I'm seeing all kinds of disrespect because the Buckeyes only beat the Cats by 12. But that has a lot to do with the stupid it's just Northwestern BS. Represent well in the CFP.
I think style points were out of the question by mid 3rd quarter. If they weren’t blowing us out (they weren’t even leading at that point) I think most voters or committee members were following along and saw that OSU was clearly not head and shoulders above us today. Another TD at the end would’ve just made Day look a little silly considering how the rest of the game went.
It’s not as if the committee just looks at the final score. I mean, the committee has literally one job this week, you would think they’d all be monitoring these championship games pretty closely and not just looking at a final score.
I think the "style points" argument for running up the score is kind of ridiculous at this point. It's stupid to think the committee doesn't watch the games. It's not like the 1980s anymore .... literally everything is on TV now, and there's nothing to gain by running up the score.
They ran it to get their guy the all-time school record and I don't have a problem with that. Once that happened, there's no need to risk someone getting hurt to score a TD that would probably make them look bad in doing so. Fitz certainly wasn't stopping the clock. Game was over. These players have been through a lot this year, no need to prolong it to satisfy egos.

Looked like Fitz and Day were talking about it at the handshake. Day explaining that they wanted to get Sermon the record, Fitz saying no offense taken.
Well, I think we did beat them in 2004, MR, although it has been a long time. I think it went back to 1971 before that, one of the last years before the Dark Ages and the Rose Bowl story you guys brought about.
One of the biggest problems with dealing with the Ohio States of the world is that they always seem to have studs at your old position, DT, which isn't an easy one to recruit. I don't think it helped today that we had Kent and other guys out at that position. Teams like OSU can wear you down without a rotation on the line, and they do have some horses on the o-line this year.
I hope Anderson can get our o-line up to speed the next couple of years. The Cats have some good young players on defense, but replacing the three LBs will be tough next year. Also need more speed on offense, but easier said than done. I do like what the new OC is doing, although I thought he fell in love with the wildcat formation a little too much today.
You Cat fans shouls all be very proud of your men, players and coaches. They played with great heart today. I very much admire Coach Fitz. Congrats on your division title and a great season.

I agree and was glad OSU didn't go for it on the last play. The Playoff Committee either thinks OSU is playoff worthy or not and a garbage TD at the end wouldn't change anything. If anything, it would just show that the OSU coaches don't think that they've done enough to earn the spot either.
That Sermon guy is an absolute beast. He’s got NFL stamped all over him. Better runner than Master Teague.
Yeah, that would be nice. And I'm a lot older than you, so there is some urgency here.
But on the other hand you guys got NU to the Rose Bowl, which I never thought I'd see, and the Cubs have won a World Series, which they never did during my parents' 90-year lifetimes, so there's always hope.

One of the very first things that Urban did when he was hired at OSU was start recruiting quality DTs hard. If you look at the top 3 or 4 teams every year. that's the real separation - quality DTs and depth - a ton of depth. You saw the depth on full display today with over 20 something players out for the 2nd game in a row .
I've seen this act many times with OSU over the last 20 years. Opposing teams come out with excellent game plans but by the 4th their depth has taken its toll. But kudos to Fitz. That guy just keeps amazing me with the way he always has his teams ready to play. He does more with less better than any coach in the country - and that's a compliment to him, not a shot at NU. Don't ever lose that guy to another school
Teague is a straight ahead guy. I think actually better straight line speed than Sermon, but Sermon is better juking. Neither are particularly great going outside but can hurt a team running inside. Teague was coming off of a torn Achilles and Sermon ACL surgery, so both were struggling at the beginning of the season, more lack of confidence in their healed legs, but some of it could have been physical recovery too.
The resurgence of Sermon against MSU and NU gives me more hope in the playoffs even as Fields is struggling. If Fields can get back on track accompanied by a run game, gives a better chance than when Fields alone was lighting it up and no running game.
I hope OSU scores 40+ in each playoff game, if only to quell the backhanded slap against the idea that the Buckeyes
