So sallee was the only writer to get a one on one with Hugh at media days. He must be in the circle of trust.

Is it not

obvious. Sallee is the "national" version of yancy (prob giving him too much credit).

I agree and there was a day when prominent members of this board supported

that guy. He was never our friend.

Does anyone else not believe the "beating Saban twice" reason for not firing Freeze? I've seen it several places. I have no idea why they continue to stand behind him but I just don't believe this is the reason.

Good recap, but...

"When this nasty business about extra benefits hit the fan, the school's self-imposed bowl ban and docking a few scholarships seemed to strike the right note."

When they imposed the bowl band and a few scholarships most of the extra benefits hadn't been alleged yet. That was mainly in response to the ACT stuff right?

I could never understand that either.. in fact, it helped me see that some of our own are either a) just as dumb or blind as we claim some of umiss folks to be or b) willing to look past certain things for money. I choose to think it was b.

It's both the five star recruiting and the Bama wins, plus he beat MSU soundly a few times. That's what's kept him there.

Of course not. But I'd have a hard time being friends with someone who is an active and knowing participant in the UM propaganda campaign. Which he has been for years.

My takeaway from this article:

I don't intend to look it up, but it seems like it was only recently that the national media guys were still repeating the myth of "Freeze is not named in any allegations".

Freeze is mentioned in several allegations of major violations. The nine journalists all wrote essentially the same thing: The initial notice of allegations was mostly on Nutt.

I got on his *** on here about the Mullen hot seat comment years ago and he came here to battle me. I kept calling him a second-rate Bleacher Report fanboy. How that son-of-a-***** keeps getting better jobs after being let go from his former ones are beyond me. That 17'er has a 5* hate for Megan and Dan from when he was lil ***** Worked for ITAT

Everyone has seen Sallee carry the UM water. It's undeniable at this point.... but don't forget that Sallee also spent a good 2 or 3 years perpetuating a ******** lie about Mullen being on the hot seat too, when no one in our camp was even remotely considering him to be replaced.

He didn't just carry UMs water. He tried to start a fire at MSU, too.

Didnt he also participate in the "Mullen to X" ******** too? Where OM guys would start BS rumors about Mullen interviewing places to hurt our recruiting....

Yea, 17 Sallee.

Ben is required to work for the Ole Miss Spirit. That's a hell of a contract.

When Ben goes and works for a non-OM publication, then we can talk. Until then, he doesn't have a choice. He will suck it, swallow it, and regurgitate it until Chuck and Yancy are satisfied.

Well, I guess I'll just be friends with the people I choose to be friends with, and go on not worrying about the opinions of people I've never met.

Do you not cringe when you hear some of the completely and purposely false information spewed from those guys? Ben might be a great guy for all I know, but he is also a complicit liar.

I just laugh.

Fair enough. I'd have a hard time enjoying the company of someone who helps misinform the public, in particular high school kids.

Its one thing if it's like Asschoff, who is getting fed lies and reporting it. There ain't much Asschoff can do there other than try and press OM some.... but the Spirit crew admittedly makes **** up out of thin air.

I do have friends in the other party. But none of them make stuff up to believe in. They believe in something or an ideaology that I don't believe in and I'm completely ok with that.

I cannot stand, however, when both sides of the aisle mislead the public.

For the record, because this is somewhat relevant... an OM couple spent the evening at my house tonight. It ain't about OM here, it's about being a pathological liar for profit.

He was the one who convinced everyone Megan Mullen was feeding info to Joe Shad on the sCam kNewton investigation at auburn. He assumed this because both Joe and Megan worked at The Golf Channel at the same time. He is a insufferable **** of a human being. But I don't know him personally. He could be a great guy. But I doubt he is.

Ok then. Regardless, I don't really care.
Not surprising to see you say you "don't really care" once he cuts to the chase and tells you what this is really about (after you spent nearly an hour arguing about something you don't care about, right?). Typical strategy once you start losing a grip on the argument at hand.

This part here:

It ain't about OM here, it's about being a pathological liar for profit.
.....is about your character, whether you're in the media, affiliated with Ole Miss, or anything else. I expect sunshine pumping from writers employed by an entity affiliated by a school, got no problem with that (take note, I wish more MSU guys would do it instead of running us down constantly). But Ole Miss has crossed the line. You know this, though. See above.

It's just hard to find good journalism these days. Everyone's identity is tied to their school. Sallee is an Auburn homer, and owns the douchiness that comes with it. And for some reason, Auburn and Ole Miss seem to have formed a little alliance, especially when it comes to MSU. I pretty much hate them both equally.

I like listening to Godfrey and Bill Connelly, but their homerism shines through too. It's all emotional when it comes to your own.

At the end of the day, though, our problem at MSU really isn't other writers. It's our own.

The religious aspect has probably the most pull, in my opinion.

It's both the five star recruiting and the Bama wins, plus he beat MSU soundly a few times. That's what's kept him there.

He's much more than "just a good football coach" to a lot of their fans. He's taking the "good fight" to their "enemies and haters" and is fighting to bring OM back to their "rightful place" in the SEC and in the state. They want MSU to be irrelevant SO BAD because that is supposed to be OMs spot... all with an "aw shucks" country evangelical flare. Freeze plays all those chords a lot with their fans and, believe me, it works.

It goes beyond just stubborn fandom... it is a tribal connection their fans have with him.

Also add to that... very little State and local media want to hold him accountable for anything. That is the reinforcement. Steve is an enemy to them... not just an opposing fan bases writer telling the truth... he's a threat to their tribe. Right or wrong, he will be viciously attacked from fans to media. Until someone in authority tries to bring all this back to reality, they'll always believe it was a witch hunt to get rid of freeze because he was "better than everyone else." Mark my words.

I'm surprised Paul Finbaum's name hasn't come up. He's carried enough water for OM to fill Barnett reservoir. Wasn't he their commencement speaker or something? He sure fits the pattern. Wouldn't be surprised if he's getting some kind of compensation, direct or indirect.
