It's been a while since we've had the opportunity to make fun of Yancy and the boys, but this article is pure goodness about their top four recruiting misses.

It's funny because it's a celebration of failure. It's sad and pathetic because they actually thought they had a shot with McKnight and Chris Jones.

https://247sports.com/college/missi...isses-in-Ole-Miss-football-history-146839935/

Even for them to admit Chris Jones was a “miss” (along with Fletcher Cox as honorable mention) is groundbreaking for them.

For as long as I can remember, any recruit that chose MSU, they never recruited. The last 10 years of NFL MSU success must’ve really taken a toll on that narrative.

That's why they only talk about 4 or 5 in the article. We all know they swing and miss often. Yancy should be jacked like a young Schwarzenegger for all the water he totes.

In between the Trump, COVID/flu, killer hornet pissing matches on here, this is the good stuff I need in my veins.

I've also enjoyed the past few weeks where they did a deep dive on Nakobe Dean and Cam Akers' recruitment. Ole Miss was always completely above board until the rival schools found daddy.

Reading the Chris Jones piece reminded me once again as to how unbelievable it is that OM didn’t get something very close to the death penalty for the entire Freeze era. Most blatant and public circus of college football cheating since SMU

Yeah that article is pathetic, it felt like a puff piece about how great OM could have been.

If you want to measure misses, our biggest recent miss (Cam Newton) had the strongest possibility of delivering a championship.

That is the whiniest article I think Ive ever read.
Like a middle school girls diary about all the boys she could have dated if she wasn’t so damn ugly.
Really pathetic

Is our #1 Cam Newton? #2 AJ Brown?

Would Jason Campbell make the top 4?
No doubt. Those two plus Deuce McAllister, then maybe C.J. Johnson. Raekwon Davis is another big one. Maybe those Dickson boys from the Coast. Jermaine Whitehead. Jason Campbell. Jamie Collins.

I base mine mostly on folks that should have gone to MSU, had connections, etc.

Frank Gore’s son just signed with USM, and will be playing there in the fall (or spring....or whenever there is a season). You’ll have an NFL RB still playing at the same time as his son is playing RB at an FBS school. Think about how many things have to line up for that to happen.

In my time following OM sports I would say T.Y. Hilton was the biggest miss. Pretty sure he was committed to us at one point. Would have been a huge addition to offense and special teams.

“In short order, Jones began to waver on his pledge, and his recruitment devolved into a battle of sources between Ole Miss and Mississippi State beat writers, including one in particular who gloats when he’s right and attempts to alter history when he’s wrong.”

You mean Yancy?

Pretty much applies to anything Ben Garrett says or writes.

It’s not fair, Dan!!!! You’re not being fair!

Didn’t frank gore go to bed committed to Ole miss and wake up and sign with Miami? It would have been Eli and him if I remember correctly. That seems like a pretty big one to me, especially considering how close you came to winning the SEC Eli’s senior year.

Yeah. If you believe Yancy, Jones committed to Ole Miss and reneged after State boosters got back to him, but Ole Miss is really where he wanted to be. If you believe everybody else (and by everybody else that means Chris Jones, his mother, and his high school coaches), Jones never seriously considered Ole Miss and was having a little fun (or maybe a lot of fun) with it.

We took care of this fast, though, so I don't know that I call him a miss or even a mis-step. He left the cupboard pretty stocked, and he also began the change to a passing offense so it won't be such a huge change for Mike Leach. Plus we did go to two bowl games and won two egg bowls.

I would say Jimbo Fisher is the biggest coaching miss although I'm not so sure he's as good as he's made out to be.

would be even crazier if Frank Gore makes it another 4 years in the league and his son makes it to the league. that would be a miracle for Frank Gore to remain in the NFL that long as a running back. it's miracle he is still there already.

Can you imagine a defensive line that had Raekwon Davis, Jeff Simmons, and Montez Sweat on it? *shudder*

I don't think they ever had a real shot at any of those. Manning would be the only one they might have.

Reads like a political hit piece, we're pretty crafty for a bunch of book farmers...

due, in part, to some in his inner circle shielding him from college scouts as cover for Mississippi State

Keyshawn Johnson. I think we were in with him at some point. So we would have had him and Moulds together in 94-95. That would have been fun to watch.

Ok. I'm arguably confused. Who is the greatest Ole Miss player of all time?

"Arguably the greatest quarterback in Ole Miss history, Manning served as Gore’s player host for the latter’s official visit in 2000."

"Peyton Manning is the eldest son of Archie, arguably the greatest player in Ole Miss history, whose No. 18 is one of only two numbers retired by the school and acts as the speed limit on campus."

Keyshawn Johnson signed with us the same year Moulds did, but he wasn't eligible so had to go JUCO.

This guy says Chris Jones was 80% Ole Miss the night before signing day, but then changed his mind the next morning. Not sure if he's a credible source though.

He had to say that so everyone throwing hookers and cash at him in Oxford could feel better about their investments.

Another humble salt-of-the-earth grinder who passed on buckets of cash to sign for free with MSU. Kudos on landing him the right way.

Nah, I always liked Chris Jones, and his recruitment with the whole "Is he in Oxford?" drama was some great entertainment that dragged on for a long time, if I remember right. Would have loved to have him but I think it worked out pretty well for him. You win $ome, you lose $ome.

I met Keyshawn @ the bar in the lobby of the Team Hotel a couple of days prior to the 2015 Belk Bowl. He still has some business interests in Charlotte. We were sitting at the bar wearing MSU gear. It took me a minute to recognize him, but talked with us for 15-20 minutes over a couple of drinks. He had kind things to say about being recruited by MSU & his official visit.

How does CJ Johnson even get in that conversation?? I get the should've gone thing. But, other than the level of hate we have for him (he and AJ would run a tight race for 1st place but AJ likes our baseball stadium--ha!) he was honestly no better than average at Missy.

Rumor has always been that he was a double secret commit to Ole Miss long enough to get some of One Call's cash.
