Well for some reason this program continuously hires coaches that have zero interest in running the ball. And these said coaches find themselves dumb founded by the effect their pass happy offenses have on defense and special teams.
Bill O'Brien was the RB coach at Georgia Tech for several years and then Maryland. He was also the OC and play caller for the Patriots before taking the Penn State job. That first year after devastating sanctions he won 8 games, was the Big 10 coach of the year and the Paul Bear Bryant national coach of the year. Yeah he would have been awful for NU.
This program has been bad with regards to just about every metric. Some of it has become beyond explanation.
The only thing that would be the common denominator for me, is a weak offensive line year in and year out.
If I were to try to resurrect this program it would be in this order.
1. Build a killer defense. Whatever it takes start there.
2. Recruit the hell out of the OL position. Again whatever it takes.
Everything else falls into place if those two things are premier.

Don’t think he would have been a long term answer but his hard edge coaching style is what we need now.
Nebraska won't ever be back until it becomes a run heavy team again.
Shocking, I know, but I'd wager most everyone inherently already knows this.
We aren't ever going to have a rich talent pool to build an upper tier passing offense around, not consistently.
We can teach kids how to block and we can get elite rb talent in the program again, it just is going to take someone to commit to this, instead of giving everyone a bunch of lip service.
