Money wise it won’t be the same but if the playoffs expand, which I think they will eventually, it could be an opportunity for some B12 teams to increase recognition and status. I think they probably would keep an autobid in a 12 team playoff. So while they might not have a seat at the money table they might have a seat at the playoff table and if a team can perform well enough in the B12 to get in the playoffs somewhat regularly it could raise its status.

The Cincinnati head coach was a former coordinator for Ohio State and clearly primed for a top head coaching position at a elite football school.

Folks around here would say the USC coach needs to be a California guy. If UCLA wasn’t such a rival, its hoops coach could give Luke a sales pitch.

The b12 will prolong its life for another couple years with the additions.. and clearly the conference doesn’t stack up financially vs the power 4, but comeon… no way are they going to be making AAC money. That’s absurd.

I’m happy for them for beating ND but I don’t think they “deserved better” than the AAC. They are a metro public school with no fan base and crappy facilities. They are exactly where they should be.

Uh what TV draw do they have?

Cincy-Tulsa (CCG): 1.88 million viewers
even Oklahoma-Ia St(CCG): 2.99 million viewers
vs
Ohio St-Northwestern(CCG): 8.03 million viewers, which was down 40% from OSU-WISC the year before.

I’m not arguing that they will be making the same or better than what they have pre realignment… let alone when compared to the other p4 conference. They certainly will be making less… but AAC money?

here is the breakdown per school currently:
1. Big Ten: $54.3 million
2. SEC: $45.5 million
3. Big 12: ~$38 million
4. Pac-12: $33.6 million
5. ACC: ~$33 million
6. AAC: ~$7 million

AAC will take a hit to that 7m in the same way the B12 will to their 40m. I think the B12 when all is settled will distribute 10-15m per team.

At least 60% of that Big 12 money is from Texas and Oklahoma, if not more. I expect both the Big 12 and AAC to be about equal with the Big 12 slightly ahead.

Besides the SEC & Big 10, I expect rates next round of rights negotiation to actually go down because the cable tv model is pretty much obsolete. Gone are the days of everyone with cable tv subsidizing college sports.

Especially for smaller conference, it will probably be more of a weekly PPV or monthly subscription to the conference you want.

SEC and Big 10 still have the numbers to get big deals for now.

I don't care about anything other than they beat the Frenchies. Should they profit from their impending conference change then god bless them. But god bless them even more for for frying the Frenchies.

For what seems like forever, my two favorite teams have been Rutgers and whoever is playing those faux Irish from south Bend. Go Bearcats!

Cincy is really good now but they’re not an elite program, and will definitely take a step back when Fickle leaves after this year

iirc, the ACC moves to add Fla State and later Miami, etc were at least partially spurred on by the so-called Syracuse rule.. or Big East rule re: the BCS. That is, if the conference champ is not ranked 15 (or was it 12?) or better for X years in a row the conference could lose its autobid.

It was put into place because Syracuse was once champ and ranked mid-teens and stunk up the joint in the BCS bowl game and didn't bring fans or TV ratings. But, interestingly.. the ACC was put in jeopardy of this front several times and was "saved" by adding a team that could satisfy the requirement via grandfathered-in rankings from prior years.

So the reason I mention this is because, perhaps, similar contingencies are in place for the Playoffs (which are a product of the BCS bowls, after all). And the Big XII could certainly be thinking along those lines adding several teams that have been ranked high in recent years.

That's the case for nearly every program. Always one bad hire away from taking a step back (or worse). Cincinnati has done better than most with hires.

It's possible but I tend to think we'll end up seeing something largely similar to what was already released with some changes around the fringes maybe. If it's 12 teams then top 6 conf champs which encompass the B12 almost every year and that's how they will get in and then the G5 which would likely be the MWC/AAC or occasionally maybe some other smaller conference. The B12 will take a hit moneywise not from just from their tv deals but maybe their slice of the playoff money pie gets reduced as well. However, access wise I think they will be likely covered. One of the points of expansion is to increase access so I think they should be fine in that regard.

Roughly the same distance to travel from Cincy to South Bend as New Brunswick to Syracuse or Landover. Ever seen 30% of the crowd at those venues Rutgers fans? The Cincy fanbase is more local, but way better than the tut-tut attitude shown here.

They never slid as low as RU did in the late 90s and the Ash era. And they've hit on 4 or 5 straight excellent coaches in a row. Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones, Tommy Tuberville and Luke Fickle. They all get big money offers from Power 5 schools and then leave. Further, setting the last 2 years aside, both the administration and the community have been more supportive than RU.

The only former BE programs that hold any affinity for me are VT (Beamer Ball), WVU (they called out the BE on its BS, which led to us going to the B1G), and USF (Tampa ties).

I don't hate Cincinnati, but I'm also not rooting for its success, especially as recruiting becomes more national than regional.

In their case, it's all about choosing the right coach. RU made wrong choices in coaches post Burns and post Schiano. If you're not an elite program, you can't afford to miss on coaches.
