I don't think either fan base is extremely excited about the game. I know I thought long and hard about not making the drive this morning.
It is what it is. Both Iowa and Nebraska have small populations, and every FBS school now recruits regionally, if not nationally. Both Iowa and Nebraska will have breakout seasons. This season isn't the season for either team.
As an Iowa fan I look at the number of freshmen getting meaningful snaps, And then I look at Wisconsin and Michigan State and try to not get angry. They are young as well, and don't seem to have the same issues.
As Nebraska fans I would assume anyone could see making a hire to attempt to recruit California was doomed.
Ah well. The weather is supposed to be fairly decent. Once every two years I have a Big Red Dog. The athletes on the field want to won. It's a college football game.
If you asked me to make a bet on today's game, I wouldn't know what to do. For whatever reason Iowa has played better in warmer weather. It was relatively warm for tOSU. Every single game IOwa has lost came complete with more dropped passes then I have seen in a long time. We have a freshmen starting offensive tackle. Actually two of them. Purdue and Wisconsin both figured out to run right over one of them. Then they both figured out to throw at our right cornerback. We went through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd string right corner last week. It is beyond me why Urban Meyer couldn't have figured this out.
If Nebraska does exactly as described above, they will win this going away.
If I was a Nebraska fan my largest frustration would be lack of a bowl game. Not that a bowl game is a huge deal as a game, but when you make your coaching switch, if it was done immediately after today;s game, and the new coach could be brought in immediately, the December practices would be extremely beneficial to your team going forward.
Just some random thoughts.
