They should, they've been better and have the better coach. Until MSU steps up and starts winning, nothing will change. I think we're more talented and improved than the past 2 years, but is it enough to win on the road? MN will be well coached and disciplined, can MSU avoid major mistakes, turnovers, make the routine plays, and overcome home field advantage? We all hope they can. To me, it would be a HUGE win for our program.
Most think it will be close on there; you do have a couple of deranged Gophers too. I like the smart *** who gave the quarter by quarter scoring.
I don’t blame anybody for being confident against us considering what we have put on the field the past several years. That being said, this year’s team feels different. We shall see.
I am usually surprised at how much better we look when wr play at home v on the road. At home it’s like we’re a half step faster and stronger. Ok the road it’s the same v the other team. So I am keeping that in mind - things are just tougher on the road. Plus it’s going to be cold up there - in the 70s.
It will feel golden even if we win by 1.

That huge win was Arizona State last year. But then it was nullified by the Texas loss.
Minnesota is more like a game we HAVE to win, for Lebby to continue. Lose, and it's over. Pressure is on us.
It is an important game, but it's not a must win. We could lose this game and beat South Carolina, Vandy, Auburn, TN Tech to get to 5 wins. And if we pull off an upset or if one of the other 6 just isn't as good a projected we could get to 6.
Our team speed is pretty brutal. This team is different than past years. Our defense shows up in a big way and the offense does their thing.

Oh I disagree big time. One of the last games on the schedule that we'll out-talent the opponent (Vandy/TTech the others). All we've heard is talent talent talent for months, well we have to show it here.
Not to mention, if we lose this game, it'll beat us twice the next week at Carolina.
I watched a bit of them vs E. Illinois. They did not look very fast on defense. I think our speed will challenge them. Their o-line did look better than our d- line looked. But hard to really tell when there's no blitzing or stunts but I think it's biggest area of concern based on small sample size.
Our o-line and tackles in particular looked much better than last year. They will have a much stronger challenge this week. Their d-line rush may be diminished if they try to drop 8 and/or keep a spy on K1.

I think a lot of people are underestimating Minnesota. Most seem to think it's the 3rd easiest game on the schedule. I think it's more like the 7th easiest.
Our people just need to prepare for this being the biggest clash of contrasting styles we have all year. We want to turn this into a track meet, they want to make this game as ugly as possible and win 17-13. I suspect that lends itself to us hitting one or two big chunk plays and also turning it over a couple of times. Will probably come down to whether or not our defense can get off the field against an offense that wasn’t good last year.

Then I don't think we know between Minnesota, USCe, and Auburn. If we have a lot of teams be surprisingly mediocre like last year, they could be 7th easiest. Ole Miss certainly didn't look great but they still have more talent than it looked like.
No different than Zona State fans last year and NC State in 21. We win this one … Big. To much speed and speed KILLS.

Feels like a mirror of this board - close game, your team pulls it out in the end. My guess is it looks a lot like the Ole Miss - Louisville game the other night - tight first half with defenses dominating and one team playing slow as molasses to try and limit opponent's offensive possessions and keep the opponent's defense on the field. Second half defensive lines are less active, things open up and there's a lot of scores. That feels like our advantage if we limit mistakes in the first half, and can manage to get possessions in the second. If we struggle to stop the run they'll eat up the clock.
Minnesota has (maybe) the best Defensive Lineman in the best (or 2nd best) conference. Anthony Smith. He will be a huge problem for whoever he lines up against. McVay is ok, but he's not elite. KT will have to deal with pressure all day. If we can open running lanes and execute quick passes and hot reads, then we can have some success. But, we're not going to have clean pockets very often Saturday. Minnesota has multiple players at every level that are in the all Big 10 1st 3 strings. It's going to be tough going.
On the flip side, they have an immobile QB and 1 good WR. We should be able to generate some pressure too. We need to keep Kelley Jones on him and force their QB to make risky throws. We don't have to shut down the running game, but we need to limit long runs (obviously), and get off the field when we get to 3rd down.

It's absolutely a must win. If the goal is six wins, there's no path that doesn't involve a couple of massive upsets if we lose to MN.
You can get to 6 by beating SC, Mizzou, Auburn, Vandy, TN Tech and I wouldn’t call any of those big upsets.
But I would argue the goal is 7 or 8 and you need to win Saturday for any realistic hope of that.
SC on the road, Mizzou, and Auburn would all be pretty big upsets for me. And even if they're minor upsets, you'd have to sweep all of them with a MN loss. And let's be honest, that's not happening.
I’m not sure what the point spread on the SC game will be, probably depends on Saturday, but I think there’s a decent chance we are home favorites against Mizzou and Auburn.
Maybe Auburn. Zero chance we are favored against Mizzou in my opinion. Either way, they'd be 50-50 games at best and odds aren't likely that we sweep all the 50-50 games.
I would probably feel pretty confident if I were them too; if I only knew our results the last three years. What I don't think is obvious to them is the guy we have at QB, the speed we have at WR, and the depth we have at RB, not too mention a competent coach now calling plays for the D.
Totally disagree. With all the excitement in the fan base and eyes on Kamario, it’s crucial to go on the road and beat a team with a pulse. We lose this game, the “same old Mississippi State” mentality kicks in. It’s also huge to carry that momentum into Columbia versus having to regroup after week two. It’s a must win game.
If we win 1 of the next 2, there will be plenty of excitement for the Missouri game. And I think South Carolina is a better chance for a win.
Agreed, but our future chances improve after a road win against a quality opponent. Therefore, my position to win when we can, and we definitely can and need to win this game Saturday. It’s simply the domino effect.
Not on the prediction thread but some of them on another thread basing their offense doing really well based on our defense the past two seasons. I am guessing they don't know our DC was a different person and now got someone who understands how to coach defense.
We’re the same team going into Columbia if we win by 3 or lose by 3 Saturday. Of course a win would be great, and obviously gives us a chance to win both. But a loss isn’t a killer. Gives us virtually zero room for error going forward though. Fans get too emotional.
After watching the recorded games from this weekend and you can't really look too much into it, the only four teams that are absolutely off the table for us is Ou, TX, LSU and Bama. Those four are loaded, looked good without a lot of mistakes. The other SEC teams didn't look unsurmountable. Also OLe MIss is not a top 10 team. In fact both them and Auburn looked like ****.
