I believe it was tight end Allen that said in an interview that during the bye week 1st team O vs 1st team D was a multi time a day thing...... No reporters inside, but who do we think was winning the majority of the plays? With the injuries on offense, hopefully the D was winning. But 'working on the running game' comments would leave one to believe it was the O that saw some wins.

Our team isn't a top 25 team this year, so does Good on Good tell the coaches a whole lot? I know it is all one side has to practice against as far as proving themselves, and the teammates that kinda know their plays, tendencies, and habits....... but its got to be better than going against the scout team doesn't it? If the black shirts play like black shirts then maybe we can say that that was the difference.... If the offense plays better than it has all season and it has found two or three packages and a dozen plays that move the ball down the field, maybe 1s v 1s was the difference.

What would the results have been last year at the beginning of the season, versus the end of the season as far as 1s vs 1s during a bye week (which we didn't have in either scenario).

I really hope we see an improved team on Saturday..... I want to SEE improvement, and not just drink koolaid and be disappointed once again. GBR!

Back in the olden days I believe we used to say the hardest game we played all week was Tuesday and Wednesday practices... hopefully we get back their some day

I thought we were doing this already. I was surprised when I saw that too. You don't get better if you don't practice against the best. But might explain why it looked good in practice and garbage on gameday.

I took it to mean that they've been going kinda 3/4 speed against scout teamers in practices and things were getting sloppy so they had to take them back to doing some real hitting and competing in practice.

I always think of that with Callahan, the practice I saw USC week they did zero actual hitting. IIRC that was pretty common that they did pro-style practice where there was rarely any tackling to the ground. They got their asses handed to them that week. After a few years they looked like a team that couldn't hit or tackle on defense.

The OL and LBs against Minnesota really looked like they've been allowed to get away with just going through the motions and getting a lot of softness into their muscle memory.

The whole season has a feel of "We thought we'd be able to focus on play design and using offensive creativity to beat teams by now, but instead we've had to go back to teaching guys how to block and tackle like they mean it so that play design can matter."
