The Gold Standard is in need of a good polishing. It is getting a little tarnished. But it is gold and the good thing about gold is it can be sent through the fire and restored.
Wish he would develop some actual plays for our guys instead of spending his time making up WWE type catchphrases.

I'm okay with not getting recruits ranked in the top 5 or even the top 10, so long as we get plenty of guys in the top 15-35 range. What I have a problem with is so many of those top 15-35 guys coming to UK and trying to go pro after one year when they clearly aren't ready. Those elite top 5 guys I can understand. But these kids aren't elite and yet they still leave us early. Those same prospects at other schools stay 2 or 3 years. That is the problem. If we can't get the very cream of the crop anymore (and it appears that we can't), then Cal needs to change his philosophy and stop selling this NBA **** so heavily. If we can't get the top 10 kids anymore, then we damn well have to hang on to most of the top 25 type kids we do sign in order to strike the right balance of talent/experience to compete. We can't compete having to start a whole class like the previous one we signed every year. We just can't.
This won't last for long. I have faith the ship will be righted and order will be restored in the universe.

You guys know that Coach K release a book titled, The Gold Standard. This was right around the time Cal was introduce as UK's headcoach (April 1, 2009) and used this phrase.
I can't recall exactly but K's book was released or published on April 6, 2009.
I wonder who coined the phrase first, but it would be awesome if Cal was taking shots 1st day on the job.

IMO, the problem is not that Cal is missing on top 5, OAD players---- it's that his non-OAD caliber players are still making the jump. I would much prefer recruits in that 20-40 range who stay for a couple years. I think it makes you a good team in year one, great in year two and potentially fantastic beyond.
But all that goes out the window when they leave after a season.

I think he’s just honest with them and the fact is college ball is a farce. I can think of one example in Cauley Stein where staying may have been better then going on to make the immediate money. If you want to get paid to play, college is simply the worst place to do that.

Some of you fans need to go back to The Tubby last 4-5 years and Gillepsie's last 2 years and then you would stop all of this nonsense talk about Coach Cal Recruiting. Coach Cal in his 8 years has delivered over 40 five-star players. That is why in 8 years we have went to Six Elite 8's and Four Final Fours and a National Championship and Runner-up! Coach Cal has also won 5 SEC Championships and 5 SEC Tournament Championships in his 8 years. He is the perfect fit for Kentucky basketball and there are not to many coaches out there that would come to Kentucky and have to put up with what our head coach puts up every year. Before hiring Coach Calipari there was not many big names that were interested in Kentucky basketball head coach. When we hired Coach Billy Gillepsie there was many big name coaches that said no for coming to Kentucky as there Head Coach. That is why most of the experts and most fans knew that Coach Cal was the perfect fit for Kentucky basketball and he has done great job in 8 years in both Recruiting and Coaching.

This season isn't over. He could still develop a EE FF type team, these guys have talent they just need to clean up turnovers and bad shot selection and not sharing the ball
I believe Cal will make the necessary adjustments to his staff and his own personal recruiting style in order to overtake Duke. I hope it’s sooner rather than later. And I hope we don’t have another mass exodus this June or next year is going to be very ugly.
Nothing against Cal or Tubby or BCG or any of these guys. I have only one interest. University of Kentucky. I love Cal, prayed the year we won the 98 Championship that Barney would fire Tubby and hire Cal. I thought Tubby was lazy. He proved me correct. BCG I don't have to explain, that's all on Barney let him explain it. My one statement about this team and any UK team is are you winning a championship for Kentucky? Everything else is white noise. I especially loved the 15 team though. Still see Booker and Ulis sitting on the bench while the Twins played the last 5 mins of the game. Especially the part we had 3-35 second shot clock violations in the last 5 mins. That game hurt me but it has hurt UK more. We have never really gotten over it nor has our recruiting. I will only add one other thing. Coach K even at this age changed. Cal needs to do the same. Remember its only about the trophies.
