards R on duty-it is now off-season. The weather could still be great and the beaches free at this point but few if any lifeguards (weekend only if any).
Nicest beaches-Long beach island (45-60 minutes North of AC-may be to far-Exit 63)
Cape May-farthest point south-likely too far away at 3+ hourds.
Stone Harbor down to cape May area-again likely too far.
Island Beach State Park-Exit 88? Parkway near seaside heights.
Beaches/towns with boardwalks with much to do (at least in the summer)
1)Atlantic City-seedy and somewhat dirty town w crime (thank you Trump)the middle the most active boardwalk year round and it has casinos!
2) Seaside heights- a bit of a seedy town of "Jersey Shore"fame" but likely MUCH nicer now that the oft 14-21 aged crowd is back in school. Likely some establishments open but likely not too many. Other people on here likely better experts on seaside.
3) Long Branch-rebuilt over last decade now has a great reputation with bars and restaurants but perhaps too upscale in places. 7 Presidents park is supposed to be very nice.
4) Ocean City-no experience with. Supposedly a great boardwalk with much to do but offseason now and again very far south.
Quieter Type Boardwalks
1) Point Pleasant NJ-lumping here as its offseason and the private owner Jenkinsons Corporation shuts beach after Labor day. Some rides could stll be open and some vendors/Jenkinson's Aquarium still likely open. ~Exit 98 Parkway. In season most parking very expensive and touch. However now offseason.
2) Belmar NJ-most familiar with-not much to do typically on small boardwalk but a very nice quieter boardwalk near the ocean. Lots of food establishments (some open some will be closed) along the strip across from the boardwalk. Adequte free parking away from the beach (metered parking now $2/hour). The one nice think at least in season re Belmar is that you can hop on Route 18 north (thus avoiding the Parkway) and be in New Brunswick in 45 min-60 mnutes). Note: Bruce wrote the iconic "Born To RUn" in Belmar in a House on E Street near the intersection with 10th Avenue (another tourist spot).
3) Asbury Park-traditionally seedy if not dangerous has been rebuilt/gentrified recently (slowly over past 15 years). Not much recent experience with boardwalk but nicer than in past (I was there in August 2002 in the early AM for Bruce's "Today Show" appearance and after most left the boardwalk and ocean looked absolutely heavenly (note probably my only early AM beach visit so likely applkes to most). **Many come to Asbury Park to see the iconic "Stone Pony" club where Bruce has played (often as a surprise guest) throughout his career (don't know who will be in town but Bruce will probably be in NJ as his book tour starts in Freehold (where he grew up) later that week. From my experience if you are there after dark keep your eyes peeled as there is crime (better than it vused to be) and some of the bars near the pony cater to bikers (personally never a problem) and rap types (the police have been called when I was at the Pony.

However if you're only here for a few days and you've never been there you have to go to the capital of the world...New York!! There about a gazillion things to do there but if you do thw world Trade Center and Times Square you'll be doing OK. Bring lots of $$$$ though.

"the napping Screw" I spit my tea out reading that one. It is so perfect a description. ( @RutgersRaRa is going to be jealous he didn't think of that )
I've just been paying attention to the great, funny descriptions by RaRa, you and others in your tailgate crew over the years. The legend of the napping Screw has become part of RU tailgating lore.

New York City is a must see if you never been here but you may not want to go again after that. It might start getting a bit cold for the Beach.
There is plenty to do in and around campus in New Brunswick and Piscataway. It just depends on what you want to do but I think it would be nice to see one of the oldest colleges in the United States at least.

Woah, this is a revelation. Screw is a tailgate napper? This needs to be posted in hopes of teaching a lesson.

And everybody knows that all the best tailgaters are tailgate nappers. There only so much eating and drinking and socializing one can do. It's important to get some shut-eye so as to build one's strength for cheering on one's team.
Nicely done, Mildone! Here forward, from September through bowl season, Mr. Screw is to be referred to as The Napping Screw or The Napping One. No matter what, Mrs. Queen Screw is putting it in her Royal Journal to be read to the royal grandkids from the Blue Lot Castle she's having built over the next ten years.
Which is why the Napping Screw is so alert when he watches the replays the next day.

@MrsScrew and her tailgate crew are among the first to arrive for games - even for 8PM games they show up at 7 AM ish. When I accompany her that that time I usually start off the tailgate catching up on lost sleep from the 6Am wakeup time.
I can't agree with this. Never before have I napped at a tailgate.
It's going to be a minute for me to process this news, as widespread and well known as it appears to be.
Early returns are the Screw needs to be tightened up on his tailgate game!
it should be known that @RUScrew85 does not shop, cook, pack, set up, or unpack the car for tailgates. He does help to breakdown the tailgate. He's just not a morning person and, he will willingly tell you, I have taken over the tailgating part of this relationship.
The one thing he does REALLY well for the tailgate is that, for the past 2 years, he is in the photo that RU takes of the tailgate of the game and I am not. Because I go to the Scarlet Walk and, in some wonderful Rutgers wisdom, that is when they send out the photographer to take the photo.

C'mon. It's really hard work sleeping in the midst of a tailgate. Children screaming, the band warming up, the sound of forceful nasal inhaling and moaning hookers drifting over from the yellow lot... there are many things that would prevent a lesser man from napping in that setting.

Downtown Asbury Park and the beach front are relatively crime free. It's when you venture west of Main street where you may run into issues. There are too many places to mention now on Cookman Avenue and along the beach front an Kingsley Avenue where you may run into not only Bruce, but Bon Jovi or South Side Johnny. Have fun!
I too am a very light sleeper.
In Mr. Screw's case, I believe it's his gentle loving nature that allows him the ability to sleep anywhere with ease. He is at peace with the world around him.
THAT, MrsScrew, qualifies YOU for a NEW CAR! (That's the price I would be paying!)
I actually just got a new car last week...
but in all seriousness. MrScrew does not like to shop or cook and he is pretty grumpy early in the morning. Having me happily doing all of this and even leaving him home on late game days when my crew is still setting up at 7am has saved our marriage!

Everybody has been to New York. I would guess most people who'd fly in for a football game would have flown in to NYC before.
Even if you assume 1/2 of all americans have been to NYC you're still talking about 150 million who haven't.
