Good lord, that dude named about 37 potential names! Leonhard would be a dream hire, and Walters would be good too. He hates Nebraska but that's fine with me, just win baby.

He's a really good sports writer. I followed him for years on HM until he got tired of lack wits taking shots at him.

Glad that never happens on this board.

I like all the names in that article. I'd list Will Muschamp as a homerun hire, along with Leonhard.

I just really hope that Rhule gets an accomplished DC and not someone new in the position.

A key assumption in the article is that Dannen and Rhule tried to retain White, which is counter to info Tuco posted.

I have no interest in Walters. But agree 100% on Leonhard.

Also can't believe he listed like 100 guys and no Zach Arnett. Great defensive coach, who runs the 3-3-5, assuming Rhule still wants to run that.

Does he bring in Snow as the Sr. Defensive Analyst and hires Robinson as the DC?

It was like Tinder for coaching hires!

Leonard would be great because clearly we already can't figure out he has an "H" in his last name. That alone makes him a great hire.

Anyone from UGA is a homerun hire as well.

I also like the DC from Army.

Unfortunately I believe people might be disappointed if they want an outside hire. Butler has the inside track. Hope I’m wrong.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd be shocked if Rhule isn't talking to other people.

one not on his list who will get a job soon is scotty hazelton. he got caught up in the michigan state mess under mel tucker. but he's solid. did a great job here before sparty doubled his salary and he left.

You get that first big paycheck with the big red N on it and time to let bygones be bygones.

The thing about Walters, and I'm not pumping him up, but the way he flamed out as Head Coach could mean he would be a DC for quite a while cause a new HC job isn't coming anytime soon.

Whereas Leonard comes in, does a great job and we would want that, next thing you know he's taking a HC gig at some school.

Yes, but if he hates this school that could be hard to overcome.

IMO you're looking at this wrong. I want Rhule to hire the best DC he can find. If the guy only sticks around for a year or two, then so be it. I want Nebraska to have a staff so good that other schools want to hire them away.

I'll still take Leonhard! That would be a killer hire.

With the portal starting to hit NU, it will take a helluva DC to get this thing right.
We may as well pony up the money and get the best it can buy.
We should always have the best money can buy. I'm pretty positive when Rhule came here, that wasn't the case. Definitely over that ****** ****. Look what Saban did.

Hire the best and make it hard to leave. Repeat when needed. Saban didn't seem to mind hiring new coaches all the time.

Many of the very best assistants out there are former HC's that got the axe, but still bring that outstanding position/coordinator skill with them.

My list would have Golden and Muschamp on it, and Malloe from UCLA
DJ Durkin if you can get him

You don't mind new coaches when you have stallions in the corrals. We have rented mules and broken down nags in comparison.

Seriously. 🤣
I'm going to start a thread with my own 37 choices for DC and if one of them is chosen I'll remind all of you how good my inside sources are.

I can see it now. Posters from other message boards will flock here to to get my input on everything Husker. Game score predictions... bowl destinations... player commits...

Whoever we snag for DC, I hope they (collectively) have a solid plan for attracting some defensive talent to come in and make a difference.
On both sides of the ball, we need as much competition as possible.

At this point it’s hard to say. If Rhule lands a big time DC I’d probably think it was in the works and White was encouraged to find a place to make it seem he left on his own terms. If we flop on the new DC I’d say White left Rhule a sitting duck. Time will tell but I’m sure we’ll find out very soon.

Rhule is a defensive coach. He has a backup plan in Butler and he could likely dictate what he wants done. We'll see. I expect there to be some type of announcement after signing day.

We have no way of knowing how that would work out. Might be great. Might be terrible but next year that could be the case no matter who we hire. New DC. New scheme.
In other words, probably a gamble. More so than a proven, successful DC at this level.
